Unrequested Room Upgrade

Just wondering- I know you can request a room upgrade at check-in and sometimes you might get it. Sometimes I ask for an upgrade particularly during a slower season. However, anyone checked-in with something like a parking lot view booked and gotten something completely different. For example one time we had booked the least expensive room at Beach Club and wound up with a room overlooking the water and the Boardwalk. What a shock to think we were going to see woods or the parking lot and wind up with a great view. Another time at Downtown Disney Hilton had a basic room booked and wound up with some kind of suite- four beds and two bathrooms.

Dh and I booked a standard view king room at AKL this past fall. At check-in, we were told that no king rooms were available...so they were upgrading us to a savannah view room. We had an excellent view, too.

We always book standard view. But I can't remember a time I was ever given a parking lot view. We almost always get a better "view" for the standard price.

Not that I care about view. I mean we hardly spend anytime in the room. I could care less if I can only see the parking lot from my room, because I am never looking out the window. :D

We checked into WL one time. I was pregnant and DD4 was 2. We were there for her birthday. We paid for a standard room or something. The only room they had at early check in was a smoking room and we said that we would rather wait until a non-smoking room was available since I was pregnant and didn't want to be exposed to it.

Well--a little pixie dust and we were complimentary upgraded to a woods view (we could see the fireworks through the trees :)) so that we would have a room immediately.

We had checked in early--and were prepared to not have a room right away, but it was nice of them to do this.

We've never been upgraded. We've always received exactly what we've booked except for once when we paid to upgrade at the WL during checkin.

Reserved 3 rooms at WL last August using my AP. When I checked in all three rooms were in a row and they were Courtyard view! A nice surprise.

Checked in at the GF in July of '99 with conference rate of ~$200 a night. Expected a parking lot view. Was very pleasantly surprised when the CM apologized and said that there weren't any of the conference rooms ready yet, would I object to a lagoon view with a dormer? Not knowing any better I said, "well, okay, if that's all you have right now." Imagine our surprise when we walked into this spacious room with a vaulted ceiling and a view of the Poly off our private enclosed balcony and soft terry robes for DH and I and two little bitty ones for the girls :) We've been spoiled for deluxes ever since!

OKW, 2003... 1 bedroom villa to 2 bedrooms. Kids had the time of their lives!

I believe that faxing in a request that gave them many options had something to do with it. We really didn't ask for much, and received a very nice surprise.

We were just at the Yacht Club over New Year's eve. Some sort of Disney diety must have been smiling on us, because not only were we offered a rate of $229/night (no code, just an offer from the CM we talked to), but we were then upgraded when we arrived to a lake view room. We had a picture perfect view of Epcot/Illumination and the Boardwalk. Not bad for peak season!

I don't know how or why it happened, but it was certainly nice!

We were upgraded from Standard to Lagoon View at the YC last Nov.We did not ask for it at all. I just stated that since there was work being done outside part of the building would it be possible to be at a part where this was not happening. She said yes and then told us she was upgrading us to lagoon View. She then called up to our room to ask if we liked the room!!!!
We could not believe it. They are wonderful at the YC!!!

The only time I was upgraded was at AKL-- reserved a standard room, and got a Savannah view. I hear a lot of stories about upgrades at AKL... only problem was, it was the last room in the resort-- the resort looks pretty small, but it's not after a long day at the parks when you have the last room in the resort :-)

We paid for 4 rooms standard view at YC and got 3 with lakeview in '98. We had view of the lake and the BW. The 4th was a view of the quiet pool, so not sure if that was considered standard view or not. In '99 we paid for standard view for BWI for 2 rooms and while it was not a view of the parking lot, it was a courtyard view, so again not sure if it was an upgrade.

In 2001 we paid for standard view at Dolphin and was upgraded to lakeview with a balcony. When we stayed at AKL in June 2003, we also paid standard view and were upgraded to savannah view for free as well.

Last June we paid standard at POR for 2 rooms and had a view of the river. However, since they have outside corridors, it really doesn't matter since we always keep the drapes closed.

I never requested any of these upgrades in all of these reservations. My only requests were non-smoking and connecting rooms (when we had more than 1 room). All of these rooms were booked with an AP discount, except BWI (summer code, which was less than the AP discount at that time) and Dolphin (teacher's discount).

It's been almost 20 years ago but we took our delayed honeymoon (got married 8/86) in June of 1987. We scrimped and saved to honeymoom at WDW and we were just young kids (21 and 23). We showed up at the Contemporary (not many onsite hotels to choose from in those days!) for our garden wing room and were upgraded to concierge!!! Imagine us - two poor, young, kids from the sticks on the 14th floor!!! Don't have any clue how it happened and we were even to young and dumb to use too many of the fringes but we were the cat's meow for 8 glorious days! We're hoping to spend anniversary #20 at the Grand Floridian next year. I'll be secretly hoping for another upgrade to concierge then!!!

Oooops... it just feels like 25 some days

We are staying at CBR This October (slow season) We have the Martinique with preffered room/view. Is there an upgrade from that? ie suites,...

Excuse me for being naïve; do you “ask” for a complimentary upgrade? If you do ask, what do you say? “Please, do you have any upgrades available????” Would not they think I was requesting an upgrade for an additional charge? I will be happy with any room I receive but in all my years of traveling, most hotel stays have had a view of the air-conditioner, parking lot or freeway… It would be a pixie pleasure to receive, just once, an upgrade. :D

I have never asked and we have never been upgraded in our last 4 visits. Once was even our 20th Anniversary trip. Last visit I decided I was tired of hoping for an upgrade and booked lagoon view concierge at the Polynesian. I couldn't wait to sit on our patio and enjoy the view of the castle at night when the kids went to bed. Imagine my surprise when we were given a room with a hedge in front of it that was so tall you couldn't see the castle when sitting of the patio (you had to stand)! I have to say I was very disappointed since I thought I covered all my bases. I have come to the conclusion that the pixie dust just seems to miss me.

I have stayed at the Contemporary 4 times. All 4 times we have booked a standard room and gotten a garden view room. We stayed at the Dolphin and booked a standard view room and was up graded to a first floor room facing the lake with a patio. That room is usually the same price as a balcony room. We stayed at the French Quarter last month and booked a standard view room and got a garden view. We have been very lucky.

AKL has upgraded up to Savannah view on two occasions from a standard room. Neither time we asked for it, they just offered and said I hope your son enjoys the animals.

At BC we were upgraded from a standard room to a Junior Suite, since it was the only room available with a King bed and it was our Anniversay.

We also got a phone call two weeks before one of our trip offfering an upsell to the BWI for $99, we paid $84 a night at Coronado. Of course we took it.

So, I guess that pixie dust falls on us quite a bit.

Last May I booked a standard room at the Dolphin. My only request was a king bed. When I checked in I was put on the concierge floor with a wonderful view of the boardwalk.
