Currently at Bay Lake, and today when we came back from MK, our rooms had been upgraded to the new locks. Instead of entering your key into a slot like every hotel, to gain entry you ho,d your key up to a pad (with a cute Mickey). The light turns green and the door is unlocked. (or red and you are denied entry.) There was a note on our door explaining the switch.

The parks will eventually switch to this system too, avoiding the finger method when entering.

I have pictures of the new lock and the note that I will post when I'm not on the iPad.

Love the new system!! Any questions, just ask!

They had this at beach club villas about 3 weeks ago when we were there. I like it a lot.

One thing though, I don't think the finger scans will go away once this is implemented at the parks. If I recall the tests at Epcot still included the finger reading.

The person at Contemporary check in who informed us at the upcoming changes for BLT described the changes that would be coming to the parks. He said the finger will be eliminated. We'll have to wait and see, but since he was correct about BLT I am assuming his information will be correct.

This is coming to all the WDW resorts soon. As the PP noted, its already in operation at YC/BC/BCV.

I also don't see this doing away with the finger scan devices at the park (although I wish they did) since its no different from running a card through a reader.

We had this at a different hotel recently and I thought it was pretty cool. Nice to see they're implementing it in WDW.

That could be painful... and I need my fingers. It helps to type and stuff (and everyone knows, I need as much help as I can get to type accurately!)

Erm. RFID chips, yay!

The reason I don't think the finger reader will go away is because there would then be no way to confirm identity of the ticket. The reason for going to the RFID at the parks is mainly to speed up admission, asking for id would do the opposite.

Here is a pic of the unit from epcot.

time will indeed tell. Once all the hotels are changed over I don't see it taking long for them to change the turnstiles.

Perhaps for KTTW passes, since I imagine those will be difficult to sell.

Although, they may just have be referring to the magstrip scanner at the park.

I had the hardest time trying to figure out how to get into my room at BC three weeks ago :lmao: It is super easy to use though

Am I the only one who hopes this continues to expand - hopefully to include the shops, dining, ect? It would be awesome not to have to get a new KTTW after I manage to demagnetize it...EVERY SINGLE trip, lol! :D

Oh it will be everything within the next few years. And I would also bet in the next 3 to 5 years KTTW cards will disappear all together.

Behold, the Future

LOVE the arm band idea!! I read they will eventually be customizable! I cant wait!! Wish we could do that for our Oct trip!!

I did not see this! Can someone tell me more about the wristband thingy?

Thanks!

Not loving that they changed out your door lock while your posessions were in the room. Who knows how long the door was open and who might have been in the room. At least with housekeeping they know who's in and out. Are these contractors etc? Just hmmmm... :worried:

Well, what else are they going to do? If they waited until each room was "empty" it would take a long time to get each and every room changed over. If they closed off part of the resort, people would be complaining and they would lose revenue. This is the fastest and easiest way to do it for both the guest and Disney.

And I would bet that anyone working on the room would have also been known to have been there. It's not like they don't keep track of those things.

The people that do it are locksmiths. They could get into a room at any time if they wanted to without any record of it. They didn't work unsupervised.
