Day 4 - Tuesday 9/9 Cont.
After leaving MGM triumphant - and slightly dizzy - we ventured out for lunch. Since we rented a car this time, I thought we's go somewhere fun for our "counter-service" lunch. Hmmmm . . . Where would DISer MeMom go?
The Polynesian . . .
No.
All Stars Music . . .
No.
The Caribbean Resort . . .
No.
Hmmmm . . . . I've Got IT!
POP CENTURY!!!!
So we were off to MeMom's favorite place, her home away from home
(Sorry DISers, I was tired so I don't have alot of pics. Check out MeMom's reports for some excellent pics). Upon entering Pop's parking lot, I was excited. This place ooozes fun, and nostalgia!
The lobby had display boxes for each decade.
It was really fun seeing the ones from my childhood - especially the one with Atari and the games. I STILL have mine and about 20 games.
After looking at ALL of the boxes and admiring the decor, we headed to the food court. I didnt realize that it was behind the gift shop. It's really cool how it's set up!
The food court did have alot MORE to pick from than at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, BUT of the choices, the only thing I wanted was a burger. I know, I know, I thought I would get something else too, but that's what I got. The line was short, but it took FOREVER! After we finally got our food, I did remember to get the Tye Dyed Cheesecake. It was really cool, and it turned my tongue dark blue/purple!
I like that the food court had booths. It was nice having a bit of personal space in such a public area. Especially since I was soooo tired and hungry.
After we left Pop, guess what we did? Took a break in the room folks! Yes, this is the best part about staying ON property in a nice room - the breaks!
We were only in the room about 2 hours, because we had dinner reservations at The Wave at 5:30. BUT! Since it wasnt threatening to rain, we left the room a little early to purchase tickets to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party!!!!! (
which is usually referred to here on the DIS as "MNSSHP")
When I tried to purchase the tix at the conceirge desk in the lobby, I was told that I could only get the DVC discount on the tix AT the Magic Kingdom (MK) ticket booth. UGHHHH!
When we got to MK, the guy in the booth told me that there was no DVC discount for the party. I then told him, that there was, and I was directed to come here to receive it, and to please check again. Yes, I said this nicely. Well, he "checked" and BEHOLD, the discount was found. So folks, always have them check. Don't just say "okay" and fork over the bucks!
My Mother and I then went over to the Contemporary Resort (CR). This would be our first time visiting! I was REALLY excited. We ended up getting there about 30mins early. There was no where to sit outside of The Wave, so we sat in the lounge on the floor above. Well, this is the most UNDisney floor in the place, AND there was a conference going on. So sit my Mother and I, in matching t-shirts that I made us 2 years ago, trying to look dignified amongst "the suits".
I put this on the back of mine . . .
When it got close to our reservation time, we went back down to The Wave. The place looked REALLY classy, and I felt under-dressed. But, there was no dress code.
Tonight, we were going to meet up with DISer Earljam and his wife. Also, in a separate reservation was Aubriee, her ex, her Mom, PennConn and his Bf.
I LOVED the decor of this place. Very classy, and soothing tones. The waiting area inside the restaurant had blue ceiling lights, which really set a cool, classy atmosphere!
For dinner, I ordered the Linguini - with Florida littleneck clams and rock shrimp with chunky tomato broth $21.99. It was just ok. It was LOTS of pasta with a tiny bit of clams and shrimp. Not worth the price.
My Mother ordered the Fish - with corn and edamame stew served with cilantro chutney $20.99. I can't remember what kind it was. I'm NOT a big fan of fish, but her's was GREAT! It was seasoned well, and melted in your mouth. The veggies that came with it were delicious. I ended up eating then off her plate.
Earljam had the Braised Lamb Shank - with bulgur wheat-lentil stew and red wine sauce $25.99. Yes, I tasted his food too. The lamb was very tender, and tasted good! Doesn't look like something off of The Flintstones?!
I THINK Earljam's wife got the Seasonal Vegetable Stew- with multigrain rice $17.99. It was plated well, and she said that it was very good.
For dessert, we all shared. My favorites are in
BOLD. We ordered:
Two of: Creamy Indulgence -
cheesecake with raspberry coulis, coconut panna cotta with passion fruit drizzle, chocolate pasion fruit mousse with pecan-olive brittle $7.99
Decadent Flavors - blueberry compote with yogurt gelato,
lemon cornbread with vanilla panna cotta, chocolate mousse with salted caramel sauce $7.99
Crispy and Crunchy - vanilla-braised pineapple spears, almond-pineapple-raisin baklava, zucchini-carrot cake with vanilla panna cotta $7.99
I enjoyed my meal (and the others) at The Wave, and will go back! But now, we were finished, and it was time to go the Halloween Party!
Thanks Earljam and "Mrs. Earljam" for adding us to your reservation! We really enjoyed our time with you!
Next up, the Halloween Party!
"Boo to you, and Trick or Treat!"
