Just came in from working all day on the new flower bed project. I am SOOOO tired ... that I can hardly move. However, I took some pics of this current state of completion and thought I would share them with you.

Just as a reminder.... here is what the beds looked like the last time I posted about it:

LOTS and LOTS of topsoil that had to be moved. DH rented a bobcat and used it to move much of the soil into the beds, however it could not get in close enough to do much more than a dump in the beds... so lots of hand shoveling was still required. On top of that... the dump of dirt on one section of the wall... knocked down the blocks. :( Then to top it off - DH accidentally knocked another section over while operating the bobcat! So we spent today digging out the wall - rebuilding the sections that got knocked over and filling in the soil and smoothing it all out. In addition, I added the last elements of the stone work that had to wait for the soil - some tiered levels that add height interest. So here is how it is looking as of this evening - starting from the front of the house:

Next order of business is to mix in the compost, and plant them up. Tonight however I plan to sit here in my computer chair and NOT move! My back is killing me and I am worn out.

Amid - I have a few extra stones left... wish you lived closer I would contribute them to your project. :)

Oh, DD, its lovely! Makes me long to move out of the city to somwhere I can actually have a garden. I read this board from time to time, but never feel like I can comment, since my backyard is an alley.

But I'm saving all your tips for one day!

Thanks for sharing, DD!

Oh my Dixie....that is just fantastic.....I think your true calling in life is in landscaping...from ideas to fruition. I am especially impressed with the tiers.

I love the curved tiers... It is going to look great....

 No wonder your back hurts DixieD!! You've done so much work and it's really shaping up great! :)
I bet DH felt bad about accidentally knocking down some of your stonework, maybe he could make it up to you with a relaxing massage! ;) Sounds like you could use one! :) :)

Kim - he DID feel badly about it. He worked a good three hours out there with me today. He dug out the sections of stonework that needed to be redone and helped to repair those sections. Then he helped with the shovel work until he was too pooped to do any more. I think he will need a massage tonight too! :)

I am starting to feel human again... one bath, two slices of pizza, and three hours of lounging around later! LOL!

Just THINKING about all the work that went into this project make my back ache! You and your hubby deserve vacations after doing all that you did. It is going to be beautiful!!! Nice going.

Oh Dixie it is beautiful. I love the curves and tiers. What a great job you and DH have done. Looking forward to see the fruits of your labor. It's going to be beautiful.

I'm sitting here visualizing flowers and it's magnificent.

Wow is all I can say, that looks great. Lots of hard work. DD and myself just came in the house from planting all day and fell on the sofa. It's pizza here tonight also. Can't wait for more pictures. Susan:Pinkbounc

This is gorgeous, DD. I can't wait to see how beautiful it will be with plantings :)

Wow, that's looking fantastic already and you don't even have the flowers in it yet! I love the tiered structure, you've done an excellent job putting the beds together. Can't wait to see it all in bloom!

(Snoopy, you can do stuff in alleys, too. Potted plants will work :D )

WOW!!!! That is very nice....can't wait til you get plants in there!!! I too love the curved stones...really adds to it!!! I have taken on a landscaping project this year also - putting in stone edging (at 15 pounds a stone  ) I'm almost done. Did the front and part of the side Memorial Day weekend and finished the one side and part of the back this past weekend. Put in alot of topsoil and have the rest of the backyard to go, more topsoil, and then a few plants and mulch to get on it. It will sure look good when it's done so I definitely feel for you!!!! My back DOESN'T like this kind of work!

I'm going to say pretty much what the other have but you deserve some nice comments for all the work you have done. I too like the different levels. It will look great when done. The stone works looks really nice too.
