Unofficial Guide Observation

Just purchased the Unofficial Guide to DCL. I am a long-time lurker on these boards (lurker sounds so ominous. It just means I like to read what you helpful folks write, and that I probably listen a little more than I talk ).

While I enjoyed flipping through an actual paperback, and there were a few interesting recommendations along the way, it was a quick read! I have learned so much from these boards, I found myself going, "Yeah, got it, know it, know it ..."

So, kudos to y'all. I'm thinking these boards are the go-to source for accurate and, more importantly, current info and tips.

P.S. The book even recommends checking out PassPorter. But my guess is aside from the planning sheets, I would probably come away with basically the same feeling.

I totally agree about these boards being a major "go to" place for the most current, helpful info. My husband and I just got back from our first ever cruise, which was also a Disney cruise, which was also our first ever Disney experience! haha! and we are not "disney freaks", either! Our awesome tablemates on the cruise (2 couples and a mother/daughter duo) were all huge Disney fans, and had all cruised before, but because of what I had read here, I ended up being the one answering questions and throwing out ideas and tips. We all got a kick out of it. By the end of the 5 day trip, the phrase "From what I've read" had become a great joke with us all.

Thanks for the review! I'm a huge fan of the Unofficial Guides but I was afraid to buy the new cruise guide because I bought the Passporter and found I already knew most of it from reading these boards. The published books are also less up to date than the boards, like still telling you to bring a power strip. I'll save my money on this one!

Exactly.

Another example: the UG says you can't purchase Rainforest Room passes in advance, when we DIS'ers know how to do that.

I find that reading the books at Barnes and nobles for excursion on other cruise lines helps more with planning especially if Disney is just starting to go to these ports.

I grew up on the Unofficial Guides for WDW when we lived in Ohio. It was so awesome to meet Len Testa, one of the authors, and provide feedback for the cruise version of the book. I think it's great for first time cruisers (and that's even if my hubby didn't give input ).

I bought the Passporter a few years ago and was very disappointed. Just my opinion.....

I feel that neither are for experienced cruisers, however.

I think it's cool that you gave feedback for the book. I enjoyed Mr. Testa's writing style, especially the humor. He seems to have an appreciation for good food, too.

I'm just listed as a waterslide tester with our daughter in acknowledgements; Scott was the feedback-giver. Regardless, yes, very cool and they are great folks. They like good food, drinks and are a hoot!!

I agree! The WDW guide is hilarious. I will probably buy the cruise guide out of curiosity and to get a good laugh.
