Up, down and all around...a trip we will NEVER forget - COMPLETE 1/19

Thank you!!!!
We have a Canon XSI. It's a digital SLR, so you can adjust the settings, which makes night photography of moving objects much easier. For Spectro, I turned the ISO up to 1600 and the shutter to about 60. I also opened up the apature (f-stop) as large as it would go. No flash. I learned this tip on the Photography Board here on the DIS.

I am not sure what setting(s) my DH used for the fireworks. He said he was messing around with them some during the show. I know he had it on a manual mode without flash - but not sure of the ISO, apature or shutter speed. Taking these pics with your flash off is vital. A flash will make them appear dark because the light from the flash cannot travel to the object (it's too far away) in the short time the shutter is open. Not sure if that helps any for you though...what kinda of camera do you have?

Spectro is VERY tricky to get good pictures of-there isn't much light and it's moving. Not an easy thing to photograph!

I'm so glad to hear you have been enjoying the report! And yes-there will be future TRs!!!!

oh i don't have anything that fancy... but looking to upgrade but with camcorder...

and forgot to mention.. love WL... that's what we are saving for next!! :goodvibes

happy new year!!

Wow.

Wow.

Wow.

Those were some awesome pictures!! Thank you for sharing!! Wow. I'm so amazed.

And I'm also amazed at that mom thinking it was okay for her kid to STAND IN YOUR STROLLER?!?!? :scared1: What in the world?????? I could see a kid getting away from mom and dad and climbing in, but you'd think as soon as the parents saw that, they'd be yanking their kid out lickity split. That's just nuts.

But way to go and not letting that get in the way of your magical evening. It sounded the the perfect ending to a day... and getting to share those stickers - how sweet of you!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

love your pics, spectro was not running when we were there in aug because of constuction on the liberty square bridge so your pics made me feel like i was there . thanks

Those Dole Whips are awesome, aren't they?! They acutally have a booth each year of Dole Whips at the Minnesota State Fair. I resisted getting one last year because I wanted my first to be at MK, but, if we go this summer, I will be getting a taste of Disney at the Great Minnesota Get Together!!

Get outta here! They have the sweet nectar of a dole whip at the state fair??!? :faint: Thank you my dear DIS friend for sharing this info with me!! Do they have pineapple???

As a former 4-Her I'm embarrassed I don't know this!! Okay, I know where we'll be stopping (but I realize, we'll be back to Disney right as the fair is starting... I'll have to re-evaluate future trips to balance the year out, Dole Whips in Minnesota in the summer, Dole Whips at Disney in the winter!) Maybe that's what all the snow birds up here do... it's not about escape the Minnesota winters, it's about balancing Dole Whip consumption...

Brooke - my DH bought me this camera for Christmas! I've never had anything but a point & shoot, so this is all new for me. I've been playing with it a little bit and love the pictures it takes. I think I'm going to need to take a class though, to really learn how to use it!

I'm so excited to take it on my next Disney trip and see if I can get some of those great fireworks shots as well!

I believe the big scary bat with fangs is Chernobyg (I don't think that is close to being spelled correctly) from Fantasia. I could be wrong though.

You're right - that's who it is!

Amazing photos! Did you use a tripod? I also love the one with the kid on someone's shoulders. Very cute. And how nice of you to share the sticker magic!

You had to wait for the 3rd boat, huh? Doesn't sound like you minded. Overall what did you think about the transportation to/from WL? I think I'm staying there next Dec... at least that is my dream!

Thanks! We didn't use a tripod...many of our pictures DID come out blurry, but many (as you saw) were also very clear. DH has got a steady hand! :goodvibes

Handing out the stickers was so much fun! It was great to see all those little faces light up.

Waiting for the boat wasn't bad at all. It did take a while, but I would say there was less than 5 minutes between the boats. They realized the mass exodus after Wishes and compenstated with more boats. I thought the transportation from the WL was alright overall. I did NOT like how it shared a bus sometimes with FW or GF though. AKL doesn't share a bus at all and that was our only other Disney bus experience. But, I would still stay at the WL and use Disney transportation without complaint. The buses arrived promptly and we never had an unbearable wait-even with the boat.

