UPDATE ON AIRTRAN Baggage Charges~if you've booked tickets prior to baggage charges!!

I can't get a straight answer from Airtran about what to do either. I explained that we're using Magical Express and how are they (Magical Express) supposed to know we booked before the cutoff date. I'm afraid when we go to check our bags for departure at the hotel we're going to have issues. I keep getting that same email previously posted here.

I am wondering that too - I wish they would post it on their website or something. We are there for 2 weeks and I was counting on having the extra bags.

We are going for 11 nights and have a rehersal dinner and a wedding to go to so we need our dress clothes also. I have been trying to get an answer from them also..May they think if they ignore us we will go away :confused3 They don't know me very well:rotfl2:

:confused3 OK I finally got a different answer but they do not seem to understand my question ...I WANT to check in my bags at BWV ...

Dear Ms. XXXXX,

Our reservations system has been modified to recognize the fact that you booked prior to April 22, 2008. You should not anticipate any problems with this. However, if you experience any difficulties, please feel free to contact me after your travel and I will refund any fees if needed.

Thank you again for your patience in regard to this matter.

Ok, I have gotten an email from the DOT and AirTran saying I will not be charged the fee for more than one bag per person because I booked in January.

Now, how do I get resort check in to also honor that? Do you think if I just take a copy of the emails I will be okay?

I would be relived if it were that easy but I have a feeling it will not be.:headache:

anyone know if the extra bag fee applies to business class passengers? In one press release it says business class can still bring 2 without a fee, however in the baggage section on the website there is no mention. I'm trying to avoid calling airtran (and of course we booked just after the April 22 announcement - but I can't complain really, $100 one way for business class is pretty darn good).

If you are uncomfortable having only the press release, I would go to the "Contact Us" section on AirTran's website and e-mail the question. They will respond and you can print out the response and take it with you.

. . . or not. I've emailed AirTran twice to ask if we are allowed 2 bags each. We booked on April 18. Both times I've gotten the auto response and nothing else.

Check your spam folder. The email address it comes from is info@mail.airtran.com . It sometimes has a person's name instead of the AirTran name.

I wish I had read this earlier. I checked in online a while ago and thought, based on the check-in reminder, that I did have to pay this fee and I would save $10 by doing it online. But it didn't charge me so I called AirTran. She told me some of them were not going through for some reason and she would note on my account that I only had to pay the $10. :headache:

did they make you pay the $10 at the airport?

When I got to the airport I told the check in person what happened and she said "Yes, I see you booked back in February." They did not charge me anything. I did not say anything on the way back and there was no attempt to charge us for the extra bag.

Just to put this to bed. Here is the email I received today:
