UPDATED: IT'S HAPPENING!! Star Wars, Toy Story officially coming to DHS! Plus new Soarin'!

Unless I'm forgetting something, the first phase of WWOHP has one new attraction (Forbidden Journey). The other 2 rides in that area were already there. They just renamed and re themed them.
They are still attractions available to enjoy just like Star Tours. This is our measuring stick at every park, not how old the attractions are. Plus many consider Ollivanders an attraction but of course YMMV on that one.

Something like Tory Story land is necessary in DHS. The lack of attractions for the sub-5 year old crowd is nothing short of appalling.

At DCA, I kind of chuckled at the lame, little rides of the Bugs Life area...but I would have loved that sooooo much @dhs 15 years ago.

For some reason, I always thought Cars Land should stay in California with the real Route 66. (And, yes, RSR is AMAZING!)

So, I think Toy Story land is necessary, and also a bit of a yawn.
Cars Land was the reason we made the 3-day drive out to California, vs our normal 2-day drive to WDW. I don't see Toy Story land being the same attendance driver, but I do think it will greatly increase guest satisfaction among younger families.

Yup I feel like Disney is breaking these into separate age groups. Star Wars will lean more towards the adults, TSM Land for little kids, and AvatarLand somewhere in between.

Agreed, and a lot of folks to please with different opinions/needs. Its sounding like a nice mix IMO. Also read somewhere they may be leaving further expansion for future announcements.

I'm kind of dumbfounded with the criticism some people have for the Star Wars expansion. I don't like Star Wars at all and didn't see any of the movies until my late teens when my now husband forced me to watch them. That being said, I am very excited for the expansion. I DO consider Star Wars to be Disney, as Star Tours has been around for over 20 years. It's not a jarring addition to the parks...I also consider Star Wars to be a sound and permanent cultural institution. I say that in comparison to Avatar. I am still in shock Avatarland is actually happening. The movie was a flash in the pan. I don't see collectibles anywhere. I don't see people dressing up as Naavi for Halloween. I don't see T-shirts or toys etc etc etc. You can say the exact opposite about Star Wars. It's just everywhere. I can't think of a time in my entire 32 years of life when Star Wars WASN'T popular. To me the expansion makes sense.

I'm also excited about the potential experiences this can provide for little boys. I think the Bibbidi Bobbiti Boutique is so cute, and I'm sorry but the pirate face-painting experience is not the same. If they create something analogous to BBB where you pick out jedi robes and then build your light saber and finish off at the Jedi Training Academy, that'll be so cute! (and yes, I know there are lots of little girls who will like it as well).

My only potential gripe is that if it's all Universal-esque motion simulators, that will be VERY disappointing. I think those rides are cheap cop-out garbage.

It's a space saver. I wouldn't be surprised if Disney uses some of that like they already have in Star Tours.

I agree......may as well not build it if it going to just be simulators. I am not a big fan of UNI because they use so much of those things! But we have to wait and see.

AKK

Yea kinda agree. Even the HP rides as awesome as they are are a bit to close "in your face" types to us. Kinda like the "G" robo attraction posted-super cool but wouldn't want the whole ride that way. Not complaining just some open cavernous areas and faster longer smoother movement would be nice-kinda like Tron appears to be.

Would love a "Tron" type Star Wars attraction with maybe the speeders or something.

All that said-the Soarin type Banshee thing probably appeals to a large audience over all, and the boat ride even.

We actually put more stock in the "environment" created. Even 7DMT has become more a fave for our group. HP area is amazing, Star Wars and Pandora seem to be as well, as does D Springs.

And weather as well. Keeping thins inside in FL can keep things moving better-and in more comfort.

Be curious how often Slink goes down just because of this. Bout the same as 7DMT I guess.

I will say when the FL weather is nice (which is most of the time) the outdoor attractions are even more amazing though.

I don't particularly think that each park needs to be all things to all people. I think Magic and AK are very geared towards kids but still having enough attractions for older folks. Epcot is certainly for adults, especially in the evenings. DHS is geared more towards teens than anything and I really don't see anything wrong with that.

I think the whole concept and idea of Avatar completely fits into what Animal Kingdom is all about. It's just fantasy based. If you've seen the movie then you know what I mean. It's all about protecting nature.

I think it is a great addition to the park and adds the fantasy element that is so prevelant with Disney as well.

Avatar is also the highest grossing movie of all time and there at 3 more movies on the way possibly 4 so Avatar is very much here to stay and I disagree with it being a "flash in the pan".

Love the announcements! But I'm disappointed in the lack of a timetable across the board.

Star Wars Land is super exciting! I participated in the Disney College Program and worked at the original Star Tours, so I'm a fan. One concern I do have is how they are going to make it appeal to a wider audience. I know Star Wars is immensely popular; I know Star Wars Weekends are a hit. However, Star Tours the ride hardly ever has a long wait time. Granted, this could be in large part because it is a simulator, a type of ride that does not appeal to all and does have height and health limitations. And it is located in the back of the park. I just hope whatever they create can bridge the gap for those who may not be Star Wars fans. Star Tours the ride really was, and still is, a great attraction, and I wish it received more love. It'll be interesting how they do bridge this gap--making the attractions more accessible, but still keeping the intensity... because, let's face it, Star Wars is an intense saga. It's about on-going war in the galaxy, ya know. ;)

Additionally, while it may not be realistic, I wish Disney would invest in more rides and shows whenever they are implementing these new lands. It appears there will only be 2 (or is it 3?) new attractions in SWL. Adding shops and dining experiences generates profit for them; and both shopping and dining are needed elements in any new area, but I have a hard time counting these items as new "experiences" unless they are going to offer something truly unique in those shopping and dining settings aside from a special cupcake or a waffle in the shape of Darth Vader's head. Ha!

Also, as far as Toy Story Land, I would have liked an expansion of Pixar period. I love Toy Story, but so many other Pixar films could be represented too--Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo, Up, Cars, Incredibles, Wall-E, A Bug's Life, and any future films. However, I know for full immersion they had to select one and Toy Story does have the largest fanbase of any Pixar film and the staying power, especially with Toy Story 4 in the works. So I can't argue with this decision. I am actually glad they aren't bringing Cars Land to DHS. Not that it wouldn't have been great; I personally just like to have different things to experience between the Florida and California parks.

In both cases I seem to be just thinking (or dreaming) bigger when perhaps something that large and expansive it's fiscally possible.

I'm looking forward to Avatar Land. Animal Kingdom is oddly my favorite park. However, I'm in agreement with almost everyone else that it is indeed currently a half-day experience, so I'm anxiously anticipating the new offerings coming to this park of "the World."

Here's roughly 14 acres.

This really puts Muppets in more jeopardy than I thought...
Wasn't there some talk of expanding over south studio dr?

I'm a bit disappointed tho that there will be a cantina, it won't be THE Mos Isley cantina :D (even though it will probably have the same band, aliens, etc).

The more I think about it, having it be Tatooine would have actually been kinda cool.
It has he spaceport....home of Luke...etc
