Unplugging someone from your hook up

We had an incident on our way down to WDW and I've been meaning to post to ask opinions about it. Finally sitting down to do it...

I had made reservations at Bryn Mawr resort in St. Augusting, FL a few weeks in advance. We rolled the campground at about 10:30 at night. There was a registration envelope waiting for us in a folder outside the office (which was closed), so there's no doubt that they were expecting us.

At our spot, there was an extension cord plugged into our hook up spot. DH just unplugged it and plugged ours in. He told me all this after the fact... I might have followed the cord to see where it went to let them know that they were in our spot. I might not have, though, as it was almost 11 pm.

It wasn't the camper right next to us, as it was clear that they were plugged into their own correct hook up. It was a camper at least two spots away - and you couldn't see that far in the dark.

A half hour or so later, we heard someone poking around outside by the hookup, and then heard them reeling in their cord. We were already in bed, otherwise we might have gone out to talk with them. Probably not, though - I know I would have been afraid of being yelled at.

Was DH increadibly rude to unplug without a warning, or would you have went over that late at night to let them know you were unplugging their camper, even though knocking would probably wake them up? It was very quiet - it seemed like the whole campground was asleep.

Or, was it rude of the other campers to plug into our hook up? They would have had to go quite a ways, it's not like they had confused ours for theirs.

Or should the campground have checked the site to make sure nobody else was hooked up to it before they closed down for the night?

Any thoughts on this? We're relatively new campers, so any advice on camping etiquette would be appreciated :)

I would have had no qualms about unplugging it regardless of the time of day. :thumbsup2

I would have unplugged it, and probably kept to cord as well! :lmao:

It's actually pretty common to get to a site and the electric doesnt work,,,it's happened to us several times,,ALWAYS CHECK TO SEE IF YOU HAVE ELECTRIC before sett'n up !!

Either change spots or holler at the office about it.
What they did was stupid.

Yep, I have this little electric tester that I plug into a campsite pole before I plug my camper in to make sure I don't fry my camper. If all the lights come on correctly, I then plug in, if not I find a different site, or find somebody to fix it.

:thumbsup2 to all of the above. DH and I would have done the same. Probably would have followed the cord and asked if they'd misplaced something. KFK is not always fun and games, mostly, but not always. Don't like that kind of stuff. (They may have only wanted extra outlets. My parents had that happen with the water spout once. The neighbor got angry because mom asked her to remove her hose from their spout. Mom handled that quickly!)

Lathamary, your hubby did good! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

You go to your tool box and get the wire cutter out and cut the cord:scared1: as many times as you can.:cool1: Then you get your lawn chair and that 1.000.000.000.000 spot light and wait.

,lol, I think I am afraid to go camping with you around now:rotfl: , It could have been an emergency but either way I would not wanted to stick around and find out especially if you did what you said. ;)It would be like that movie "lake view terrace" all over again :scared:

Nice job lathamary, you really know how to start a rebel rousing thread don't ya? (you were the one who started the clothesline thread right?) Looks like another classic.

I'd expect this from Cheryl, but not Lynn ! :lmao:

Did the same thing myself at Traders Village in Grand Prairie, TX (close to Six Flags). I arrived late night, and the guy next to me had pulled through the pull through site from the wrong end & plugged into my power. (I guess he was blind & did not notice he was facing a different direction than everyone else.

Well, I knocked on his door, quietly at first, then a little louder, with no response. Then I moved to what would be his bedroom window and lightly taped on it, then knocked with no reponse. Well, I finally gave up & unplugged his cord, plugged mine in and went inside to bed. A few minutes later he emerged from his camper and started banging on my door and yelling. I opened the door, and of course he immediately started blasting me out about unplugging him and that I had some nerve to do that. I kept my calm, and pointed out he was facing the wrong way and that he had plugged into the wrong box, and that I did try to get him to the door.

Ok, this is when the big HE'S AN IDIOT light came on. He said he heard me knocking, but was not going to come to the door and that he knew he was plugged into the wrong box, but he wanted to face the other way due to the sunshine.

I told him then he should have brought enough power cord to plug into his own box & said goodnight.

The next morning, when I went in to finish my check in, he was in there ranting & raving about what I had done to him. The manager there, who I had know from previous trips, reallized he was dealing with a nut, then told him to pack his stuff up & get off the property & never come back.

It takes all kinds, but I have never seen a fellow RV'er act like that.

This thread brought back a memory of the last 4th of July GG. Someone in our group (name not used to protect the innocent) parked his truck on the site next to him while he was cooking and ended up leaving it there. Sometime that night a guy comes in and somehow manages to still get in the site. The next day he leaves a note on the truck asking if he can move it over some so he can fit. The weird thing was when the guy left in the morning he took his tt and everything then came back at night.

It never ceases to amaze me how when people do things like the pp mentioned the person who is right get's cussed out.
