We've got 15 nights at BLT and there's no way we'd want that long on the DDP so I called MS today to see if we could split the reservation to add the DDP for 6 days. I made it very clear that what ever happened I didn't want to loose my reservation. The CM I spoke to checked with her supervisor and said it was possible to do without loosing inventory.

I was on the phone for about 45 minutes in total but managed to get the reservation split into 7 nights, 6 nights with the DDP and then 2 nights. I had to speak to the supervisor to give her my CC details and from what she said I'd get one key at check in which would be good for the entire 15 nights, the DDP would kick in on day 8 and any credits would expire at midnight 7 days later.

WHAT!?! I thought they always said this wasn't allowed? Maybe the old system wasn't able to handle that type of split, but the new system can?? I'd love to hear others' experience with this. Is this going to be a normally available option, or just a unique thing for this particularly long stay? Let's hear from other!!

Yes, it is a feature of the new system. There have been multiple threads discussing it over the past month.

I've got a four night stay coming up but we come in late on the first night. I'm going to call tomorrow and see if I can get the DP for 3 nights instead......do you think it's possible?

Yes, that was the point of my post, to let people know that you can split and existing reservation without running the risk of loosing it in the process.

If you can MS and tell them you want to add the DDP to the last 3 nights of your reservation and not the first night, they will be able to split it for you.

I did not know about this, this is a great feature :thumbsup2

Is this something only DVC members can take advantage of? Or will normal reservations through CRO be able to be split now too?

Good question, it would be handy if we could do it through CRO as well

Actually, I was thinking the opposite - I was actually thinking it would be nice if this was something only DVC members were able to do (almost like a perk like being able to book DDP without buying a ticket package).

LOL, I guess it would be nice if it was an exclusive as we don't have too many of those left :goodvibes

Glad you tightened up that "loose" reservation! ;) Sorry, it always strikes me funny when people use loose for lose.

We had heard this was coming, and it looks like it DOES work, just a little slowly at first. That seems to always be the case when a new change is made at Disney though. I think this new change is a good one for DVC members. It gives people the opportunity to make the DDP more cost effective. We likely will still not use it anymore though, because for two of us, it's just more economical to do OOP and TIW.

They already can be. However, CRO reservations that include DDP must be "packages", and all such packages (except for those booked by AP holders) must include tickets. So, if you split a regular cash reservation, the DDP segment(s) must include tickets.

That's good to know that it is a special perk for us DVC members

It may not be too "exclusive."

I would think that AP discounted cash reservations could also do this, too, , since they don't actually buy a package.

They do buy a package, but it is a ticketless package.

Thanks for the update! Good to hear confirmation of this new feature. We might just try the deluxe ddp for the first time, maybe just for 2 days. Hard to eat that much food for an entire week. :goodvibes

I have added the DDP to may stay in July, split stay first part for 3 nights and second part for 8 nights. On the 8 night stay I wonder if I could just get the DDP for 5 of the nights. Can I wait until I arrive for the first part of my stay and ask to change or would it be better to give them a call just now.

I changed my November trip to 3 nights DP instead of 4. The CM admitted this would be her first one. I was on hold about 15 minutes, then she took my number to call me back...but it all worked out.
