Unsigned Local Bands

I know there's a few other DIS'ers out there who have found good local bands that do original material... Share them with the rest of us here!

The criteria:

They have to be an original band, no cover bands please. (A band with mostly all original material who throws in a single cover is acceptable--even the mighty Metallica has recorded covers :teeth:

)

They can be any format of music.

They don't "have" to be local to you, although I suspect most will be.

They can be on an indie label, no major label artists (unless they are signed but haven't released yet.)

Let me ask my daughters. They are into the local music scene her in Miami and are friends with a lot of the band members.

how about the Knights of Crisis....they are my husband's band. They are all members of the Knights of Columbus and all in their midlife crisis (well, maybe not their drummer but he is expecting his first child and soon will be!

At least us wives can say we "sleep with the band (or at least just one member!)" and we know where our husbands are- they are so loud you can't miss them!

Hi Anne

Check out www.goodingband.com They have been together for quite a while (10 years?), have a good local rep, some good original stuff, and get some airplay. I haven't heard them since last summer, but my DDs (22) heard them twice this weekend and were favorably impressed.

The Damon Fowler Group, they are a great blues rock band.

I used to work in one of the bars they played in when they were first starting out (and would have otherwise been to young to be in the bar :rotfl:

), and I can tell you not only are they extremely talented, they are a great group of guys.

They're on Rykodisc, kind of hovering between indie and big time.

If Elf Power doesn't qualify for this thread, I also recommend Ceiling Fan (also, Athens, GA)

Well, here's a few of my "finds"...

The first one I'm cheating a little. They are signed to Atlantic, but haven't released a CD yet, although Atlantic's had them out on three tours already!

I don't know if these guys technically fit your criteria because they have released some CD's on their own. I think they have signed with Sony but don't know if they have released any CD's under that label yet.

These guys are amazing, especially their bass singer, what a VOICE. We have been to their Christmas concerts for the past few years and they are hilarious in person. Our kids LOVE seeing these guys.

They are a good friend's cousin's band and they are awesome. I have one of their CDs and have heard them live. They do an occasional cover, but have a ton of original stuff.
