Poor guy, he just got the Call of Duty game he's been pining for and then the darned console dies.

SO, the good wifey I am starts looking online for the Xbox/walmart/GC deal because Microsoft wants $100 for the repairs (riiiiight, this is the 2nd time this has happened. Like they're getting $100 for that. If I spend this money, I'm keeping ours as a backup for parts) Of course, the deal expired YESTERDAY. Go figure. I've checked BFAds and didn't see any good deals on the Arcade system, just $199 at Toys R Us (who do they think they're fooling-- that's not a bargain!) I checked ebay, but they're mostly without warranties, and I'm not touching a non-warrantied xbox with a 10 foot pole.

So... does anyone know of any good deals on the Xbox 360? I'd be eternally grateful!

My DH's died also. He looked up videos online and fixed it himself. I can't believe it worked, but it did.

I would say though:
1. He's very handy
2. I told him he would NOT be able to just go out and get another one if it didn't work

I just asked him and they were on you tube. Good luck!

I have seen some Bundle deals but nothing that screams CHEAP. Good luck finding a decent price and I feel his pain. We also have a "parts" xbox as a result of that red ring. And don't let them fool you with the elite- it still gets the red ring- except it isn't red but it's the same system failure. We know because it's happened to us.

Now sometimes taking out the hard drive and unplugging it- letting it cool and putting everything back sometimes sometimes works.

My boys (dh and teen son) are glued to the game right now. I just bought it today as a little treat.

You know, I'm suprised he hasn't taken it apart yet! I'm gonna suggest it. :thumbsup2 Worth a shot, right?

Oh I didn't know that about the elite-- that thing is pretty cool looking! Sucks about the error though. Its just irritating because this is the 2nd time it's happened to us, too.

I'm definitely going to suggest taking what he can apart. Like I told the PP, I'm suprised he hasn't already.

DH was absolutely thrilled with the game, it was like Christmas for him! Poor guy, I feel badly for him. Ah well. I'm just going to be my happy lil elf self and try to do what I can to find him a new one at a price we can afford (which is like $25.. LMAO.. just kidding)

When did you get it repaired for the red rings before? We just recently got ours repaired and were told it has a one year warranty for the RROD.

Has it been less than a year for you?

We went through the same thing twice. Got it repaired under their warranty (that they extended for this issue) and then it went again about a month ago. My DH took it apart and put new thermal compound on the processor. Works awesome now :worship: He did say there were lots of how to diy on the internet as it appears it such a common and ongoing issue.

Good luck, I hope you can get it fixed! It's completely frustrating.

What's the code for the failure? My son had the RROD and got his console replaced at no charge two years ago (it was only 8 months old) and about three months ago got an E74 error message...NOT the RROD...and this was also covered under the extended warranty. We got it replaced at no charge.

We've had nothing but problems with the xboxs in our family. I know it would probably be a hassle replacing the games and everything, but we have the PS3 and love it. No monthly fees, has a blu ray player and after years of CONSTANT use no issues.

I hope your DH can fix it himself, but if not its something to think about.

I just wanted to update and say that DH fixed it himself! THank you all for your help!!
