Arafat has not designated a successor. when he dies, there will be a power play within the Palestinian Authority. there will be a power play between the PA and more radical elements such as Hamas. in short, there is potential for chaos to reign in the territories. and such chaos within the territories could result in escalated violence between the Palestinians and Israel.

Very disturbing news. I had not heard this today.

I heard that he has AIDS.

I heard a news commentator say the other day that he had stomach cancer which would be consistant with his symptoms but if that were the case the drs. would have already have diagnosed that. I read tonight that his brother is being treated in Egypt for stomach cancer so maybe the news commentator got it mixed up or something.

According to Reuters, he's now in critical condition and a coma.

Leukemia has been ruled out, but they still don't know what's wrong with him.
