Well hello Trip Reports Board! I really have never spent much time here, every trip I determine I'm going to do one of these but I'm not sure if it's me not really wanting to admit the trip is over or if just because I jump right back into planning my next trip, (which may be several years away but I need to know NOW if I'm gonna eat the cobb salad at the Brown Derby three and a half years from now!)

The planning is the big thrill for me so I don't think I ever thought reporting would quite fill that void in my soul that planning does... okay time out, I just need to let you know I am listening as I speak... uh... type, to the Spectromagic music on mouseinfo.com radio, there is something about music, Disney music particularly that does something to me… so the first thing you will learn about me in this trip report is yes, yes I do have ADHD and I am not ashamed, I am medicated but not ashamed. My learning disability which effects (or is it affects?) my focusing and attention I think greatly contributes to the massive amounts of time I spend on the DIS. Disney is one of my great passions so when other “more important” things in life like cleaning the house, paying bills, or going to bed come up I find myself defaulting to the DIS, which I’m sure many of you can relate to.

Well I have decided that slightly over one week has passed since my 8th trip (or possibly 9th, I’ll discuss that quandary later) and if I don’t start this report now it may never get started… OMG! The Gummi Bears Theme song!!!... Okay sorry, I’ll try to not do that so much…

So let me introduce you to the characters of the TR,
Leading Cast Members: Danny (me), my DW Jamie, and our DD4 Hannah

Oh, yeah, and that bump under Jamie’s shirt is our unborn DS, Noah. Jamie was roughly 7 months pregnant this trip and yes she was tired, but this trip was all her idea! I’ll get to that later to.

A Little About Me

My first trip to The World was when I was 7 years old in September of 1990, to save you from trying to do the math that makes me 26 years old. The first time I went to Disney with my parents we stayed at the Comfort Inn Select on Palm Parkway for $27 per night! It was my parents and I (the only child) and my cousin David who was (and still is) the same age as me. I remember being in line for the backstage tour at MGM and my Dad talking to the family behind us saying that our trip cost $1600 and the other father asked if that was for our hotel and my day said “No, that was for everything for the entire week! Air fare, hotel, tickets, food.” I don’t remember the father’s reaction but my Dad recalls him being dumbfounded because they were staying on property at either the Grand Floridian or the Polynesian. I remember I thought that $1600 was real lot of money but for some reason that other family didn’t think so…

It was my Dad that got me into this Disney addiction, he didn’t have the DISboards, he didn’t even have the internet but I remember the cord from our phone being stretched from the kitchen, through the living room and into his office and him being on the phone with hotels, and AAA and Disney, working out the details. He didn’t have WDWinfo and AllEars but almost daily brochures from the Orlando, Kissimmee, Lake Buna Vista, and Walt Disney World would come in the mail.

Our next trip we stayed at a Condo with family friends in Kissimmee in November of 1991, we stayed at some Motel called the Gala Vista in Kissimmee our 3rd trip in 94, and finally we stayed on site when the values opened in August of 1996. We stayed in the All-Star Sports, I remember they we still building the All-Star Music when we were there. So in 97 we stayed at the Music (check out this thread to hear more about that trip: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=774856). Oh and why this may of been my 9th trip is because my Dad swears that we went another time between 91 and 96 but can't remember excatly when or where we stayed... see what drugs do to you, thank God he never did any!

Jamie and I went on our first trip together married, just the two of us as “adults” in 2006 and stayed at the Pop Century. Yes, did you do the math? We did leave our almost 2 year old home with the grand parents for that trip but don’t worry last May my parents decided to pay for us all to go because they wanted to see Hannah in WDW. Do you know much fun it is planning a trip to Disney with someone else’s money? We stayed at the Pop again and I vowed to my wife by the end of the trip that I was done with the Values, our next trip we would stay in a Moderate Resort! Well let’s just say that she didn’t share the same sense of urgency to stay in a moderate that I had. She really likes the Pop, as do I, if your gonna go value I recommend Pop over the All Stars but I just wanted to move up the social ladder in Walt Disney World.

