Do you put anything unusual in stockings?

This year, I bought dh a few tins of sardines. He likes them, but never buys them. I will be nice and not complain about the smell. :)

We are going to get duct tape for the kid's stockings. They love duct tape! :lmao:

The other stocking stuffers I'm doing are pretty typical stuff--candy, ornaments, lip gloss/earrings for dd, gift cards, etc.

my DD really wants a pack of spin pins, so i'm going to put them in her stocking. i have to put her hair up in a bun each week for dance class, and she HATES all the bobby pins. i'm also going to get her a new pack of hair elastics (although these aren't a very unusual item).

i'm also doing the usual - flavored lip balm, hand lotion, new scarf and candy. maybe a small gift card.

Actually, in my family, those would have been considered fairly normal. When my mom was still alive, it was something of a family tradition (and contest) to see who could come up with the oddest stocking stuffer each year. (Once she passed away, the tradition came to a stop, more or less. :sad1: )

My Dh is getting a sleeve of golf balls and popcorn kernels. He is getting a new popcorn machine. Probably some golf gloves

Stocking stuffers are an art in my family. We shop all year for them and put in a lot more effort than we do for normal gifts. I don't know about sardines, but here are some of the more odd ones I'm doing this year:

- Summer sausage (DH always gets one of these)
- Wine sandals (they're like wine charms, but are sandals and double as coasters)
- This little device that lets you turn a wine bottle into a oil candle (my parents love wine...and oil candles)
- Cocoa that turns blue when you add hot water

And the kicker? A little "microcache" device that can hold a small piece of paper, onto which I will put GPS coordinates, at which coordinates there will be left yet more coordinates, and so on and so forth, until we end up at my parents house (some 70 miles away). DH picked up a geocaching hobby this year, so I decided to make his Christmas day just a little more surreal.

Calculators. Right now it's the most favorite "game" on my phone. :confused3 :rotfl:

last year we had a fun game. Each in the family had to buy a gift at a gas station for $5 or less..it was a blast, really.,,,shopping was the fun part!

My brother and his girlfriend (who he is proposing to on Christmas day! Hooray!) are on some kind of wacky low carb diet, so they both put that they wanted carbs on their Christmas lists. She actually specifically said she wanted carbs that wouldn't hug her butt. I'm making them carb softies, or carby's as I'm calling them. A little stuffed cupcake with eyes, arms, and legs for her, and a pizza version for him. I'm going to put on the gift tag "Carby, the cuddly carb who loves, but won't hug your butt!"

Awesome!:thumbsup2

Among other things, DB is getting sardines, DH and DDBF are getting duct tape! DD is getting the ingredients for hummus. :goodvibes

You sure he won't feel ripped off over the popcorn? Here's why I ask -

We had company over the other night and several conversations were going on at once. One was Christmas lists, one was grocery lists and yet another was DS asking if we had popcorn and I was telling him we were out.

DS11 heard someone say, "Put it on your list."

He stops and yells, "Hey I'm getting ripped off!"

He thought he was being told to put popcorn on his Christmas list when he was actually being told to put it on the grocery list.

Note to self - don't give DS popcorn for a gift!

I did this last year,a chunk of coal..Good for the teeth..

I did warn them!!:lmao:

But the real gifts were under the tree.

Obviously he hasn't sold BSA popcorn - that stuff is pricey! :lmao:

DS Red Sox and Patriots antenna balls.

DD Neon Orange and Blue laces for her lime green Converse.

DH is getting a power strip that is shaped like a stick figure person and the ends of the arms, legs etc are the connections - its adorkable for the Sr. dork in my life. I'm very proud of this find.

Everything in ours is usually odd. In the kids, a car kit, motor oil (for our go kart), a donkey bible dvd,a glock necklace, a sugar skull and some various cardboard skulls. I got a skull themed craft space. Oh and some coal since I stole an antena ball off my aunts car (with good intent!)

No he wont feel ripped off. Popcorn does not go on the shopping list. You should see the huge bags he does buy. And by the way its on the oyher thread I would be afraid of the shopping list. :scared1::lmao:

Dh has gotten cans of Vienna sausage in his stocking. DD got coal- she asked for "real" coal on her Xmas list because she wanted to see what it looked like. Then, she got very concerned that Santa might think that was ALL she wanted!:rotfl2: Hmm...wonder why she'd be concerned?

My kids always get a piece or two of real coal, as I always did as a kid (a reminder that we can always do better!). I think the coal we reuse every year is the same coal that my mom sent to my dad with gifts the Christmas he was in Vietnam. We also always put a potato and onion in everyone's stocking...don't know where that one came from, but my kids are at least the fourth generation to get those. Once when I was a teen, I took an onion to a candy store that dipped anything in chocolate, and dad got a chocolate covered onion :rotfl:

I saw a USB hub like this at best buy yesterday. I little stick figure man who's arms and legs were usb connectors. It was $10. You might want to check by the check out at best buy near you and then you can have a stick figure set!

We have standard stocking stuff every year -- Andes mints for DH. Kids get the lifesavers sweet storybook and a bag of chocolate coins. Everyone gets an orange and a bakery-shop gingerbread boy or girl.

That leaves only a little room for odds and ends. This year, DS is getting some super hot shake-on spice; DD is getting special colored sprinkles (she likes to decorate her ice cream and cupcakes, etc.). Each is getting a flying monkey, and a usb flash drive as well.
