Hi! Is anyone heading to WDW in the near future? I would like to but I have 2 unvaccinated child and one vaccinated child. Hubs and I are both vaccinated. If WDW had kept their safety mandates and kept capacity down, I would feel a bit better about it, but everything I see and hear tells me that the parks are packed.
Would wearing masks and hand sanitizing be enough?

I'm going at the end of August. I'm going with my 2 vaccinated 18 year olds. I wouldn't take my 10 year old right now. It's a personal choice though and nobody but you can make the choice for your family.

We are going this weekend! My husband, oldest child and myself are all vaccinated. My 11 year old is not. I am fully armed with surgical grade masks, hand sanitizer, wipes and because of my type of work i can rapid swab my family as need be for peace of mind. We'll be doing the walgreens route for swabs to get home though as the rapid antigens aren't accepted to return, plus i wouldn't have official documentation of results with the rapid antigens.

My brother in law is a surgeon in a large Florida hospital. They are seeing a spike in pediatric Covid admissions and he said on the weekend that their Pediatric ICU is almost full. For that reason, no, I would not take an unvaccinated child while Florida is in the midst of their Delta variant wave. It would be just too risky for me for a vacation. We do hope to go in January, but our family is fully vaccinated. Everyone will make the choice that works for them and their family and I don't wish to debate, just sharing my perspective.

I’m not going until March but with what’s going on, I have decided we won’t be going unless my two children (6+8) can be fully vaccinated. When we booked a few months ago I would have said I would take them unvaccinated if cases are low . But this past month shown me how quickly things can change and now I wouldn’t take the risk.
Come on Pfizer children’s trial results !!

I cancelled my trip this fall because my youngest isn’t vaccinated. With the way things are spreading and how in Florida they seem to act like covid isn’t a thing, I don’t think it’s safe for him. But everyone has a different tolerance level.

But I don’t think masks and sanitizer will be enough. The parks are getting crowded and people are not spacing out all. I’ve read reports of very crowded areas. And you can not count on people following the masking rules like they should be.

I’m hoping they will start vaccinating kids by the end of the year and then we can go next spring. Figure it’s only a matter of months before kids will be vaccinated. We can wait.

If I were to go to Disney in the near future I would have to accept that my unvaccinated child will come into contact with several unmasked people with COVID. I would have to accept that there is a non-negligible chance that one of us would be positive and have to self isolate in Florida. I would have to have the funds ready for that, or good insurance, and have back up plans for jobs(s). I'll return to Disney when I can drive and isolate at home if need be.

I am not overly concerned about the health outcomes with an unvaccinated child personally. Although my kid will get vaccinated as soon as available.

I am heading out in a few weeks. I am not scared of Covid because we are vaccinated and the risk to young kids is low (lower in comparison to other illnesses that no-one seems to fear). However, I recognize there is a chance we could test positive and have to isolate in Florida for 14 days. We do have a contingency plan in place if that occurs. I don’t love the idea of anyone getting sick on holiday though even if it ends up being mild so it’s a tough decision. My decision was based on the level of risk we face in ending up seriously ill from Covid. My recommendation is research the risks and make an informed decision based on your own research and risk tolerance. Kids can and do get seriously ill from Covid but review the stats and make an informed decision based on your comfort level.

Don't forget to take into account that if you need any other type of medical care that significant resources are being taken up by COVID-19. So yes, you may feel like the risk to you and your family connected to COVID-19 is within your acceptable range but that won't stop all of the other things that can derail your vacay. Simple ear infections can be handled by the great after-hour clinics that Disney will direct you to (or at least they usually are, don't know about right now) but not sure how broken bones, burst appendix, heart attack, car accidents will be dealt with right now. Might be worth checking sources for information regarding this - someone mentioned on one of these threads that the children's hospital is getting full??

What's your plan for returning? Are you flying to a border state and crossing by land just in case someone tests positive or is your return flight straight to Canada, fingers crossed. I like your positive thinking btw!

