Unreasonable? Vent!

I know that I am blessed for being able to afford help weekly - and I've encouraged many people I know to spend the same $60 to save their sanity - it's helped me in more ways than I can count.

I know exactly what you're saying! I used to have a house cleaner and then I became a SAHM. My house has not been so clean since, LOL!

Personally, I would let this week "slide" and then next time you are on vacation for two cleanings have her skip one of them. I used to do that with my house cleaner when I was gone for more than 2 weeks and she was fine with it. We also had an "agreement" and no contract but we both knew that sometimes "life" gets in the way on both sides of the agreement.

I know you wanted your house clean today, but it's not going to happen so you'll have to fall back on plan "B" and for this week your house will look like mine :rotfl2:.

When did she tell you she wouldn't be coming today?

When I had a cleaning person, with advance notice, I could tell them I was going on vacation and not have them come that week (and not pay). I would tell them at least a week in advance.

I would expect the same kind of notice if they were not going to clean my house unless it was an emergency.

I agree with T&B

You should have been given more notice.

It seems reasonable to me, but I agree she should give you notice - when did she tell you?

In turn, you should be able to give her notice and cancel a cleaning as well.

Have you read "the nanny diaries"? You sound kind of like one of the characters. Poor thing. :rotfl2:

I don't care who the OP is what the occupation of the person whom did not show up was.

But to casually blow off a client is never acceptable.

If she didn't provide notice and then didn't adequately plan for the holiday--that would be the cleaning lady's problem and not the OP.

Ability to afford a cleaning service is irrelevant. She's dealing with a "professional" who should act like one.

If I read that right, the owner and 3 girls clean for 60$??? Thats a shockingly low price. I wish I could find someone for that kind of money, and would definitely hold on to them if I did!

Perhaps in my pre-coffee fog I've missed it, but I still don't see where the OP has said how much notice she had that the cleaning ladies wouldn't be there yesterday. If it was a week or more notice, I don't see any problem at all. If she was just told yesterday, then I can see where she might be unhappy, but I personally don't see it as a huge deal if she is otherwise happy with the work they do.

Yeesh!! I've read it too and I don't think the OP is quite that bad! :duck:

I wouldn't go that route. I was going to hire someone for a *cheap* price.

You get what you pay for.

Less than hour before she was due--she called to say she was overwhelmed b/c her parents were in the hospital. I said fine and never hired her.

It may be heartless--but she didn't have an emergency--her parents were in the hospital for a bit...and she decided after she cleaned her home that she didn't want to come. I didn't appreciate the short notice that she gave when she should have already been en route to my home.

I think sometimes that cleaning ladies--especially those who have it as their own business--write off customers so easily.

I wasn't steamed or anything. But I did decide that I wasn't going to wonder every week if she would show up and opted to unhire her.

I'm guessing maybe she was told on Monday :confused3 .

Just a guess--based on when she posted.

If she was told last week--then probably not too big a deal.

For cleaning lady to wait until this week and say "Oh by the way"--is unprofessional.

I'm sure she would have had to give her bi's and tri's notice that she was coming on a non-regular day.

No flames from me. Good call on your part.

I never did hear--when did the cleaning person cancel?

And I don't understand why some people are coming down hard on the OP. We can all choose to spend our money as we like--think about how some of us like lots of trips to WDW and others look at us like we're crazy. :rotfl:

I bet if the cleaning lady decided not to show up in their hotel room on, they'd be a bit upset. Not everyone can afford a hotel. They should be greatful they can just get one. ;)

First a warning. The following is just a joke and probably in poor taste. But I couldn't resist. Remember it's a joke....

All people whose vents that begin with "My cleaning ladies..." really have no reason to vent.

Anyway for the real subject. Yep it's poor planning on thier part. I sure hope they're not charging you for this week.

Bill I thought the OP Post was a joke. :rotfl2: To have such problems! :lmao:

I don't get why everyone is jumping on the OP so much. It's not like she has a live-in butler or maid. I imagine that the $60 is for one of the three girls or owner to come in. I don't think the four travel in a pack. For $60 a week I would get a cleaning person and I certainly am not "well off". But the value in that for a full time working family is priceless.

What is $60? A dinner or two out? Lunch out weekly at work? One morning coffee from starbucks for two weeks?

I am certain that the OP has more worries in her life. If this was me I would probably post the same thing out of frustration and TRUST ME I have much larger worries....

So I found out from her on Wednesday (the day of my post)- when I called her to see where they were. She was about to call me to tell me she had a cancellation on Thursday to see if I wanted her to come.

I understand emergencies, I understand holidays. Wednesday was neither.

When I asked her if she had a week they all took off as vacation, she was offended. I know of many businesses who close a week or so for all their employees to take off at once, instead of one at a time. Of course, she has just taken 2 weeks off for vacation (sent the others)... and I have worked around her "forgetting" she had to travel to Ohio for a graduation and having to reschedule my day. I've worked with her coming at different times of the day on Wednesday, even though we agreed on first thing in the am.

As far as the $ - this price is the norm for this area - not a "deal" by any means.

Anyone else enjoy luxuries - massages, weekend trips, manicures, pedicures, poker nights, on-site stays at Disney (haha), rounds of golf, pay people to do your laundry, got tix to football, basketball, baseball games? I don't do those. I have housecleaners instead. It's worth it, too.

Not a good way to do business. She makes the rules up as she goes along. I don't blame you for considering other options.

You shouldn't have to defend yourself. You were venting. You asked for opinions. You have that right....like everyone else.

I'd just like to have a maid. Mine really bites! (ME) ha ha
