Unreliable parents

This kind of stuff happens to us all the time. I guess it's universal. There are a whole bunch of adults out there relying on us to raise their children. Glad we're up to the task, lol! Keep doing what's best for the children, guys, someday you will look back and be glad you did it.

I think this thread is most surprising to me, how many of us are doing / have done it.

What a shame. :sad2:

I think this thread proves that it's true what they say: "It takes a village to raise a child."

I have been going through this kind of thing since my oldest ds was around 11 (he's 27 now). Seems like my kids always had at least one friend that didn't have any parents to speak of.

Oldest ds's best friend lived with us for 2 years because his mom broke up with her boyfriend and couldn't afford to keep the lights on in her trailer. She moved in with her mother. She left her 12 and 13 year old sons to fend for themselves.

One of younger ds's friends was always just left to his own accord. During high school a bunch of the kids were at a party, this boy included. His brother showed up and they got to "play" fighting. His brother hit him hard in the ribs, he thought they were broken and he could hardly breathe. Instead of letting ds and another boy take him to the hospital, he walked around 2 miles home to his mom. She yelled at him for waking her up. He walked to our house so that ds could take him to the hospital!

DD (she's 11) has two friends whose mother cannot be depended on to pick them up any where--she is always late. She leaves these young girls alone in the middle of the night to go to an all night gym.

Wow, 2 generations of great parents. Not only did the mom abandon the kids, but grandma took in her daughter and left her grandkids homeless.

And we wonder why each generation of young adults have more and more problems. :sad2:
