Hehe, no. I just don't think it is ever good to say someone is not doing something right, or that they don't understand something, just because they're not doing what we might want them to do.Are you an NBC exec? Just kidding.![]()

So it sounds like the most likely replacement for Leno are:
- Burn off drama series that they've canceled or are planning to cancel.
- Reality/competition series.
- Bring Law & Order: Criminal Intent back from USA, or really any USA series.
- Rush something into production before it is ready.
- Add more hours of Dateline.
NBC's Jeff Gaspin indicated we can expect two hours of scripted drama, max.
Do you think they would move Jay to a daytime slot like Ellen?
....my favorite part of the Jay Leno Show...

However, only a small portion of the NBC audience has seen the show -- the most logical approach, I think would be to start it from the beginning.I wouldn't mind if they rushed In Plain Sight, back into production and moved & airred the new episodes. That's a great show.I love Mary McCormack. USA has short, half seasons for their shows.

At this point, the only possibilities that folks are giving much credence to are either (A) Jay at 11:35, with Conan at 12:05 and Fallon at 1:05; or (B) Jay at 11:35, with Fallon at 12:35, and Conan walking away (perhaps to Fox).I think it's unlikely. The show was barely working with all the skits and stuff Leno had to do to tone down the show to make it Primetime, family oriented. He'd be better off moving to FOX, or NBC moving him to the USA Network at 11:30.
I think it is unfair to compare Jay Leno's viewership and Conan's viewership. Leno had the benefit of hit t.v. shows as his lead in. Conan(no offense to Leno) has a two bit variety show as a lead in. So, of course the nightly news and Conan's show will take a hit in viewership numbers because of this. If Leno's lead in had been a forth place show for all of those years, his numbers would not have been near what they were. Give Conan hit shows like E.R. and Law and Order as his lead in, and his viewership numbers would definitely be much improved. NBC is clueless lately on programming decisions.
Actually, if that's the case, then that's great news for NBC. It makes it possible for this past year to just be a footnote, in the end.
So far, no official word from NBC or O'Brien.
Not about what we were talking about, i.e., O'Brien leaving.Bicker NBC did make a statement
They said on the new this morning it was Conan that was leaving.
Last official word is that all three hosts (Leno, O'Brien, and Fallon) were being "professional" about the situation, and that, at least so far, they're all staying with NBC. You can be sure that as soon as there is any official word varying from that (if ever), someone will post a link to it here.
How are Jimmy Fallon's ratings, do you know? I didn't realize that Conan was doing so poorly.I think that is one of the problems that NBC is addressing with this change: Conan's ratings have been much worse than Leno's ratings were. This whole production (as indicated in the New York Times article I quote) was at least in part inspired by the worry that NBC would lose Conan to another network, but given Conan's poor ratings, perhaps NBC realizes, now, that that's just not as big of a worry as it was back in 2004.
The 4th quarter numbers are out: Ferguson is beating Fallon, 1.4/05 vs. 1.0/04. By comparison, this time last year, it was 1.4/05 vs. 1.5/05, with O'Brien instead of Fallon, of course. So it isn't so much that Ferguson is doing that much better, but just that Fallon is doing that much worse. How are Jimmy Fallon's ratings, do you know? I didn't realize that Conan was doing so poorly.