Any of the Mods would do, the Caribbean Beach, Port Orleans, or the Coronado Springs, and that was my next mission in planning to determine which moderate to stay at. Well come just this past May we hear about free dining again, which we keep saying we want to take advantage of and my wife says to me one morning before she goes out the door for work “Let’s go to Disney.”

Okay so I ran and got a Q-tip and cleaned my ears out and asked her to repeat what she just said, so she says “Well we got a big income tax return and they got free dining going on so why don’t we go back with Hannah, it will be nice just the three of us without your parents.”

So after I came to I got up off the floor and said “Are you serious? Because if you are serious I’m gonna call Disney up like right now and book this thing!” And she said yes and I wasn’t gonna give her time to change her mind. Later I talked to her about quotes I got and that they were holding a reservation for 6 nights at the Coronado Springs from September 13-19.

“The Coronado Springs? Oh, I like the Pop Century and it’s cheaper.”

Teaser for Chapter 3: Disney Suprise Morning

I'm in. Don't make us wait to long before you post day two. Yes I know there is a thing called work, but they have to know that a disney trip report has to come first.

Well I'm glad I got a couple in the audience! No it won't be too long...

My wife is “frugal” as she likes to say, others may call it by other names like tight, thrifty, a bargain hunter, economical, easy on the pocket-book, cost effective, efficient… I call it cheap. No I am not criticizing her; it is good she handles the money like she does. She does most of our bill paying and handles our finances, or at times lack of, very well. Her frugal side could not see paying more for basically the same thing, a small room with two beds, a television and a bathroom.

I am a master-debater, shhhh lets keep that our secret… umm… I mean I do well at debating and I was determined to convince my other half that we needed to stay at the Coronado Springs. I kind of had the upper hand because her pick the Pop Century was all booked up. Our only choices for values and free dining were the All-Star Sports or Music.

“But we discussed that next time we would stay in a moderate and we’ve looked at all the pics on Buzz’s site*, it will be worth the extra money.” My meager opening did not seem to faze her.

“Why can’t we just save some money? The money we save we can use for spending, we already are saving with free dining…”

“Exactly! This is the perfect time to spend a little extra because we are saving with the free dining!”

“Why do you think going on vacation we need to spend as much money as possible? Why can’t we do a cheaper vacation?”

“If you want to do a cheep vacation then why go to Disney?” I then suggested sarcastically, “Let’s go camping then instead!” That didn’t get much of a response but we talked about it a little bit more and finally we came to an agreement, Coronado Springs! I’m not sure had the Pop actually been available if things would have worked out the same but things were looking good.

Our next dilemma was when do we tell Hannah? Right away? A month before? A week before? My idea was, let’s not tell her at all! I’d read on the DIS that family’s surprised their kids with their Disney trip but how was that gonna work? She is four years old but she’s smart and she always asks about going back to Disney. Whenever she sees an airplane she thinks it’s headed for Disney World. We did our best not to talk openly about it in front of her and told the grandparents and family and friends to keep it hush-hush. When we started packing we kept our bedroom door closed with our suitcases in it and we told her she could not go in our room, surprisingly she didn’t ask any questions. The day before we told her that Mommy and Daddy were both off work the next day and we were gonna do something fun but we had to get up early and I asked her if she had any ideas of what she wanted to do. She picked the drive-in movies, earlier in the summer we took here to her first drive-in to see Wall-E and she had been wanting to go back. I told her maybe unless we could think of something more fun…

Hi Danny !! I'mon board ! Yes I am doing a PTR it's on the PTR board ( How original !! You'll see my lack of computor skills is helped out by others and my ingenius way of posting my PP !!Looking forward to more of your review and to see you over on mine !!When is Jamie due !!

I'm in Danny. Saw your link on the CSR thread and started laughing. I showed that video to my boys when it started circulating and they both yelled at the computer "you stupid kids. Who cares about Dick? You're going to Disney World. Do you get it?" They still bring it up. Little do they know that in 10 days, they will be video'd with their surprise.....

Looking forward to hearing how you pull it off and hearing about your last big trip with just the 3 of you.

