Hello, we are scheduled to fly out to Orlando International on Saturday VS075 at 11am from Manchester. My DH works on an oil rig in the North Sea out of Aberdeen. He should have been home yesterday eve, there are no helicopters at present due to thick fog. He may very likely miss our flight on Sat. If it gets to Fri and he is not home wll VA move his flight? We three will go out on the existing flight. Also I will need assistance at MCO will luggage, will there be someone who can assist me and also I will need transport to my hotel...Parc Soleil Suites by Hilton on Palm Parkway, DH always drives but I am not confident to do so.

Advice please
Thanks

Did you book a flight only or a package/fly drive.

If you booked a package you will need to contact the agency you used for further info- I would do this now as if he is the lead passenger this may be more of an issue for you.
If it was a flight only then the best way to find out what they can offer is to contact them.

Good luck hope he gets back today/tomorrow.

What kind of travel insurance do you have? You may have more joy going that route than with the airline. It won't hurt to ask, but this is the kind of situation a good insurance policy is designed to cover.

Good luck. I hope he gets back so you can travel as a family :wizard:

A lot of polices no longer cover weather related issues- we had a hard job finding that did these days.

Flight only with VA, there are plenty of available flights in the following days and we have the money to buy one, but just wondered if. VA WOULD SWAP. NOW CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH TRANSPORT FROM THE AIRPORT.

well I used virgin a lot for flights and many times have moved flights
there's a fee for doing it - but I've never actually been charged it - though i was flying with them a lot for work - basically I'd book a return date that was a guess and always have to change it.

They should be fine - re when you get there
luggage on a trolly - straight to a cab! :)

Cliveywolves, thank you. So much for that. We will only need transport one way and it would be $61 I think that is a great price to pay for knowing that there will be someone there for us. Let's hope it doesn't come to that!

I flew Glasgow to Orlando in May and sadly, for family reasons had to cut my holiday short. VA changed my flight with 1 call and got me back to Glasgow on a flight within 24 hours. They did charge me £100 to switch but under the circumstances I was OK with that.

One option would be to call Virgin and see if he can change his flight to Aberdeen to Orlando which would mean a quick change at London. Virgin Little Red now fly from Aberdeen to London.

I am sure your husband will know the heli-port in Aberdeen is at the main airport. He could literally come straight offshore and fly to Orlando.

Just a thought.

Good luck

Thanks for that Lucy's dad. Yes he has worked out of Aberdeen for many years, so is very familiar with the airport/heliport. Equally he also has a ticket down to Manchester booked as that is how he gets home anyway and his sister lives ten mins from Man airport so he can always stay over at hers and fly out the next morning.

There are always taxis waiting outside MCO run by Mears. We once had to take one when Alamo ran out of cars, it cost $50 to Disney All Star Movies (although that was about 14 years ago prices have not changed that much)
Mears estimator says $52.42 from MCO to Typhoon Lagoon (very similar distance) I believe they estimate around 10% under so I would say $60-65 incl tip. http://www.mearstransportation.com/taxi-services/taxi-fare-estimator/

We once missed our VA flight from Heathrow to LAX, they changed us to the next flight 3 hours later with no fee. I guess its down to the member of staff that deals with the situation if you get charged or not.

Let us know the outcome.

Just so everyone is aware I will have 5 year old DD (very sensible and good) with me and 2 year old DS (prone to tantrums), this is why I want to know that someone will be waiting for me. Thanks for all your help so far x

Is there any sign of him being home yet? My brother has just retired from the rigs off Aberdeen and he can now start having overseas holidays!!! I can't remember many occasions lately when he could get on and off the rig with no delays. Good luck and I do hope everything works out for you.

I have never done it so not 100% sure but I believe if you pre book you have to goto the Mears agent to call the next taxi in line just same as walk up bookings. Unless they now do it different. Anyone prebooked recently?

We hired with Tiffanys town cars - a nice cab with the driver waiting at baggage for you, great for helping with bags! And they will even stop at a publix so you can grab a few bits if needed - we paid $65 when we went direct to RPR

Could be good for you with the extra help at baggage.

So next question....if I then wish to get a taxi to MK on our first morning because I have no other means of transport, will the taxi take us without a child seat? I don't want any lectures on safety thank you and I always use correct seats at home, I would put them into seat belts in the taxi. It's just if DH is stranded for up to three days, I don't want to be stuck in the hotel unable to go out.

I believe that Orlando has recently changed it car seat laws and that all under 5s need a booster. Taxis always don't carry them and certainly don't carry two.
