Has anyone here ever suddenly lost all the feeling in their hands and arms?

It's been happening to me on and off all day. I just dropped a can of soda at my desk because I had been holding it and suddenly my arm and hand went dead.

It's like a numb, pins and needles feeling. When the feeling comes back, my arms hurts a little. It's mostly in my right arm and hand.

It happens both when I am not moving a lot and when I am.

Anyone know what it might be? :(

This happens to my mom all the time. When she is driving it is the worst and she has to pull over. I think hers was due to poor circulation.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Could also be a piched nerve.

Sounds like when I had carpal tunnel syndrome.

My mom gets this from diabetes. Are you diabetic, or possibly diabetic?

I get that when I am extremely cold... I have poor circulation from other health issues, and when I get chilled I lose feeling in my hands and they hurt. BTW-It's doesn't have to be cold to anyone else, just me. I don't have tolerance for cooler weather...

That was my first thought...but I'd also ask someone more authoritative.

Esmeralda--I'm hypoglycemic and this happens to me when my blood sugar drops. I also get spots in front of my eyes and lose partial vision.

I really think you should make a dr's appointment. It sounds scarey and you'd probably feel a lot better with a medical opinion. (My medical license has lapsed!) ;)

Here's hoping it's nothing!

A pinched nerve often has the symptoms you mentioned.

This has happened to me at times. I have discovered that it was the shirt I was wearing. I know, I'm weird.

The shirt had a small sleeve (1/4 to 1/2 the normal size). All of the seams seemed to bunch up under my arms (slightly above where your armpit starts) and cut off the blood flow. I no longer where that shirt and haven't had the problem since.

I know that this is a very simple explanation for my numbness. I liked the shirt too. I bought it at WDW.

See a DR. He can tell you if your shirt is the problem or not. LOL

I second the carpal tunnel....have you been on the computer a lot lately? When I have periods of extreme computer use I have serious issues with my hands afterwards :(

Another possibility is a heart attack, but that's kind of a worst case scenario

Wait....I went back and reread your post. Am I to understand BOTH arms and hands are doing this? I feel that would be MOST UNUSUAL to be a pinched nerve. That "usually" occurs on one side at any given time. I'm not a doctor, only a lowly nurse, but I really feel you should phone your doctor and speak with the nurse, telling her all you've told us here. Go from there. I'll be waiting to hear the outcome. Hop to it!!!!

Yes I am. And I get cold a lot, even when no one else is. I think it may be due to poor circulation, although, I do move around alot (ie get moderate excercise, maybe even more than average).

I think I will try to see the doctor this week sometime. :(

It's primarily on one side. I will call my doctor's office tonight and try and get in this week.

Thank you all.

I think it sounds like carpal tunnel syndrome, too. That would be most logical if you do not have a neck or back injury.

Call the doctor. I have MS and this happens to me frequently. Not saying you have MS, it's just another thought. Feel better.

How long has this been going on? I agree with numerous other posters that you should try to get to the doctors soon. There are so many things it could be from minor pinched nerves to MS. I'm not trying to scare you but that is how my MS started. Keep us posted on how things turn out.

I had these symptoms before finding out that I had diabetes and needed to control my blood suger. diabetes causes poor circulation which results in the numbness.

other systems of diabetes:

frequent urination
cuts don't heal quickly
nasseau in the mornings
moodiness (up and down on sugar highs)
when you gain weight you are very middle heavy - gain in belly and center of body.

These could also be symptoms of anemia. Especially being cold all the time.
