-that the giftee actually wanted and/or loved. Mine is what I gave to my sister-in-law last year (and most probably this year also).

She absolutely loves Big Boy hamburgers (a restaurant still here in Michigan, but there were also ones in California where she grew up). They live in Virginia now where there is also an absence of Big Boy restaurants.

Last year I bought a half dozen Big Boy hamburgers, froze them, and sent them to her by mail. She was suprised and delighted and has hinted this year that that was her favorite present last year.

So, anyone else give someone something unique or strange that they wanted or really liked?

That's pretty cool. I didn't know Big Boy was still in business.

There used to be one near us but that went out of business ages ago...I had the impression the entire chain went out.

I'm the one that usually recieves "weird" gifts. I love ****erries and they used to be hard to find. My aunt would get me a box for Christmas. I loved it!!!

Similar story here. My BIL loves Cinnabon they are in Manitoba we are in Ontario.

2 boxes of Cinnabon = 25.00
shipping overnight = 80.00 We wanted them to be fresh for Christmas

We won't be doing that again but he really LOVED them and it makes a great story to laugh at every year.

My brother used to eat a TON of ketchup as a kid, he put it on everything.

One year my Aunt got him a gallon size jug of ketchup. The kind they have at restaurants with the pump. He was about 12-13 and he loved it. The whole family had a good laugh and he actually used that thing.

As kids, our parents used to always get us a "gag gift". My sister would get those jumbo sized jar of dill pickles (she could live on those), my brother would get a big ole bucket of peanuts and I would get a big pack of peppermint patties. Christmas would NOT be the same without these. :santa:

Now each year for my boys, I get them each one of those big Hershey kisses and they're saying the same thing.....Christmas just wouldn't be the same.

My family realized growing up that my favorite presents were always food related. Sure video games and stuff were fun and clothes were useful but nothing matched food.

Now I will get those arrangements with expensive fruit and chocolates, or a very expensive pie or some some other food item.

Gift certificates to my favorite restaurants are the norm.

Small gifts involved Deer Jerky, a strange hot sauce or something similar.

If some member of the family refuses to buy me actual food; food related items are common. Last year I got a blender and fondue set!

My theory was is that, with a toy, a kid will only play with a it a few times a week. You were an outfit once every few weeks? But food... you eat 3-5 times a day!

FYI, 6'6" 240lbs...

I would love to get pickles as a present-lol. I did jokingly ask my sil for mounds bars after she mentioned how much she enjoyed her hamburger last year. I actually hope she sends me some, for some reason I have a hard time finding them.

My family drew names for the grandchildren and then had a relatively small spending limit per child. This made for some incredibly lame and unwanted presents from my aunts. One year when I was in my early teens, my aunt got me a small wheel of gouda cheese, a couple boxes of "fancy" crackers and a bag of M&Ms. It was my all-time favorite "aunt present." It was the first time I actually owned my own food other than candy.

would my 'survivalist' towels count?

when i was opening my wedding gifts several visiting relatives gasped and laughed when they saw the 1/2 dozen bath towels a non local relative sent. apparantly he was into stockpiling supplies and had the habit of making his purchases through some kind of survivalist auctions. they reccognized the towels as being from a large purchase he had made and had claimed they could survive 'anything' (including government overthrows and nuclear anniliation)

the towels were not unattractive or unusual looking-just looked like standard burgundy colored medium quality stuff you'de buy at jc pennys or such.

at the time i did'nt love them, but i appreciated them. today i am in awe of them-i celebrate my 19th anniversary in a few months, and 3 of those towels are still used on a regular basis. whatever those suckers are made of they have held up, retained their color, shape and thickness (comparable to a new towel)

Every year, my mom gets me Frische's Tarter sauce ( the sauce on the Big Boy), and cans of skyline chili.

Some weird gifts I've gotten--A gift bag full of Dobie pads, and another full of bandaids, gauze, and other first aid supplies.

