...can you tell me the good, bad, and ugly about using them? We are considering joining them since we are TERRIBLE about returning movies on time, but I would like to hear from some satisfied customers first. ::yes::

We are also horrible about returning movies on time and started using Netflix about 6 months ago. We're really happy with it. We get three movies out at a time, which works out well for us and comes to $19 and some change with tax. Turnaround time has been REALLY fast (I generally get new movies by the third day after I've sent the old ones back.) Keep your queue full and review your movies to get recommendations. They have new releases and tons of other movies. I think I have about 350 movies (or more) in my queue between movies for DH and me, family movie night movies, and movies for each of my 3 kids. It is so nice to not have to worry about late fees and leaving the house anymore :) Try the two week free trial!

PS One other thing I like is that you can add movies to your queue before they are even out in the theaters! You can save them to your queue so you don't forget about them later :) Great service!

We have used them for about a year and LOVE it! Our kids are still little enough to go to bed at 8, so Fri & Sat nights we are always watching movies. They are very quick about getting your next movie to you. If i mail it on Mon, we have the next one on our list by wed or at the latest Thurs. We don't have HBO, but we have used Netflix to watch series like Band of Brothers and Sopranos. It is so easy- and no late fees ever! There are a ton of movies to choose from, and most of them are always available. I think Mr & Mrs smith we did have to wait a few extra days after it came out, but still got it within a week of release. Just put the movie back in the envelope & drop it in your mailbox when you are done-it is that easy.

You won't get any bad or ugly out of me in regards to Netflix. We've been using them since February of 2001. We LOVE them. We fluctuate between plans....we've been on the 3, the 6 and at one time the 8 :earseek: at a time.

Right now we're on 6 and we have it set up in three different queues....2 movies for me, 2 for dh, 2 for the kids. That way when I send back one of MY movies, I get the next one in MY queue. :)

Turn around time for us has improved over the years. It used to be about a week (we're in Central Ohio, the closest Netflix distribution center was in CA) Then it was several days (they got a distribution center in Cleveland) Now (new center in Dayton) I can send a movie back on a Monday and get a new one on Wednesday, Thursday at the latest!!

I believe there are "trail" netflix subscriptions out there. They come on banner ads or pop ups. New DVD player boxes at Best Buy have had them on them.

HTH!

I have to agree, we've had ours for several years and love the turn around time. Our closest warehouse, or where ever it is they go back to is right in our town, so it's even faster.

Downside is there are some movies, especially older ones, that they don't have. We had actually signed up with Blockbuster at one time just to get those movies. Have since canceled Blockbuster since the turn over time wasn't as fast, and again, there were movies that they didn't have but Netflix did.

I'd go try the 2 week free trial option. I love the fact you can keep them as long as you want, especially helpful when you're going out of town. Just keep the movie and send it back when you get home, no canceling your membership, no paying for overdue fees.

must add....

there have been a few times over the last 5 years that we've gotten a broken DVD or one was lost in the mail (one FINALLY showed up back at netflix about 8 months later!) and Netflix was VERY understanding about it. I think if it's excessive they may look into it, but they must understand that DVD's break or get lost occasionally.

(btw, once we got a broken DVD--Tinker the Otter--and we reported it...they sent us a new one. IT was broken too. We reported it. The THIRD one was broken. Finally we quit trying and a few months later reordered it. Got it, and it was intact, but an incredibly STUPID movie!!)

Love it. Been using them since April and have kept track on the number of movies we have seen each month:

April - 18
May - 15
June - 18
July - 10
August - 8
September - 9
October - 10
November - 12
December - 12
So far this month - 7

In the beginning we were able as a family to sit and watch, daughter now has a part time job after school so it has gotten harder to have a fast turn around time. The movies are released on Tuesday so if you have a return received on Monday you are pretty much guaranteed a new release will be mailed. If you don't get the new release on the day it is released you will wait a while to receive it because of all the other new releases. It sort of snow balls.

I singed up for the free trial for netflix and blockbuster. They both were great but blockbuster had a closer distribution center so I got my movies faster with them. If you do this just remember to cancel the one you don't want.

We have been with Netflix about 2 years and absolutely love everything about them!

We joined for a different reason. We never had trouble returning movies on time. Our problem was we never had a movie when we wanted one. You know, put the kid to bed, sit down and realize there was nothing on tv that nite. Too late to go out and get a movie and still have time to watch it that nite. With Netflix, we always have 1-3 discs sitting there waiting to be seen. Plus, we don't have to watch the movie all in one sitting if we don't have time. We can watch half one nite and the other half a day or two or three later.

Turnaround time is excellent, about 2-3 days usually. We have never been unable to get a movie we wanted.

We have had 2 episodes of receiving damaged discs. One wouldn't play right - kept stopping and freezing. The other arrived cracked. Both times I reported it on the website and mailed the disc back and had a replacement disc within 48 hours.

So I've got just good, no bad or ugly.

Same here. Just LOVE Blockbuster on line. Don't know why we waited so long to join!

I Love Netflix :lovestruc . My hubby and I usually on watch movies on the weekends so we watch the movie over the weekend, put them in the mail on Monday and by Wednesday of that week I have new movies to watch. I have been with them for about 2 1/2 years. I have only had one movie get lost in the mail (I was returning the movie), all I had to do was notify them on their website and another movie was sent out immediately. I have nothing but good things to say about them. :cool1:

I have had Netflix for about 6 years now - I love them, and can't think of anything bad to say at all! They have just gotten better since the company first started (when I had to wait a week for rentals, because the movies were all in San Jose!) The selection is wonderful, they are usually very fast and you can keep the movies longer or just a night. I was grandfathered in for the 4 movies at a time I started with, which I appreciated.

I'd never go to Blockbuster - it took them YEARS to get with the program, kicking and screaming all the way. :) Netflix is wonderful! If you are on the MyPoints program, go through there - you can get some points out of it too!

We've had Blockbuster online for quite a while and we love it. I think we are near a distribution center so our turn around it pretty quick, but they open new distribution centers often. I like them because you get two free movie or game coupons per billing cycle to use in the store. It is nice when the kids want to rent a game or there is going to be a snow day (rare I know) we can run up there for a couple of extra movies. It is also nice with very new releases, sometime online is a long wait, but we can go right in the store and use the coupons if that's the case.

I did the trial on both services, Blockbuster was much faster for us, which I didn't understand because they both have distribution centers in my city. But anyway I also liked the added convenience of the in store rental if I forgot to add a new release to my queue and I couldn't wait to see it. lol I think both services are great!

We subscribed to Netflix about 3 years ago for about 6 months. The only problem we had was that we never watched the movies we got. When I signed up for Netflix I thought that since it was so easy to get the movies, we were more likely to watch them. But, that just didn't happen. Sometimes it would take us 2 weeks or more to watch the movies. So, if you generally watch 6+ movies a month, I think it is a great deal. We just didn't watch movies as often as I thought we did. But they are a great service if you can use it. The website is extremely user friendly. They have an enormous collection of movies. Their customer service is great.

Hi! Just did the two week trial and decided to continue. They did charge me the monthly fee THE DAY my trial ended! We only get one at a time and it's really nice. We've probably gotten 4 in three weeks which is still a great deal compared to the video store. I don't know where my distribution center is, but they usually are delivered/returned the next day after mailing. :flower:

Nothing bad to say about Netflix. Used them for about 2 years! We switched to Blockbuster last year and really it is a better deal. Same 3 movies at a time, but you also get 2 free coupons for in store rentals a month. Includes games, which are more $$ than a movie, which the kids love because I let them pick out 2 movies a month. Just my opinion.

We've had this problem at times, but it certainly isn't Netflix's fault ;) .
We find that during TV rerun season, we watch a lot more movies than during the new episode season. So some months we really get our money's worth. Other times we pay for the convenience of having 3 discs sit here for a couple of weeks.

Another thing we really like about Netflix is being able to get all the TV series on DVD one disc at a time. We've been working our way through Star Trek: Next Generation, Macgyver, and a couple of others.
