UPDATE pg 5- 8 months later-what a difference!!

That's very good news! The power of prayer is amazing! Alex will remain in ours until fully recovered! :)

We got some "so-so" news about Alex today. he is having a bad day and is becoming very agitated and frustrated. He is trying to communicate by writing things to my dad and others..and becomes frustrated when they cannot read what he is writing. He is upset he is still on the ventilator (they put him back on because he was becoming too overtired with breathing on his own)
I know he will be having bad days, along wit hthe good days but i think this is the first time i ACTUALLY realized that. I guess i was so used to him improving every day, that i was a little taken aback by this news. Please keep him in your prayers that he has a better day tomorrow... Thanks so much!

If i see him tomorrow, i will post an update..if not, i will post after the DISmeet! have a great weekend

I got to see Alex today after about a week and a half..i walked in the room, he looked at me and said "hey jen!" I havent heard him talk in so long and it was great to hear him! He had some type of device hooked up to his trach. to allow him to talk.He was talking to my dad and I for about 30 minutes, even joking around. He asked me how college was going and asked us if we saw the tshirts with his name on it. I was SO happy being in there.

He told us that he was even sitting up for 18 minutes--said it was dizzy, but thats to be expected after laying down so long..

People have been asking me for updates so i wanted to post this great one! thanks for all the prayers!

I'm glad to hear the good news. :)

hello everyone! i havent posted in awhile ,but a couple people have PMed me asking, so i wanted to post an update.
Alex is doing amazing! The doctors and everyone are so shocked at his recovery.
About 2.5weeks ago, he was moved from the ICU to a regular hospital room for a couple of days, and then moved to rehab..Just this past week ,they have removed his "turtle shell" brace and have downgraded his huge neck brace to a collar brace. His ankle is healing, but there is some nerve d amage, but we do not know the extend of that yet. He is 100% breathing on his own, as the trach was removed when he went to the rehab. he is able to sit in the wheel chair and may be released from rehab in a week..he still has a long recovery, but his wife is a nurse and the therapists will come to his house every day..His spirits will be better if he is at home.
We are having our big fundraiser for him tomorrow--we are doing a chicken bbq dinner, which always makes a good bit of money..I will be going and waitressing..It has been said that he may come to the fundraiser!! that will be amazing..
He is doing such a great job with his therapy and everyone is shocked at how well he is recovering..The doctors said they were amazed he survived the crash..to have come this far since June 24 is just amazing! Thank you so much for all the prayers

What wonderful news :goodvibes ! Thanks for the update. I hope the bbq is a smashing success today :wizard: .

the bbq was amazing!! we sold 1300 chicken meals in 3 hours!! Alex actually came to the bbq for awhile and i think it did him good, although he looked tired..
thanks for the support!

Wow!!! Thats amazing!!!! Continued prayers for him :grouphug:

Just wanted to post a final update--ALEX IS HOME!! He went home today and while he will continue therapy and may have more surgeries, he is out of the woods and on his way to recovering..We do not know if he will recover fully or if he will be a firefighter again, but he has come such a long way!
Thank you all SO much!

Some people have asked me for updates again....

Alex is walking! He got the ok from his doctor today that he can put weight on his left foot. He is very happy about the news and was moving around a lot today. His therapist was with him before the appointment today. The doctor said that he has improved a lot from the last time he saw him. The nerve damage did heal a good amount and he has done very well. This was great news to hear and it brings him one step further on the long road he has traveled.
He does have a long road left, but we are going day by day..and he most likely will return to the fire house eventually!!!!!

Thank you for posting that up-date.

Susan

8 months later and i still have had people asking about alex so figured i would post t he update..

He has been home for the last several months and working at getting stronger..He will not be back to how he was before the accident, but it is amazing he has come this far. They didnt think he would survive the first night after the accident, and here we are, almost 8 months later..He is going back to the firehouse in 2 weeks! He will not be the same position he was before, as that is too physically demanding, but he is going back! he is able to do so many things now and i wanted to thank you for all your support and prayers last usmmer when this happened!