Well...we are returning straight to Canada.....I know it's a gamble if someone tests positive. I'll be testing my family every day or second day so there shouldn't be any surprises when we get our test at Walgreens...if i start to suspect i am seeing a faint positive on the rapid antigens i will need to put a plan in to act quickly....what that will look like will need to be determined but I will figure it out. I am taking responsibility for my family's health and it's all on me if someone ends up positive. That i will have to deal with if the time comes. All I know is i have gone more than a year and a half with zero time off of work (healthcare) and I am at a breaking point and need to escape for a bit!!!!

We have a family trip planned for December for 4 vaccinated adults, 1 vaccinated teen and 1 unvaccinated 9-year-old; however we will cancel if any of these occur:
  1. If the 9-year-old hasn't been vaccinated yet;
  2. If quarantine is required for arrival in the States or return to Canada;
  3. If the virus is raging in Florida; or
  4. If my mixed-vaccine (AZ and Moderna) isn't acceptable for entry into the States
Also, we'll need to come up with and be comfortable with a contingency plan should one of us test positive and not be able to fly back home. I like the idea of a house rental.

There are a lot of "if's" so this trip certainly might not work out, but I've booked it anyway as the Disney rooms are refundable (we don't have park tickets) and the vast majority of flight costs were paid with travel bank credits under Westjet's cancellation guarantee.

We were supposed to be at WDW in about a month, but are instead going to the Bahamas now. The entry and testing requirements there are more strict, the hotel we're staying at is testing all employees weekly, and we'll have more space to spread out from other people. I made this decision a couple of months ago, but seeing how things are in Florida right now, I'm glad I did.

We also have a trip planned for the end of January that I'm avoiding thinking about. It's to celebrate my second son's second birthday. We were supposed to have gone this year for his first birthday, but didn't because of Covid. We're also supposed to fly straight to Brazil after, for him to finally meet my family there (again, was supposed to have happened in 2020, but Covid). I can't believe we're all still in this place where we're having to cancel trips that we thought for sure would happen.

Not for me it wouldn't. The US Covid numbers are horrifying, and Florida's are insane.

And once again for those that don't "fear" what this will do to young children I say - viruses are tricky things. Just because you might think someone got "mild" Covid does not mean that this virus doesn't have serious long term effects. We have ZERO idea what this thing might possibly do in the long run. Your innocent childhood chicken pox can come back with a fury decades later as a severe case of shingles. That is only one example.

If masks and hand sanitizer were enough then Covid would be pretty much gone by now.

Unfortunately, no, they're not enough. You also need distancing, reduced capacity, and to be in a place not experiencing a large outbreak.

You couldn't pay me to travel to Florida right now - even if we were all fully vaccinated. But ESPECIALLY not with an unvaccinated child.

We are going to Disney and the beach for a couple weeks in mid September, for us we are ok going with our son being fully vaccinated. We feel ok about it although with the numbers in Florida it still gave us some pause. If we were not fully vaccinated we wouldn’t do it, but that’s just us. I am still not entirely sure going is the right decision but we had to make one eventually so decided to jump.

Welp, just pulled the plug on our upcoming October 6-20th Split-Stay BC/WL Trip. Booked the remainder of our dining this morning and then the wife and I had a chat about the what ifs.

We have a 10 year old (11 In Sept) and don't want her to get sick - or any of us to test Positive on a test prior to return.

We will push it back until next Oct/Nov - hopefully the situation in the south is better next year.

Rethinking even staying on Property with perks being removed left and right- will see how this all shakes out this fall + spring.

Bright side - maybe Epcot will not be a construction project and Guardians and Tron will be complete.

We are booked for November but don’t plan on going. Trying to rent out our dvc reservation. I truthfully think next October might be better. Also booked in Feb and I’m assuming we will cancel.

Yeah - this is the tough spot we are in - we booked DVC privately. We had originally booked end of last March before the wheels fell off the whole bus for a Feb-March 2021 stay - luckily the gent we rented from let us push it out to October 2021. I am working with him on a plan. Going to take a hit for sure.
