Just thought I'd update you all on Chelsea.

She went to Booth Hall Yesterday for her 1st appointment seeing the perthes specialist.

So far Chelsea is in "Early Stages" of perthes, her Hip has collapsed but still has good movement inside the joint itself, this is what we need to stay good with if it was to regrow after the collapsing stage outside the hip the DR said they would not treat this with plaster or splints they would operate.

It will take 18months to 2years for the whole process to finish, it takes a while for the whole bone to regrow and we hope that this does re grow back to normal as much as it can it will never be the same as a normal bone but the more rounder it is the better the outcome, we are lucky as we have caught this early on, and thats good.

He thinks she should do whatever she wants and not to wrap her in cotton wool, but I think that I am going to minimise her doing certain things he did say things like football etc, are a no no, but other things are ok, but I dont want her to over do it as she is in agony later on in the day!

He said she will more than likely need a full hip replacement in her 40's, but then she is old enough to do whatever she feels is right, there is a 30% chance of the disease spreading to the other hip. He also said she will suffer artheritis in early years maybe when she is in her teens...but we dont know until the whole bone has regrown.

She was X-rayed etc, and we have to go back in 6 weeks for another check up, this will more than likely be like this for the whole duration of this, every 6weeks back and forwards, to keep an eye on it.

And this isnt related to what her cousin Charlie was born with not sure if i mentioned it but me and Charlies mum thought it was related, but it isnt Charlie was born with Congential Dislocation Of The Hip, and was in plaster for 18months of her life when she was born and then was operated on she is now 9 and has just been dicharged from Alder Hey Hospital.

So thats it so far, He said keep giving her painkillers when she is in pain, and start taking her swimming, and bike riding as this helps the movement in the Hip, we need good rotation he said, so thats what we are aiming for, then when the whole regrowth stage happens this is when we need her to take it easy so the bone regrows back to as normal as it can be, last thing we need is her operated on.

As for Florida the DR said lets see whats happened in 6weeks and how the rotation is in her hip etc.... So fingers crossed and will update more when we hear more info :)

Thanx for listening,

Bee & Family xx

P,s Hope it all makes sence I'm trying to remember things as I'm typing them down

Thanks for the update :)

Fingers crossed that things continue to improve for Chelsea - it certainly sounds very promising that you have caught this in the early stages.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you all.

Hope everything goes really well.

Beth

Goodluck Hope everything goes well:Pinkbounc

Shes a star your little 'un.

Hope all goes well.

:D Beth - that sounds a lot more positive than you first found out Chelsea had Perthes all those weeks ago::yes::

I think you are absolutely right in not wrapping her in cottonwool, but you're right to cut back on a few of the more energetic kicking exercises like footie. Tell her she'll have to put playing for her namesake team on hold for a year:tongue:

Thank you everyone :)
I just can't wait to get her on Holiday now and see her little face! she is going through such a tough time poor little thing she needs something to cheer her up and a WDW-Fix is what she needs!! :D

Thanx again and will keep you updated. :)

Good luck with it all:p

I hope you do all get to go on holiday, fingers crossed:earseek:
