Something new? It's been a few months since I set up a waitlist but this is different from then. Tonight when setting up a new waitlist I noticed that there is no longer a check box for if you authorize borrowing or not. Now there is just this message indicating that you do authorize borrowing:

"Authorization to Borrow Vacation Points
If your Waitlist request is confirmed, it may be necessary to borrow Vacation Points from your next Use Year in order to confirm your reservation.

Preferred Home Resort of the Contract from which to Borrow

If your Waitlist request is confirmed, indicate below the Home Resort of the contract from which you'd like to borrow Vacation Points (if necessary)."

And then it has you select a resort to borrow from. You still have the same option to replace an existing reservation.

Then, when you hit continue you get this message:

"Things to Know Before You Waitlist Your Stay
Before you Waitlist your stay, please be aware that:

  • We will borrow Vacation Points if necessary to confirm your stay. Borrowing is a final transaction. Should the new reservation be modified or cancelled, any borrowed Vacation Points will remain in the Use Year in which the trip would have occurred.
  • Should your Waitlist request be confirmed and replace an existing stay, any Disney Dining Plans with the existing stay will be cancelled. The cost will be refunded to the original form of payment and you will need to add the Disney Dining Plan to your new reservation. This may be done online or by calling Member Services.
  • Multi-night stays should not be Waitlisted separately as individual nights. If you choose to do so and only one of your Waitlist requests is confirmed, you will have to move rooms during your stay.
  • Multiple Waitlist requests for the same accommodation and travel dates will search and match separately; there is no guarantee you will be able to confirm both."
I preferred having the option to say that you don't authorize borrowing. I always felt it had a chance to have the CM double check that you had a reservation that you were looking to switch rather than to just go ahead and fill it and borrow. It is nice that they have the notice about the Dining Plan being cancelled, even though I tend to think they ought to transfer it.

I don't like this change, either. I have several contracts and I thought the old option was a good fail safe in case my points were accidentally being pulled from the wrong contract (I very seldom borrow points).

There is probably no CM involved in these transactions anymore and having a checkbox would simply make the waitlist fail. It is probably better that they removed it. In the majority of cases, unchecking this would be the equivalent of not waitlisting.

I actually noticed this about a month ago, so I don't think it's from the most recent update. I don't like it. I have multiple subcontracts, and I'd almost always prefer that they use all current points before borrowing. I'm not convinced they'll do it right.

+1 : I don't care for this change either!

Really got a bit chapped over it when setting up my most recent waitlists. Grrrr ... oh, well. What can you do?

I don't like this change either. Having that checkbox saved me one time when I had two waitlists come through at the same time. The waitlists were for the same day in two different categories for the same resort. Both requests were not replacing an existing reservation. Both came through on the same day and they borrowed points to fulfill both waitlist requests. When I did the waitlists, I did NOT authorize borrowing. Because I had not authorized the borrowing, I was able to cancel one of the reservations and have the points returned to the correct use year. Of course, they still may have returned the points when they realized that the reservations were for the same people on the same day. Still, I felt better knowing that I had not authorized borrowing.

Has anyone called pr emailed MS after setting up their waitlist online and asked to have notes added to it that clarify which points to use? I'm wondering if that worked out.

It's an extra step, but IMO, better than having to get things straightened out after the fact.

I have THVs booked for Christmas through New Years Day. We are very happy to be there but never thought of putting in a waitlist for the Boardwalk or BC. I know its a long shot but may as well try. Can I do this myself (a waitlist) or do I need to call? I booked the week as one full week (well really day after Christmas though New Years Day). I dont want a split atay so do I just request the exact days on my waitlist?

Thank you.

Just pretend you are making a reservation for the dates you want at the BWV. It will tell you it isn't available and ask if you want to waitlist all the dates. You say yes and when it asks if you want to replace an existing reservation if it works, you say yes.

That should be all you need to do. Good luck!

Perfect. It worked just as you said. Thank you so much! I love the dis!

It is nice that they have the notice about the Dining Plan being cancelled, even though I tend to think they ought to transfer it.

The problem is that the new reservation may or may not contain the same number of nights and/or guests. Thus, there's no good way to transfer something like that.

I'd bet that the many, if not the majority, are waitlists where a member is replacing. If nothing else, a check box to transfer the Dining would make sense.

It'd still have to be the identical number of nights and the exact same roster of guests to keep the price the same. (And, if you moved the first day past December 31, the price would again change.) The check box would only be valid if all those criteria were met. It seems overly complicated compared to just cancelling it out and rebooking at the appropriate rate.

It would be the same process - I'm not thinking it would be otherwise. But it could be done without requiring member action. It's kind of silly IMO to have a member set up the dining but then if the waitlist fills then they have to do it again when they could have an indication of it it should continue or not.

Multi-night stays should not be Waitlisted separately as individual nights. If you choose to do so and only one of your Waitlist requests is confirmed, you will have to move rooms during your stay.

This is the change I don't like. It is easier to get one night at a time. In the past if my waitlist came through I was able to call and have it combined/linked with my existing reservation.

I suspect the option to combine will still be there with the same parameters as before.

What exactly does that statement mean, anyway? It says "if only one of your waitlists is confirmed". I think that just means if, say, you have Monday thru Wednesday booked and you waitlist Thursday and Friday, then only Friday comes through, you'll have to move somewhere else for Thursday. That's yet another poorly worded statement causing confusion where there previously was none.
