Update on ISIS...I need more Kitty Advice!

Well my little tornado feels much better this morning...hes going strong again....his paws must not hurt. When he was romping this morning I decided he didn't need to go to the vet...but now I'm afraid that he will hurt his paws again romping so hard....so I tried to crate him and he cried and cried and it broke my heart so I let him out.....and I just found him climbing on the banister of the stairs......so what do yall do when you crate your babies and they cry? It breaks my heart!!

You are gonna have to toughen up. I think Jason would suggest that and maybe that you put the crate in the basement.

I'm joking. My furbaby cries like crazy if I crate her. I can't help. Heck, animals wrap me around their whiskers so fast that I own a rat. If you can love a rat and a snake, I say you can love anything.

Unfortunately because I'm not home during the day while she is in the basement I don't hear Candi. But boy, when I go home for lunch and she hears me walking, she's meowing like crazy and ready to come out and play for a little bit.

When my Maine Coon baby was a baby, I kept her in a bathroom - the one with the litterbox. That gave her some room to roam, and a window to look out of.

I only locked her up at night -so we could sleep- and when we were gone.

Buy a squirt bottle or a squirt gun. If you catch him climbing something you don't want him to or running like a maniac, squirt him right in the face. They HATE that!

I agree with keeping him in a bathroom or an unused room for periods at a time. I have done this with every new kitty I've had based on the advice of my vet.

This way, at least, you can monitor him better and it will keep his "bad little booty" out of harms way.

I'm so glad he's feeling better, the little "boobala"....

I really dont know the pros and cons of crating vs. letting the kitten roam around so I am very interested in what others have to say. I have had 3 kittens at various times and had different advice from the breeders. I didn't crate any of my cats and they were fine when no one was home. However I am reading that some cats like to hang around second floor banisters and that would really freak me out!
I do believe it is wise to give a kitten his own time to get used to the house and other kitties by giving him a room to stay in but I couldn't do it for very long. I only had to keep my kitten confined when he was having litterbox issues and boy did he cry!!

Thank you so much for that link! I was browsing around last night looking for a pet sight! I did decide to go ahead and take Isis in to the vet this afternoon better safe than sorry and he needs to meet his new vet anyway!

Oh Michelle...he scares me to death...I went and looked and found a picture of our upstairs bannisters before we moved in. Okay in this picture the previous owners of the house were packing so there are boxes there but now its wide open and perfect size for a kitty to fit through. Isis will go and stick his whole head and paws out of the banister and it terrifies me that he is going to jump. Now don't get me wrong I know cats are supposed to always land on their feet but my little baby is a baby (redundant..lol) and I'm so afraid it would hurt him. I'm terrified to leave him out!

My other cats seem to know better, even my other kitten who is almost a year old now know better but Isis takes everything so fast that I just really don't know if he would stop to think.

Glad to hear his paw is doing better! Something like that happend to Tallulah once- her leg looked awful when I got home- bent at a wierd angle. I was all set to take her to the vet first thing in the morning- I was sure it was broken- but the next morning she was running around, perfectly normal! I wonder how they do it!

If you have a spare bathroom, I agree with the others that it may be a little more comfortable than a crate- I think they like the room to run around. I've heard the tip about using a water gun if they go somewhere you don't want them, except Tallulah LIKES the water, so that one doesn't work around here

Rose he would definatly test positive! I closed the bedroom door on his little booty because I have to take my grandmother to the Dr. and I can here him crying from down here. It breaks my heart! I'll update when I get back from the vet this afternoon.

I am too much of a softie....I let my feelings get hurt too easily and I get so attached to my babies! I cry more at happy movies than sad ones....uugghh I am...LOL!

Personally, I would NOT crate him. Confine to one room, yes, crate, no. That's unfair. But confining him to a room so he can get in as much trouble as he wants in that one room but he still stays safe is a good idea.

As for the rails -- you could try getting some plexiglass and lining the upper rails with it. But beware, because if he's like Sienna, he'll just jump up ON the rail and walk ON that instead of avoiding the rails.

Tammi thats exactly what he would do. The vet recommended a play pen...LOL. He said it would only work for maybe 2 weeks before he firgures out how to get out of it!

Luckily though he is fine, bruised his front paws a bit jumping around but besides that is in tip-top shape. He gave him some vitamins for kitties and some Science Diet kitty food and wants to see him back in a month. I'm just thankful there is nothing else wrong with him.
