We went down into Unv of PA today to see the specialist. There's a lot of details I'll leave out here (many different tests being done within the next 48 hours  ) but Dennis will go in Monday for outpatient surgery to have the left tonsil removed along with some surrounding tissue just to be sure, they will perfom an endscopy to take a really good look around to make sure that the cancer is not hiding any place else (this will help determine where the point of origin is), and they will insert a feeding tube in case the radiation on his throat causes burns that will prevent him from eating. They want this done now so when and if they need to use it, it is already 'established' and there won't be any problems with it when they need to use it. He will go in on Sept. 13th (my DD's 13th birthday!) to have inpatient surgery where they will remove the lymph node. Any decisions on whether they are using chemo/and or radiation will all occur when they are certain where exactly the cancer is (they believe it is only in the left tonsil and lymph node).

Lots to take in at one visit. He's have more testing done tomorrow, then again on Friday.

I've been thinking a lot about our pending vacation. I was tempted to call WDW today and officially cancel. I think I will wait til after we get a more definite idea of what the next couple months will hold. They are talking about not starting chemo til mid Oct., which would be roughly 6 - 7 weeks before our trip would be starting. I know I SHOULD call and postpone this trip (note I did not say cancel!). Don't know whether to make it in late winter, like Feb/Mar or just move the whole thing to next Dec. I have plenty of time to decide and have more important things on my plate right now.

Thanks for listening to me!

Prayers and PD!! My aunt just finished radiation for breast cancer 2 weeks ago. She is extremely exhausted and still cannot return to work. So the vacation postponement is probably a good idea - but you are right - focus on other things right now and get to that when you have a good idea what the rest of your year is going to look like.

Good luck and god bless.

 My thoughts and prayers are with you and your dh and family.

I'm so sorry Colleen. I just can't imagine how you can cope, what with everything you've had to deal with. :( You are one strong person. I'll keep you all in my prayers.

 Prayers and hugs for you and your family. I hope his treatment goes well!!

{{{hugs}}} to you. I hope the treatment works for your DH. Hang in there.:sunny:

We got through my mom's chemo by looking towards a trip afterwards. It really helped some days. She, my sister and I took the trip 3 weeks post chemo, but put mom in a wheelchair due to energy concerns. She was 66 at the time. My prayers continue for your family.

Good wishes and prayers, Colleen, for Dennis, you and the kids too. Tough on everyone. Good to hear things are moving along, sounds like it will go step by step. Do hope Dennis does well in the days and weeks ahead, please do update as you see fit. As for the trip, just put it out of your mind for the moment, lots of time to think of that later.

's