December at WL = :cloud9: you gotta do it!

Never say never, Brook!

I am still shaking my head over the room allowing her son to stand in another person's stroller!!! Did she even ask or say anything to you or Joe??? What is wrong with people! I am so aghast!

Beautiful pictures of the parade and fireworks. I believe the big scary bat with fangs is Chernobyg (I don't think that is close to being spelled correctly) from Fantasia. I could be wrong though.

That was so sweet of you to hand out stickers to the kids walking by!

I am so excited to be staying at a resort that does turndown service -- I have already written a note in my binder to remember to call about it.

 You'd think I would know that by now, wouldn't you?

Themother didn't say a word to us. She actually stood there and held onto his waist so he wouldn't fall. It was absurd. :sad2:

Ahhhh, that makes sense about the bat!! I haven't seen Fantasia in FOREVER (obviously).

Turndown service is really neat! Joe thought it was silly, but he didn't think that way after we got home and tasted the chocolates. ;)

What awesome pictures!

385 pictures in 1 hours? I am impressed! :worship:

Did Joe use a tripod for the Wishes pictures?

Thank you! Yes, 385 between Spectro and Wishes. In some of our Wishes pictures you can actually see the progression of the fireworks - shooting up, exploding and then fading. He did a very good job!

And nope, no tripod! There are quite a few blurry ones, but soooo many came out nicely too.

oh i don't have anything that fancy... but looking to upgrade but with camcorder...

and forgot to mention.. love WL... that's what we are saving for next!! :goodvibes

happy new year!!

We also have a hard drive camcorder. It doesn't take the greatest pictures, but it is SWEET for video. We took very little video on the trip, we just forgot about the camcorder altogther for some reason. It's so nice to just plug in the camcorder and download it-not dealing with tapes or anything. The video quality is also very good.

I believe they now sell digital SLRs that do video recording. Not sure on the quality of the video though (or the price, that one has to be scary! :scared1:)

WL is AWESOME. Well worth saving for!!!!

Wow.

Wow.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Thank you! It's all the camera and Joe's very steady hand. Well, and Wishes being completely AWESOME!

Yes, it was ridiclious about the kid standing in our stroller - I couldn't really believe it myself... If she would have asked if he could squat down right in front of Joe and I, I would have said yes, and even given him some fries! But to just do that - ugh. And like I said above, she even gave me this sheepish smile, knowing she was wrong in letting her son stand in the stroller, but continued to hold his waist during both shows so he wouldn't fall...:sad2: All well though-it was not worth a battle, esp when I was holding all that food and had a crying hungry baby climbing up my leg! ;)

Happy New Year to you too! I keep forgetting it's the 31st! :rotfl:

love your pics, spectro was not running when we were there in aug because of constuction on the liberty square bridge so your pics made me feel like i was there . thanks

Oh man, no Spectro! That stinks! But, I'm glad to assist with the pictures to tide you over until you can see it. In January it's only showing a few times while we are there-and not on the day we have MK planned. Hopefully we can hop over to the park just for it (and another Wishes showing...and maybe even a bit of Casey's...;))

Get outta here! They have the sweet nectar of a dole whip at the state fair??!? :faint: Thank you my dear DIS friend for sharing this info with me!! Do they have pineapple???

YES, IT'S TRUE!!!!!!!!

And yep, they have pineapple. If I remember correctly they even have the Dole Whip Floats.

You are HILARIOUS about your comments on the Snow Birds. :rotfl2: However, I think your plan of Dole Whips in the summer in MN, and Dole Whips in the winter at Disney sounds FANTASTIC. :thumbsup2

That is a GREAT Christmas gift! We LOVE this camera! It is really fun to play with the settings and see what you get - and the picture quality is very nice, even on the "point and shoot" mode (which we do use most often).

Taking a class is a great idea - I've had two photography classes before, but not in a very long time, and not on a digital camera. I would love to take one as well and really learn the functions of the camera.

Have you checked out the Photography Board on the DIS at all? People there are very helpful too.

Have fun with the camera!!!!!! I can't wait to see your pictures from your next trip! :yay: (Your CA ones took my breath away - you have a great eye for photography!)

Your Spectro and Wishes pictures are stunning!!! They gave me chills!!!!! We've never seen Spectro :confused3 We've missed it for 1 reason or another for 3 trips! Last trip I promised myself I wouldn't leave WDW until I'd seen it. But, alas I had too! I've planned ever so careful and hope and pray that we'll be watching Spectro go by a week from tomorrow!!!

I can't believe the people had their kid stand in your stroller!! What's the deal with that?!

YES, IT'S TRUE!!!!!!!!

I think a Minnesota DIS meet here might be in order!! Everyone wear your Mickey ears!

Thanks, that was nice of you to say! My next trip is almost a whole year away :sad2: I'm sad that I have to wait that long, but I've never been during Christmas, so I'm so excited to get to go in December!! And, that means I've got plenty of time to learn how to use this thing! I do really like it so far, except I don't like that you can't use the LCD screen when it's in point & shoot mode (at least I haven't figured out how if you can - if it's possible please tell me how!).

I've never been on the Photography board, I'll have to check it out!

Wow! Wow! Wow!

Those are some FANTASTIC photos of Spectro & Wishes. I can't believe those were without a tripod. Beautiful. The way your framed the Spectro floats with the Castle is just awesome. I felt like I just had a little New Year's Eve viewing of Spectro & Wishes in my own home! :goodvibes

I need to go read my camera manual again. :rotfl:

Wow Brook, Joe took some fanatastic pictures! I'm totally in awe!

If you do a MN fair Dis meet let me know. I must admit, not a fan of the Dole Whip but if they still have the fried pickles, giant cinnamon rolls and milk booth, I'll join you!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I just replied to everyone and the DIS tweaked and lost it all! Ugh. :sad2: I almost always highlight the whole reply and copy it-just in case. Of course this time I didn't! :headache:

Thank you! I know full well how those plans go where you don't get to do what you want. But, it makes for a great reason to go back, doesn't it? ;) I really hope you get to see Spectro this time!!! Your trip is so soon! :yay:

The stroller thing is hard to believe isn't it? I was shocked that someone would do that too...just absurd.

I think a Minnesota DIS meet here might be in order!! Everyone wear your Mickey ears!

I am SO game!

Are your dates right over Christmas? That would be so :cloud9: to spend the holiday at WDW. Ahhhhhh....

I had thought there was a way to do the LCD while in P&S mode, but I just tested it, and nope, there isn't (at least that I know of). That is strange.

Wow! Wow! Wow!

Thank you! Joe says it was all the camera, but I know he also has a good eye for a shot, and obviously, a steady hand! Our camera does help though, it really does a nice job on night shooting. My favorite Spectro pictures are those with the Castle in the background too, it was so pretty.

Did you watch the New Years Eve fireworks from WDW on the Travel Channel? They just had the countdown ones live, but they were incredible! I also found a DISer who had a live webcam set up from his room at the Poly (that overlooked MK), so I watched them live from his webcam on my computer and on the Travel Channel on TV. It was amazing to watch everything explode at once! They had fireworks coming from EVERYWHERE. So, so cool.

Wow Brook, Joe took some fanatastic pictures! I'm totally in awe!

If you do a MN fair Dis meet let me know. I must admit, not a fan of the Dole Whip but if they still have the fried pickles, giant cinnamon rolls and milk booth, I'll join you!

He did a very good job! :goodvibes I LOVE that he took a bazillion too, because then we were bound to get a few great ones.

I would LOVE to do a MN State Fair DIS meet! Good friends, fried pickles, fried candy bars, hot dish on a stick and the big yellow slide - I'm IN! We really should attempt to organize something as the date gets closer though, it would be awesome!

(hitting copy this time....:sad2: )

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!

I hope you all had a great holiday. This little family didn't do much, but it was good! We went to church, then came home and did our budget after putting Henry to bed. Then we watched the fireworks from WDW live on the Travel Channel and on a DISers webcam live from the Poly. THAT was awesome. We stayed up (way too) late watching Disney stuff on the Travel Channel. I'd have to say, it was a mighty fine way to spend the holiday!

I don't recall if I shared this here, but the company Joe and I work for was bought out a few months ago. It's not a bad thing-at least not yet-we'll see what time will tell... (they say it will be "business as usual", but who knows in the future) - it was a privately owned company and now we are owned by a very large public company, so our little private shares got bought out and we received a sum of money from the stock options. We used that to pay off ALL our remaining credit card debt, AND we paid off our car, AND set aside all the money for the January trip, AND we are going to put a large sum of money to our DVC, which will almost cuts the length of the loan in half and save us over $7,000 in interest. :woohoo:

That leaves us with 2 wee little hospital bills (0% interest), a student loan, a house loan and a DVC loan for debt.

I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS!!!!!!!!! We have been working very hard on our debt since before Henry was born. It feels FANTASTIC to say we have NO CREDIT CARD DEBT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (esp. if you knew what we started with :scared1:)

None!
Zero!
Zilch!
SEE YA CREDIT CARDS!!!!!!!!!

With that said...We did apply for a Disney Visa () that we plan to use to get the points back on it. We will pay for our trip with the card, then come home and pay it off with the cash we set aside. Then we get freebees from the dollars we spend. :thumbsup2 We will NOT use it for anything other than what we can turn around and pay the balance off with. We have learned our lesson!

Also,

We are in the teens for the January trip!!!!!!!!

:yay: :yay: :yay:

It's coming up so quickly - YEA!!!!!!!!

Did I tell you that Lost will be premiering while we are on our trip? Lost is one of my favorite TV shows and I get to watch the premier from SSR. We are going to make a pizza (or grab CS) and kick back and enjoy. Sounds like a perfect night to me. :cloud9:

I am a "lurker" who has been reading the threads for a couple of months and I must say that I am enjoying yours immensely! I am contemplating starting my own PTR for our upcoming April trip and and trying to piece together exactly how I do this. Looks like there is lots to put together but once I actually get started I am hoping it is easier than it looks.

I look forward to the rest of your adventures!:thumbsup2

Are your dates right over Christmas? That would be so :cloud9: to spend the holiday at WDW. Ahhhhhh....

Yep! If all goes as planned. Christmas is on a Friday this year, and we will be arriving in WDW the Saturday before and will stay through Christmas. I'm so excited, I can't wait to spend the holiday at WDW, see all the decorations, go to the Candlelight Processional, see the Osborne Lights, the Storytellers in Epcot - I could go on & on!! :cloud9:

Congratulations on getting all your credit card debt paid off!! That's fantastic!

Wasn't it fun watching it live with Dave? He's such a nice guy to do that!

Congratulations on paying so many bills. That's what I'll be doing from today (already started a few days ago, actually) until I leave on March 18th - totally paying down bills!

Hi Brook! I am finally caught up! I wanted to say that I loved Henry's haircut! He looks so adorable with his new look... too cute. :lovestruc
I am glad you are going to get to the Tea this month (now we can say that!) We went 2 different times and really enjoyed it. It was nice to sit down and soak in the Grand Floridian atmosphere. :cloud9:
Your Spectro pictures are really good! Great location with the castle in the background. Sooo pretty!
I'm happy to hear you say good bye to the Pepto! ;)

Congratulations on paying off the cards! Definitely only use them when you have the money, but use them when possible to get the perks! Sounds like you guys really have your heads on straight!

Happy New Year to all!