Oh - you have a great writing style.

Okay, I haven't had time to update my TR with Day One because I've been playing around with youtube and video stuff. I did have some success because although I don't have Day One for you I do have a little preview of Day One with my first ever youtube video. This was about 5:00am, Hannah is having breakfast and has no idea why she has been awoken at suck an ungodly hour, suprisingly she is in good spirits because although she may have gotten her mother's good looks she is not a morning person just like Daddy. On the morning of our departure for WDW I am bright and chipper with video camera rolling though, but Hannah has no clue about WDW yet she wants to go to the movies. Okay, well check this out and hopefully tomorrow I'll be ambitious enough to get Day One up...

Yeah, those kids were crazy! At least you know your kids will have a good reaction, I'm gonna post the video of Hannah's reaction in a couple of days. If I don't get to say it, have a great trip and post me a link to you TR if you do one!

Danny -

Hannah is adorable and looks pretty "chipper" for a little one who woke up at 4:30. I surely wouldn't look like that waking up that early. Looking forward to seeing how she reacts after eating her toast.

Is it hard to upload to YouTube? I already have had requests from my family to make sure we share our video with them. Trying to decide if we should just use the video from our digital cameras or borrow the camcorder from our older DD. We gave her ours a couple of months ago.

Just wondering.... do you have any trouble at WDW with your ADD? DS13 is ADHD and takes meds, but, it takes a while in the morning till the med kicks in.

I would say one big challenge for me is waiting in lines and anyone who has been to Disney knows that WDW has plenty of lines. I just can't sit still for too long my brain wants to like jump out of my head. The good this about WDW is that most attractions pre-show areas (AKA line ques) are themed and entertaining, like the new Toy Story Maina at DHS was full of giant playing cards, building blocks, board games, crayons, lincoln logs, and other toys, etc... which was the longest line we waited in the whole trip maybe 25 minutes, but it was entertaining, I pointed out all the diferent toys and things to Hannah, took pictures, in other words I didn't get board. Now, on the other hand the other longest line I waited in was for Dumbo and I just about thought I would kill myself, it was only 15 or 20 minutes but it felt like 2 hours, especially at the end when your in the sun, it's just a line like if you were at six flags or another ordinary amusment park... torture! And I don't mean to just sound like im impatient, I work with people with developmental disabilities, that takes patience but it keeps my mind moving, when my mind has nothing to do my head starts spinning sometimes, or when my mind wants to do too many things but I can't do more than one at a time... Okay, well thats just a glimpse into my crazy brain, it's my best to try to explain what goes on with me. I take Stratterra which I take at night because it makes me sick if i take it in the morning, even after breakfast. I've only been experimenting with meds for the past year or so b/c i was in denial for so long... if your worried about your sons meds kicking in maybe keep him away from the crowds till you think he will be ready or whatever you think will be a challenge for him... I'm not sure if any of this is an answer for you but what are his biggest challenges and maybe I could give you some suggestions on how to avoid those in the parks...

We have taken our now 28 year old son to disney when he was a teen. To avoid all the action I got him up half hour eailer, that's how long it took his meds to kick in, and by time it was time to go he was fine. Just remember to bring them with you if he has to take them after lunch.I also brought something for him to do in lines in case he started to get ansey(sp). If he has an MP3 or Ipod bring it.HAnd held games help etc... HE went with us in Aug and is now off his meds, although he still needs them and his leg was going a mile a minute on the rails, but he was fine.

My DGS is 6 and ADHD ,the meds are a HUGE help .Last time we went to Disney he wasn't on them!! :scared1: This time will be better . He loves his DS and that can help with the lines !!
Danny we do need patience don't we:lmao:

Hi Danny, I followed your link over from the PM to check out your report. Can't wait to see what a great week you and your girls had! Maybe I will get a trip report together when I have a few minutes. :rotfl: :rotfl2: Right now, I am too depressed. That first week back home, trying to catch up and knowing you won't go back for a year or two stinks!

BTW, DS, whose birthday you helped make awesome is ADHD and Asperger's. It was very interesting to see how he handled Disney.
