My dad said his family lived in the Vancouver, WA area for a brief period during WWII. I'm not sure how old he was, age 4 or 5 I'd guess because he has some memories but was pre-school-age. I have no idea what brought my grandfather out that way, so far from home, but I had the idea it had something to do with the public works projects getting people back to work after the Depression. :confused3

most likely, I know my mom moved off the "farm" during those years while her dad worked in Duluth, the junior high I went to was the one he helped build as part of a WPA job.

So a scary thing happened today, well at least I thought it was scary. I was vacuuming the floor when I hear this horrible loud baby cry. I ignore it but it cries and cries for several minutes so I try to locate where the sound is coming from. I spot a baby in a stroller in the backyard of my neighbour across the alley way. The baby is all alone just sitting there crying. Nobody comes. The baby stops crying after about five minutes, maybe less but not much. So for an hour I panic, not sure if someone is home with the baby or if the baby has been abandoned or maybe the baby's mom has collapsed. Dh says I can't call the police because it hasn't been very long. So I wait for almost TWO hours and baby is still in the stroller kicking it's feet, fortunately it was bundled up. I decide something is very wrong so I'm about to call the police when someone comes adn takes the baby and stroller in the house.

I am so happy the baby is not outside anymore but it really frightened me. I don't understand why someone would put there baby outside in a stroller and then leave. And it was weird because the stroller was sitting facing the back door, almost like the baby was having a time out.
Time outs are supposed to be measured in the age of the child: a one-year-old's time out should last no longer than a minute, a 5yo's 5 minutes, etc. But two hours is very excessive, my gosh!

I wonder if the parent was giving him/herself a time-out. We were told in a parenting class that when you reach the point where you just really want to hit something, put the baby in the crib and walk out. The baby is in a safe place, and this will give you a chance to calm down until you can safely deal with the baby again. Still, we're talking MINUTES, not hours.

I know that in GB and probably in other parts of Europe, it's common to leave a baby in a stroller out on the street while a parent goes into a restaurant or shop. I can't imagine doing that, but apparently it's standard practice over there, and that's why the little McCann children being left alone in a hotel room while their parents had dinner was considered extremely negligent on the parents' part, but not in Europe.

I honestly have no idea if they'd consider leaving a bundled, strapped in screaming child outside for two hours negligent? :confused3

Now that would be funny, and she'd deserve it! Her parents would call, either all shocked because they weren't told first, or relieved that they're finally making it legal. :rotfl2:

You wanna know the stupid part? I thought I'd escaped April Fools jokes for another year because April 1st was yesterday... DH called this morning and wished me a happy April Fools Day, and I said, "*&$# ! Is that today???" :lmao:

:thumbsup2 Good one!

I said what my mom said to me, I asked him, "What do you think?"
He said, "I don't think he's real, I think you and Daddy give me presents." I said of course we gave him presents, and so do grampa and gramma, uncles and aunts, etc.

He said, "No, I mean I think the presents from Santa are really from you." I asked why he thought that, and he said kids at school were telling him Santa wasn't real and it was really parents.

I said, "Wow. Well, I suppose there's one way to find out. If you don't believe in Santa, I suppose you wouldn't get any more presents..."

He suddenly said, "I believe in Santa!" :rotfl2:
Hmmm... We have never pushed the Santa thing with Alex. I honestly dont know if he believes or not.. When he was little, we would have CHristmas at my parents house, and hid his gifts there until Christmas morning. So he just assumed that ALL his gift were from Grandma and Grandpa!:rotfl2: :rotfl2:
:scared1: Very scary and sad.:guilty:
I've heard that child rearing is different in other countries, leaving a baby (bundled up) in a carriage outside while the mum is inside having tea or shopping is very commonplace. The shops aren't big enough to accomodate the carriages inside.
In the news a few years ago,a lady visiting from another country did that in the US and got arrested for child endangerment.
As well she should have! I am CRAZY about stuff like that, and I would have called the cops the minute I saw a baby outside. But again, I am CRAZY about that stuff. Really, I freak out if I see a kid not strapped into a car seat.

I am SO tired! We went to the bouncy place today and had SO much fun!:cool1: Mikalah wouldnt go on any of the toys, which we knew would happen, but hopefully she will warm up to it. I went on the slide with Alex... and I almost had a stroke just climbing up the thing! Those are NOT made for big ole fat mamas!:rotfl2: We had tons of fun... dh and I played with Alex, and watched Mikalah troll the room in a Cozy Car. We are SO going back tomorrow! My thighs are BURNING!!!:lmao: :lmao:

:thumbsup2 Sounds like fun. We had something like that in Gilbert (for a bday party) and it was a blast :cool1:

It was! Even dh got up there and played. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Oh yeah - I know when we went at first DH was hesitant, and asked if it was ok if he got on them (as if he were too old), then all the other adults threw off their shoes (they had been there a lot), and then he was running around wild for a good hour :lmao:
