unusual presents given

When I was *really* little, I gave my grandma a potato... she had said at some point that she liked potatoes, so... :)

the most unusual gift I ever *gave* was a few years ago when I canned up some of my delicious vegetable soup and gave it to my mother. She has not stopped talking about that soup! So this year I canned soup, Greek green beans, no-suger-added applesauce, and carrots. In all, 12 jars. She is going to freak!

If my family had a sense of humor (they don't), I would ask them to each buy a box of Tastykake Chocolate Juniors and wrap them up for dd12. Sadly, they wouldn't do it, so I won't bother asking. But my dd and I would be in stitches!!! (We live in VA, and we can't find that type of Tastykake here. So every time we go up there, we stock up with boxes and boxes.)

I did, one year, give my sister a good gift. She always complains about getting presents, they're not what you want, not useful, gotta find a place for them, whatever. So the one year she was the worst about it, I made a contribution to Heifer.org nad told her I bought her a cow.

My mother is a HUGE fan of anything pirate and especially Pirates of Caribbean. So a few years ago I bought an inflatable treasure chest and at the bottom of it I put her wrapped gifts (a Tonner Captain Jack Sparrow doll and several other POC things). On top of the gifts I put in tons of little pirate novelties, you know the little trinkets and party favors you can get for parties and such. There were yo yos, pirate pens, earrings, necklaces, note pads, and endless other things...all pirate themed. It was all mixed in with 15 pounds of chocolate gold coins to fill this thing to the top. On Christmas morning, she came out to seeing this treasure chest opened up with jewelry (silver necklaces and earings and charm bracelets; Pirates of Caribbean of course) drapped over the top and all these gold coins with all the toys and party favors mixed in. It really did look like a treasure chest. OMG, she was overjoyed! It was so much fun watching her reaction and it took her hours to sift through all that and find the treasures. It was great fun!

And it took about a year for us all to eat all those chocolate gold coins! :rotfl2:

When my nephews were teens, and big eaters, I bought them each a big brown paper grocery bag filled with snack foods...all labeled with their names. They loved it:thumbsup2

One year for my birthday my MIL gave me paste food coloring. My cousin was watching me open it and I could tell she was horified ;) I thanked my MIL and explained to my cousin that I can't get paste food coloring where I live, so I had requested it!

A little backstory...my grandma loves mustard, especially the brown german mustard. But she would never buy it for herself. Didn't want to spend the money. So one year my mom and my aunt and uncles all bought her jars of mustard for Christmas. She got other gifts as well but she loved the mustard.

Dh and I haven't really gotten anything super weird, but one yr we got our friend a awesome gift. Our friend always says he needs a "buffer zone" when he is in the restroom :confused3. I guess so others can't hear any embarrasing sounds. It is a running gag with all of us now. Anyway one yr I found a toilet paper holder with a built in radio and thought, this is too good to be true. Gave it to him for Christmas and he loved it. It's been about 5 yrs and he still uses it. :lmao:

Holy cow, that's so cool! It looks fantastic!

This year I bought my brother a ghost tour in a nearby town. He is fascinated with ghosts but also scared of them. I can't wait to see if he actually goes!

I also got my son sessions at an indoor surfing wave where you do the boogie boarding on a simulated ocean. He loved doing this at the water park and now he can do it indoors in the winter!

My brother sent me bacon one year. I ask for it every year now

he smokes a lot of stuff on his own and it was the BEST I have ever eaten!
