Update re Golf Cart Enterprises?

Maybe I'm alone here, but I would almost rather they not come up with a "clearcut policy," because it seems more likely to me that said policy would include a banning of outside rentals.

Excellent point, and I would hope that policy never goes into effect either.

Gotta say, that the majority of the crazy behavior I saw on carts this past trip (3 weeks in Nov) took place on Disney rentals - can't miss 'em, they're generally the only green club cars around. :confused3

If anything I think they just need to enforce the rules on cart usage within the park, ie age, speed, etc.

Yup!! And that would actually be the EASIEST solution too. No idea why it doesn't happen. Ultimately if something really bad happens (heaven forbid), Disney is going to have to deal with the fall out and liability of that - which will be a whole lot more difficult ...and costly.

Don't make no sense to me.

We were driving by the pool last Saturday and a manager stopped 2 carts. One personal and one FW issue. Both had drivers who looked close to 16 but maybe not. He asked for ID and I heard both say I left it at the camper/cabin. He instructed them to take the carts back to their sites and do not drive them again without ID. He did say the Disney cart would be taken away if he saw the girl driving it again and not producing a valid license.

I talked to him afterwards and asked why he didn't threaten the personal cart people. He said they can't take away a personal cart because if they do and something happens to it while they have it they're liable. I said well at the very least they could order it not to be driven again during their stay. We stay at Ginnie Springs near Gainesville Memorial Day weekend every year and they have what's called a "Ginnie Jail". If you get caught riding your cart after dark or stupidly they yank it. No questions asked. When you leave they give it back.

My opinion would be that all personal carts at Disney should be issued a window decal upon check in. In order to get the decal you should have to sign the form like the rentals do and abide by the rules. If you can't follow the rules the sticker is removed and the cart is no longer allowed to be operated during the stay. PERIOD. I hate to see more red tape and rules but the cart stupidity needs to stop.

:thumbsup2 It's about time!!

I like this! And it should be the case of any off-site rental carts too. I guess I sort of get that Disney doesn't want the responsibility of yanking personal carts, but that doesn't mean they don't have the right to tell someone they may not operate the cart there if they're caught not following the rules.

The reality is that if Disney doesn't start taking this stuff seriously SOON, something really horrible IS going to happen and then ALL carts will go away. :sad2:

There are 4 carts plus mine that are the fastest carts on the property. The speed limit on the main roads is 20 MPH. All of the above mentioned carts do the speed limit on the main roads. Dis carts may do 10, possibly 11 mph. In the contract they are suppossed to pull over and let the faster moving vehicles pass them - SAFELY. I can sayin the four months we have been there recently, the fast carts when going thru loops, (myself included) slow down to almost a crawl and even stop if we see kids playing in the street or that look they might run in the street. My Granny on her walker could go by faster than we do on our carts while in the loops.

Gotta say that I've never witnessed any GC shenanigans involving speed. Like DisCamper says, all the rental carts are turned waaaaay down, and most don't even do anywhere close to the 20mph speed limit.

What I see more than anything is kids driving and people just generally driving crazy or where they're not supposed to be.

Well, maybe its just me then. Without a speedometer, I have no clue how fast I'm going, but I felt like the cart I rented from Kenny was more than fast enough and there were people that seemed to be going faster, and I know that I have seen them pass buses and the like. Do the carts have their own speed limit on the property? I don't think they should go as fast as a car is allowed simply because they are not as safe in an accident and are harder to see. Again, my opinion. I sound like a grumpy old man, but I swear I just dont want to see our priveleges taken away because of the carelesness of some people.

Speed limit for ALL motorized vehicles is 20 mph inside the Fort. I'm sure there are a few speedy ones out there (some of Kenny's seem to have a bit more zip) but I think it's also that in an open golf cart it *feels* like you're going much faster.

Agreed! :thumbsup2

I know all of the people that you guys would think are fast cart people. We stop for all the buses. We run slow in the loops. So please don't package us into the bad eggs. Most of them are Disney carts

I had one of Kenny's carts over Halloween and took the GPS with me on a couple of looping trips. The cart topped out at about 17 - 18 MPH on the flat main roads - I went much slower in the loops (after all - I was looping). I would assume most of his carts are equipped about the same and would have similar speeds.
I am also sure some of the private carts will go faster, however I know nobody on this forum would ever go over 20 and break the rules :rolleyes1.

OK, it's Big Bad John back again and I have some suggestions...

DW and I just returned from FW about 2 hours ago and even though there was plenty of rain this time we still saw some so called cart rules being broken so.....

Maybe I could become a Bicycle Mounted Cart Patrol Officer. My unassisted top speed on my bicycle at this time is 34mph, and while drafting it is 45+. This should allow me to catch violators.

My maximum daily mileage was done this past Halloween when I biked 161 miles on my own plus 40 miles with a group of 6 other guys. A total of 201 miles which is not too bad for an almost 60yo guy. This should allow me to cover some decent distances while patrolling before becoming pooped.

FW carts should have a BIG sticker on it similar to the site/parking pass. If there is a violation the sticker is removed and the cart can not be used.

How about a tire boot for private carts. There is no reason why private carts should be allowed to break the rules.

Another idea I have is for YOU cart users to come up with cart rules you feel are proper for safe operation and they could be suggested to FW.

Yup, pipe dreams but Disney is the place where Dreams Can Come True.

OK, I'll leave now so I can take my flame suit off.

B.(u) M.P.S. - Bicycle Mounted Private Security :thumbsup2

And it could be in the shape of a Mickey head :earsboy:
