My family and I are driving to Disney and I have seen some posts on this board saying that there are alot of unsafe places to stop in on I 95. Does anyone know where these are? Or does anyone know where the safe places are if you are come down from Ohio??

If you're driving from Ohio, have you looked at I-75 or I-77? Those look to be a shorter drive for you as I-95 is WAY east of Ohio.....

I77 dead ends at Columbia, SC-you take I95 from the intersection of I26 in SC to I4 in Daytona. Have drived that route many times and cannto think of an "unsafe" exit. If looking for places to stay-Brunswick GA is good.

One thing I learned when I moved south was not to use rest stops after dark. Up north, rest stopps are the best place to stop at night as they are well lite and attended. However, many resstops in the south are not well lite and not attended after dark. We usually pick an exit with several hotel and stop there to take a break, etc.

I would be careful stopping at any exit or rest area coming down from Ohio. I dont think you just have to worry about I-95, (I've never had a problem with I-95) any stop along your way could be dangerous or unsafe. I-95 is my local highway that my family uses. Just make sure all your stops are well lighted and that there is a bunch of places all around, hotels, restaurants, gas stations etc....

I've never really heard of any unsafe places on 95. Like the others said, just make sure it's a well lit one (if at night) and I would prefer if they had nighttime security. Any rest stops can be dangerous, especailly after dark.

We are taking 77 to 26 to 95 I believe. Everyone said that is the quickest. Thanks for the advice. We usually don't ever stop at rest stops. Just stop to get gas and eat and maybe stop for the night.

I am in Savannah and we go down twice a year. Have not heard of any unsafe spots. We always stop at the big exits, just to be safe.

I drive from NYC to Fla all the time usually by myself never had a problem.

We stayed in Brunswick last summer on our way from PA--it was nice there.

We did make a stop just north of Jacksonville one time, personally, I did not think that was the best area. Very dirty and some unfriendly folks. DSIL and DBIL spent the night near there one time and they did not care for that area either, hotel was dirty. Sorry I don't know the exact exits of those places, just that they were near Jacksonville.

We have also stayed in Virginia and South Carolina. As long as you find a nice clean hotel (I don't recommend sleeping in the car at rest stops ;) ) I think you'll be fine.
