Thanks again to everyone who posted with thoughts and prayers for my friends after their wreck three weeks ago. I got a call out of the blue today from one who had been released from the hospital yesterday. Another had been released last week and e-mailed me. His wife is still in the hospital but stable. Their conditions are...
Friend 1) Just released from hospital. He suffered breaks or cracks in every single rib, plus a broken ankle. He's getting around on crutches right now and is expected to make a full recovery.
Friend 2) Released about a week ago. He suffered a couple of broken ribs and a broken leg.
Friend 3) This is friend 2's wife. She was the one I mentioned had to have her spleen removed. It turns out she also had to lose part of her liver as well. She is stable, but they are keeping her sedated to help with the healing process. She is responsive when they have brought her out of her medicated state a couple of times. She is also expected to make a full recovery.
None of them remember anything about the accident. I did find out that through luck, or a higher power, their lives were spared that night. They were on a rural road with very few houses along it. It turns out that when they were hit, the driver of the first car on the scene was an off duty Paramedic. It also turned out that the wreck occured just down the road from one of the few houses in the area and the homeowner had his wife call 911 while he assisited the Paramedic. They were told later that if it hadn't have happened they all would have probably bled to death before help could have been notified. The kid driving the other vehicle attempted to run for it on foot but was caught walking along the road a short time later by the police. No word on his fate.
As for the two friends who didn't make it... there is a large living history event held annualy in May at the Texas State Railroad. They were both supporters of this event so we decided that it would be fitting to hold a memorial service at this event.
I wanted to post this for those who might be curious as to their fate. Thank you all again.
