I know a lot of you are wondering whatever happened to WillyJ..myself included. Just the other day I was on the DIS reading some of his old classics
when I received a IM from someone. No it wasnt WillyJ but it was from someone who knew his whereabouts.
I was very excited to find out what happened to Willy I asked the IMer for the information. (oddly enough I had to pay for the information .I wired the money to an account somewhere north of Philadelphia) It seems Willy has been touring with that classic feel good group Up With People. I was surprised to find out that Willy was a member of UWP since his high school days.
The IMer told me how Willy first performed with UWP in the 1976 Super Bowl X halftime show in front of 80,197 screaming fans (I cant post what they were screaming) and a 125 million worldwide TV audience. I remember the show dearly it was called: 200 Years and Just a Baby Americas Bicentennial Tribute. I could just imagine Willy wearing a tri cornered hat ..and singing his lungs out. As a matter of fact I think Willy once mentioned that he still wears that hat on special occasions. (arent you lucky Maggie)
And lets not forget his performances with Up With People in these halftime shows:
Super Bowl XIV Salute to the Big Band Era
(Maggie I hope he got rid of the zoot suit)
Super Bowl XVI Salute to the 60s and Motown
Super Bowl XX - Beat of the Future
The IMer said Willys most unforgettable performance was when he performed with UWP at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Ga. ..dang that bomber for grabbing all of the headlines. It was to be Willys break out performance but all of his TV time was taken up with news of the bomb blast.
Well I just thought this information might be useful to any of you who think about Willy from time to time (and NO this information is not for the use of bill collectors, law enforcement, or the mob) and after reading snoopys thread I see maybe one or two of you do.
Here is a snapshot of Willy performing at a recent UWP rally in Colorado enjoy..(notice the classic Willy loud shirt, gaudy gold chain ..)
Speaking of Super Bowl halftime shows remember Super Bowl XXVII? The theme was Heal The World and the performers were Michael Jackson & 3500 local children .(no comment)
