I had a very traumatic event last year and found my way to therapy. It helped, not because I needed to "talk it out" but because she kept reassuring me that it was normal to feel the way I do and to convince me to keep taking my meds for anxiety and depression. I kept trying to tough it out and I was a frazzled mess by the end of the day but once I gave myself permission to take the meds, I was able to relax and deal with the memories and work through them.