I have a friend whos aunt gave all the teen girls-disposable douche:scared:

I am going to assume this is Boo Berries cereal, right?? They sell this at our Super Target, $1.99/box too. DS14 loves Frankenberry cereal.

DS17 usually gets a big box of Slim Jim's for Christmas (from Sam's club).

one year my mom gave me an industrial size jar of marinated artichoke hearts:love::love:. it had to hold 3 or 4 pounds.

one year she gave my kids a half gallon sized jar of marichino cherries:scared: kids loved it-i hated it. those suckers stain your skin-and then you end up looking like some freaky circus clown with a wicked red ring around your mouth:scared1: i did not know until we received this wonderful gift that the shelf live of refridgerated marichino cherries is MONTHS AND MONTHS:sad2:

One year my SIL gave all the cousins a box of character band-aids. They were all around 4-7 years old. You would have thought they struck gold. :lmao: DD would only use her "special" bandaids for "special" cuts.:rotfl2:. I think she had that box for about 7 years.

Last year my friend put 12 rolls of scotch tape in her 5yo son's stocking. She said that's all he wanted to play with, lol!

LOL I know when my boys were younger I used to fill up their stockings or Easter baskets with all kinds of stuff like that. Their own bandaids, toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, small deodorants, etc. And their bandaids were always their favorite.

I know last Christmas I put a 97cent package of 10 Butterfingers into my DS12's stocking. You would have thought I bought him the world. Never mind the bazillion dollars I spent on the gifts, all it took was a measely 97 cents to satisfy him. LOL Now he says that all he wants in his stocking this year are Butterfingers and Whoppers. Works for me.

My nieces 4th birthday is next week. I asked her what she wanted and she told me a watermelon. :joker: I asked her again on different occassions and each time she says a watermelon. So I bought one of those personal sized watermelons, found a nice box, a little tissue paper, wrapped it up and put a fancy bow on top. Her party is Saturday, so I can't wait to see her reaction.:rotfl:

I did get her some real gifts as well, I'm not that mean.

My sister once got a big container of French's Mustard from my aunt and uncle for Christmas. One of those big gallon jugs. She always eats mustard and rye bread sandwiches and they thought it would make her happy

When DD18 was little, I wrapped up the Wonder crustless bread for her for Christmas because she asked for it (and never got it) every time we went to the grocery store.

No one else was allowed to eat HER bread! She loved it.

On her Christmas list this year, she put down "love" as one of the items she wanted. I'm wrapping up Fruity Pebbles because she told me, when she was younger, that Fruity Pebbles are love. :rotfl:

Every year, she tries to stump me with her list to see how I make her wishes happen. She's a little nuts just like her mom!

This is a gift basket I made for my brother one year as a gag gift. A little backstory-- we worked together one summer on a marketing tour. He loves sales and was used to these things; I was newly unemployed and needed a job, so he hired me. Normal marketing tours usually promote one item or one family of items from one manufacturer...ours promoted SEVENTEEN. It was all stuff related to grilling and the chief piece of the display was a monstrosity that weighed 1500 pounds and had to be lowered via a special lift that it barely fit onto, so every morning during set up there was the distinct possibility that one or both of us could have been seriously hurt or killed. Good times. Combine that with the fact that a lot of our grilling was done during the peak of the summer months under a tent where temperatures routinely reached in excess of 115 degrees AND the fact that my normally very easygoing brother tended to turn into the boss from hell when he got stressed out (which was most of the time) and it's a wonder we lasted 4 months. Grr.

But so anyway, I made him a gift basket of some of the paraphernalia from the tour. I thought it was hilarious, but I don't know if he found it as funny as I did.

Last year I gave my parents and their spouses a bundle of 25 huggable hangers....they are the best thing ever invented...I had to laugh as the guys at work asked my step-dad what he got for christmas and he said he got hangers..it was funny because he said he thinks they felt sorry for him:rotfl:
