I primarily sell items on Ebay, but 2 Fridays ago, purchased an item (gingerbread cookie mold) for $35.00, plus $10.00 shipping on a Buy-It-Now. Obviously, I paid immediately and was excited because the seller listed that it would be shipped Priority Mail (didn't list any other type of shipping) and that she shipped out within 24 hours of receiving payment. Of course I figured she'd send it out on Monday rather than Saturday. Anyway, on Wednesday last week, I received an Email from her stating that she wanted an additional .75 for handling charges that she usually adds to the price. There was a mention of it in the payment info., but because it was a flat shipping rate, I assumed (yes, I know one should never assume :rotfl2: ), that the .75 was included-but no...and she was insistant that she required this .75.

So eventhough I hadn't received the item, I paid it because my 100% positive feedback of 101 isn't worth ruining over .75.

WELL...today (Monday 12/12-bought the item 12/2), I received the item. It was shipped STANDARD MAIL, not Priority as stated, and it had been shipped out Wednesday (she told me she shipped it out last Monday).

What would you do? I emailed her with my concerns, but other than that, I don't know... I run things so much differently as a seller-this whole transaction was just so disappointing.

I would definately make note in her feedback and possibly report to ebay. It may seem petty, but it's getting old when sellers take advantage of people and keep getting away with it. She'll keep doing it and who knows, next time it may be more money for the buyer.

I sometimes marvel at how petty some people can be. How sad for the people who know her!

I don't want to leave feedback first though and risk getting a negative (because at this point, that's what I'd give her and I've never done that before-or had the need to do that before).

How should I go about reporting her to Ebay?

Thanks! :flower:

I would email her and call her on it and ask for some money back, as the auction clearly said priority shipping. For some packages, the difference is quite a bit of money. I would do this before leaving feedback and then base my feedback on her reply. If she refuses to refund some of the shipping, I would give her a neutral stating that auction said priorty shipping for 10.00 but was sent regular mail for x.xx amount. (if you have that amount)

That's why I don't feel like I can trust the feedback scores. Is like blackmail or something. I always fear the retaliatory feedback!

I had added additional insurance ($1.30), plus paid $10.00 flat rate (for Priority), then the additional .75 for handling charges. Total=$12.05

The total listed on the tag for regular shipping & insurance is $9.05.

I'd ask for the difference between the $10 shipping you paid & whatever the amount is that she actually paid for standard rate - since you paid her .75 handling fee;o)

Normally, I'd say request that she make things right, and if she doesn't, NEG her. Sure she might give you a NEG in return, but I honestly don't think a 99% rating is bad in anybody's book. People are too worried about keeping their perfect record intact and don't help out their fellow ebayers by negging the people who need it.

But the more I think about it, maybe this isn't the time. She'll claim she didn't mail until Wed because you didn't may until Wed. And she'll claim that for your package, Standard Mail was just as, if not faster than Priority. Blah, blah, blah. And what exactly can she do to make things right at this point? Send you the 75 cents back?

I'm not saying she's right and you are wrong. Far from it. But she sound's more wacky than evil, and perhaps it's best to just walk away.

You know, it has gotten to the point where people are so afraid of getting a negative feedback that real situations are not getting reported. I don't care if a person doesn't have perfect feedback. If they only have a few negatives, I look at the feedback and determine whether I think it was a situation that would affect my purchase. If not, I still buy from them. This whole feedback thing is out of hand. JMHO.

It's really not the issue of the .75 difference. The buyer paid for priority and it wasn't sent priority. The seller sent it standard and pocketed the difference. When they quote a price & priority, it should be sent priority (IMO).

You can have negative feedback removed. I had a guy leave me negative feedback after he tried to negotiate a lower price and then didn't pay. If you agreed to the terms and did everything she asked, if she leaves negative feedback just because you did you may have a case.

I too think a perfect feedback score is over rated. Most e-bayers know that if you buy/sell long enough, eventually you'll have a transaction that goes bad. What they look for is a patern of complaints (slow to ship, bad packaging, item not as described, slow payer, etc.). 1 bad feedback out of 100+ good ones won't turn off anyone.

When I am buying theings on ebay , yes I love to see that 100% rating, but if there are negatives I then go and see why. If it is something petty or just plain stupid I ignore it and I bid anyway.

I have read some pretty off the wall comments left by others and for others.

The cost to ship flat rate box priority is only $7.70 regardless of weight for the package or where it is going in the continental usa; as long as it fits in the box without messing up the box itself. Where does the rate of $10 for flat rate come from?

I'm sure that the seller has her own flat rate for priority shipping of $10. It may not be the post office's flat rate.

A flat rate could be just a certain price she (the seller) charges v/s taking the box each time and having it weighed according to zip code. I started charging a flat rate for my packages. I set a price that I felt would be reasonable. If the actual postage was more, I lost out and knew for next time. If it was less (depending by how much), I would refund the buyer.

I think the seller primarily buys items, but has been attempting to sell more...I noticed that she was recently given a neutral feedback for a recent item she sold-all of her feedback for items she has purchasd are good...

I'm the opposite-I've primarily been selling items-but I believe in good customer relationships-I always send a little thank you note when shipping, I ship out the day (or day after, depending on the time of the payment) payment is posted-always ship according to what was stated, etc.
I've only purchased a few items and just find it sooooo disappointing to deal with this!

I just find it extremely frustrating that I could receive a negative for leaving her one-I paid immediately and even paid the extra .75 eventhough I probably wasn't obligated to do so...

I think I'm ready to take a short break from Ebay (at least until after the holidays...).

Did the person leave feedback for you? If so, do what you want.

If not, I would see no problem with advising the seller that you paid for priority and received FCM (and therefore, want the difference refunded). If not, you can file a dispute.

You can do a mutual, but the other guys has to agree, and the comment will still be there (with a note you both agreed to withdraw), you just won't have it count toward your percent, or you can pay square trade to try and work it out. I hate to sound like a broken record, but the way eBay feedback is, it's really a he said she said, and so many of us will not leave negs anymore, after getting stung (we actually thought the system worked..what a joke), so the feedback means nothing to me, and I won't leave a neg first. I have one person I was going to buy form that 100%..but he had over a hundred mutual withdrawals. Sounds like he let them know, if they didn't agree, he was going to leave them negs too. If you only have 100 feedbacks, 1 neg will make your percent drop to 99%, and if for some reason you get another, you are down to 98% which is when people re-think before buying.
