My Maytag is 7 years old and won't agitate. It spins fine. I think we're going to take off some panels this weekend and see if it's the transmission or something else. I know it's not the agitator dawgs b/c the agitator piece will only spin one way a little at a time when I move it. It may be too costly to repair.

I really don't won't to buy a new washing machine. I'd rather spend it at WDW. I keep thinking that the new washer costs as much as 3 airline tickets to Orlando!

UPDATE- had a repairman here today b/c I looked at my Maytag book and it said I still had a warranty on the transmission parts. Another repairman had told me it was probably the transmission so I thought I'd take a chance. Turns out it is the timer. The total cost to fix it is $227, so I hope I can use it for a few more years!

You're not going to want to hear this but the same exact thing happened to my 8 yr. old Maytag washer. The transmission was shot and it's way too costly to repair. Definitely had to get a new one. :headache:

We have had ours break twice. It was the same problem both times and DH was able to fix it. Each repair cost us about $10.00 with shipping. I googled the symptoms and it ended up being some little plastic thingys were broken, so don't give up yet. We almost did!

Oooowwww, don't get me started on washing machines. I have a Whirlpool HE machine we bought one year ago. It's the worse piece of machinery made. We've had the repairman out 4 times in the first year for issues. We decided when the warranty expires, if it has anymore problems we're just going to trash it and go back to a plain old ordinary machine. I really hate this washer!:headache:

My 6 yo maytag did this and it was a belt. Husband took it apart and fixed it himself.

Ours was a rubber washer that had completely worn out. DF googled washing machine agitator won't spin with the brand and it showed him this part and he looked it up and this part was shot. It cost us a whole 10 bucks and 30 min to fix. It works just fine now. There was even a you tube video on how to swap it out. The washing machine would still work but the agitator wouldn't work. Don't give up hope. Check out the washer.
