Hi,

I'm booked to go for 2 weeks in Florida in October. I'll be going with my DH and our two kids DD 2 years and DS 4 months. It will be their first trip. I've been lots of times so this time were happy to take it slow round the parks. I've been before with my sister when she was 3 months and it was fairly easy because she slept most of the time. I thought my DS would be the same. He's only 7 weeks old at the moment and on formula. He's had to be put on lactose free formula and medication for colic. Even so he cries the majority of the day. My DD has also just reached the terrible two's and plays up. Recently a few days out weve had have been a nightmare.

We've paid for our holiday already but have until the end of the month before we lose money if we make changes. I really want to go to Florida but am worried a 9 hour flight and two kids playing up may be a nightmare holiday. I've thought about postponing the holiday until next May when DD will be nearly 3 and DS 1. I'd like to think by 4 months my son would be a lot better but i can't be sure.

Has anyone else taken two kids this ages to Florida and found it ok? Would you do it again with kids that age or was it a nightmare?

Thanks

i've taken kids at all ages including that age to WDW and they were fine - but they were also fine at home, without any issues...

i don't know what to advise you to do....if they're acting up now, presumably they'll continue to act up also at WDW...

Just one thing to bear in mind is the weather.
May for the past few years have been rainy, lots of rides closing down and its not much fun in the rain.
October is still a few months away, things may calm down a lot by then.
I would like to think that the attractions will distract both your children and keep them occupied. :)

I have a disabled child and days out in the UK are a struggle, however at Disney world although we have the same struggles it just seems so much easier. :goodvibes

I can't comment on Florida holidays with children but I did have a baby with colic - you have my sympathy. She cried non-stop. All I ever seemed to be doing was pacing around with her, trying to pacify her. Having said that, the colic disappeared by 12/13 weeks. I have also had the 'terrible twos', so I feel your pain ;)

I wouldn't wait until the children are 'perfectly behaved' until you go to WDW, as if I waited for that, we would never go!:rotfl:

I would think 'to hell with it' and just go, but it's your decision. Good luck. x

I've been with DD 22 months and it was a great age to go..but I only had her.

Alot of people say going with a baby is easier than a newly mobile 1 yr old.

May is hotter than October but we found crowds ok - we also loved the flower and garden festival. Our fave time is October though.

We have taken a 9 month and a 2 year old, no getting away from the fact that the flights can be hard. Plan well and pack well, you have to look after them regardless of where you are, so you may as well be in Disney! Any in-laws or outlaws going with you? Taking other family can really help spread the load!

We took twins last year at 23 months and again this year be just under three and yes its hard work but it was so worth it, they loved it

The plane was hard but they slept for a few hours there and most of the way back, i had snacks and new toys all packed but they sat and watched the tvs

I'll put it bluntly : there'll always be a "good reason" to postpone or cancel a trip

You may have all the best reasons to think about postponing, you might eventually find out in a few month that you have an equal amount of reasons to postpone again, just because kids will be kids and they have loads of "fun" in store when it comes to getting sick. Booking a trip with a toddler is always placing a bet on the future.
whatever issues you face now, you'll face them wether you be in the UK or in Florida.
basically the only chance you're taking is that everything turns out fine in the end.

Anyway that would be my standpoint.
Furthermore I think that October is more enjoyable and managable than May.

you still have 3 months to prepare.
DS used to have colics, he had to stay in the hospital at some point.
It was traced back to the amount of air he sucked in while he fed. Then, almost by accident we saw Tommy Teepee's closer to nature bottles (very hard to find in France, only 2 resellers in a 50 miles radius at that time) and colics were gone the next day... (not implying my case has anything in common with yours)
So you see, sometimes it's just an adjustment, and kids can be as hard to predict as florida weather.

hope you have a great vacations, whichever date you choose to go.

We took our two daughters, when they were exactly the same ages as yours will be in October.

We didnt have the same problems which you have described, but its hard to say how the kids will behave in 3 months time.

I personally would take the chance and still go. Typically Colic doesnt last for months on end, and if you can put steps in place before you go then maybe some of the "upset" could be prevented.

As someone else said, if you wait for them to behave themselves all the time, you could be waiting a lifetime:)

If you go out shopping etc does baby still cry? Mine always settled in the pram, because of the constant movement.

DD (now 4) has been at all ages including during the terrible twos and she was always good in Disney as there is so much to see and do - I am sure you will be fine.

As to the colic never had that issue but if you are stressed on the flight it will make it worse and 9 hours in a confined space...

At the end of the day you know your children best and if you would be happier postpone - Disney will still be there.

Thank you for all your replies. I think we may just stick with October and hope the kids are better by then - I can only hope :-)

I am going in October too. I'll swap you your colicky baby and terrible two toddler for my 3 girls;)
