Update:

I wish I knew how to sew, not just for the Linus Project, but in general as well. :)

No need to know how to sew (my expertise ends with sewing on a button!:lmao:). We made the no-sew fleece blankets. Extremely easy. Our son loved tyeing the knots and considered that his job.

:rotfl: You sound like me. ;) Only for me sometimes when I sew a button on a shirt on say Monday, it pops off on Wed. :rotfl2: OMG!:lmao:

I received a confirmation email for the date and time for my volunteering in Disney's promotion recently.
I hope that everyone will be able to take part in the program too. And that everything works out very well for all concerned as well as having a good experience too.

So far I haven't heard anything back. I haven't had a chance to give them a call about it yet though.

Just hang in there! And yes, you should definitely email or call the organization directly if you don't hear back from them within a couple of days. The Give a Day website sent me an email with the organization's contact information when I first signed up saying I was interested. I ended up having to contact them myself. I think a lot of the organizations are just overwhelmed by the response that they are getting and might have overlooked your sign-up. Good luck!

I figured so much. But between school and work (and misplacing my phone I finally found it today right before class) I haven't had the chance as of yet. Maybe I'll try and give them a call tomorrow and see if I have any luck.

No need to worry! I just saw an e-mail from the program I was interested in and I'm all registered and ready to go. It's less than one month away so :woohoo:

Update:

I and my six old nephew had a good time assisting with weeding and planting, as well with other activities at Shollenberger Park, which is a wetlands restoration/people/dog walking park in Petaluma, Ca. this past Saturday.
The turn out was great, and one group of participants came from as far as Sacramento. Everyone was busily either pulling weeds, planting, or assisting in other ways. It was the type of project that six old children were able to participate in, which is nice, so everyone had a job. Matter of fact, there were children that did more work in comparison to some of the adults. ;) Really.........
We both became filthy, but we don't care, for like I always say, you can only become so dirty, then so what....ha!.... It is like getting wet in the rain, you can only become so wet. Although it would be nice to be waterproof! :) It did not rain that morning, but it had the day before, so the ground was very soft, which was great for digging, for it was so much easier to do so. Otherwise, the main type of soil in Petaluma,is not, but rather is adobe, which is very tough to work with.

I am director of a small, local non-profit and I've registered our organziation as a volunteer site for this program. Let me just say that we have been SLAMMED with emails about our opportunities. Couple this with the fact that I'm gearing up for one of our biggest fundraisers of the year, and it's taking me a couple days to get everyone emailed back.

And please keep in mind, Disney and HandsOn Network is offering VERY little instruction to the volunteer site organziers. I get asked dozens of questions every day from people wanting to volunteer, and I usually have to just point them to the FAQ's on the website. It's very frustrating, and the execution of this program wasn't very well thought out, I don't think. Our volunteers seem to think that I MYSELF am with Disney, and that I have all the answers, when in truth I don't know anymore than any of them do.

All that said, this program has been overwhelmingly positive for us, and we are so glad our organization has participated!

I am figuring that perhaps many if not all volunteer organizations that are participating in Disney's promotion receive hundreds if not possibly more from that, in the way of interest replies. Hundreds had been received by the organization which I had signed up with.
The important thing is for anyone that is interested in volunteering is to not give up on the idea of doing so. It might take a few attempts before one succeeds, due to overwhelming responses, but one will find a good opportunity, I am sure of it.
