UPDATE:....I am pretty sure I will NEVER get the money for the gift cards I sold....

I did receive my check for the 3 gift cards I mailed in. I was pleasantly surprised!! :goodvibes

You're worried about a Post Office employee stealing your envelope? I think you'll be fine.

My Dsis was losing mail...and found out that their letter carrier was taking cards from the people on her route. The postal carrier took things that looked like birthday cards (that would have money or gift cards in them). She got caught after many complaints from people in the area.
I dont like to send cash or gift cards in the mail since watching her go through this.

My mom reminded me the other day....YEARS AND YEARS ago...my oldest son never got his b'day card with cash in it from my mom. He is 19 now. So that was a longgggggggg time ago. Anyway..... she thinks it was taken by a postal worker. No proof but I have heard this happening. SAD.....

Postal workers will absolutely take mail. There was a scandal years and years ago (early 90s) in the Boston area. A local postal worker was taking envelopes made out to a certain credit card company (can't remember the name this was so long ago). He had set up a checking account in that same name then was depositing the checks intended for the real company into the account and then transferring the money to his own personal account.

This seems really odd. I've sold and mailed gift cards to plastic jungle (which suggests on their website that you insure them) have always insured them. I've insured many packages/letters I've mailed and I've never once been asked what was in the package or been given restrictions. I would call a different post office (so you don't get the same clerk) and ask if there is a list of mailed items that cannot be insured. It almost seems that the person who might have stolen your gift cards was the clerk you handed them to at the post office.

Edit: Nevermind it looks like everything worked out, still though I always insure valuble things in the mail.

What is the mailing address of Plastic Jungle? Does it say Plastic Jungle? The clerks might not even know what that is. In my case...the address was Giftcards.com for the first line of the address.

See:
http://about.usps.com/publications/pub122/pub122_508_018.htm

"For negotiable items, gift cards, currency, or bullion, the maximum indemnity is $15."

Next time, if you don't want to pay the $8-10 for registered mail, use signature confirmation for $3.

Learn something new on the DIS everyday! :goodvibes

I'm not sure 100% sure if the mailing address contains the title "Plastic Jungle" or not. You just print the prepaid shipping label and I never really paid too much attention to it. Next time I will definately get signature confirmation instead of the insurance though.

Glad it all worked out for you.
