unusual question about magic bands, and hotel switch overlap

Not even sure what board to ask this odd question.

We arrive at WDW in a few weeks. We have a few nights at VGF on DVC points. Then we have 4 nights at WL on $$. The day we were scheduled to switch hotels, is the 24 hour day/ Friday. Which means we would be "homeless" on that Friday. A day we think we need to rest.

Are you still with me? OK. So I added an extra night to the WL reservation. I will sleep at WL on Thur night, my 2 friends will sleep at VGF. Then we decided we might add the food plan, to the WL reservation. This is when we began to realize we may have a problem.

We need all 3 of us on the food plan for all 4 WL nights (not a problem). But when I check into WL, will that check all 3 of us into WL? And stop their Magic Bands from opening the VGF room? (my friend was not going to cancel the VGF room for Thur, because the points would go into holding, and she did not want to deal with that).

We are not trying to be shady, and we are paying for the meal plan for all 3 of us, and we are paying for both rooms of course. I guess the only issue is that they might not be able to open their VGF room on thursday. Because they are checked into WL already. When I check in, does that check all 3 of us in? Or can they check in on Friday?

Is everything linked to only one MDE account? Or, does the WL lodge reservation have a separate MDE?

Even if it's only one MDE, it may keep both reservations valid for that day in question. Just because you check into another resort doesn't cancel/end the first reservation. Probably should call IT to make sure everything stays intact for that one overlap day.

You may have a problem opening WL room. We had a split stay in November. We checked out of WL and headed over to SSR. They assigned us a room at SSR and when we got to the door it wouldn't open. I went back to the front desk and they realized the system was still showing us as checked in at WL. Since we cant be in 2 rooms at the same time the band would not open the 2nd reservation. It took a lot of time to straighten out. Good luck!

I think we may end up having my friend cancel her VGF, points go into holding, and we all stay at WL Thursday night.

I had a similar issue with checking out when switching resorts. When I got to AKV, they at first couldn't do anything with my bands because I was still showing as checked into AoA. The CM at AKV had to officially check me out of AoA before she could make our MBs active for use at AKV (I assume our tickets and everything would have still worked on either sets of MBs we had, but that I wouldn't have been able to use them to enter my room at AKV).

This was 3 weeks ago.

Interesting. I don't think that only I can checkout of VGF, and check into WL? That is exactly what is happening though, I was going to stay alone at WL for that first night, while my other 2 friends remained at VGF.

Because even if they let me do that, we would have the complication of the meal plan being for all 3 of us, and being tied to the WL room, where only I checked in.

I know I need to call Disney, but I worry about getting a knowledgeable CM or getting one who just guesses, or one who tells me the wrong information.

Is the WL reservation on your MDE account and the VGF on your friend's MDE?
