Unofficial Guide Error?

I recently bought the 06 version of the Unofficial Guide.

Has anyone noticed the part about Pal Mickey?

I don't know if it was a practical joke or what but the book states that Pal Mickey says that he "could get really 'baked' on a good joint right about now. Are you holding?"

It also says that if you take Mickey home, he'll still talk and such but "won't know where the hell he is"

Am I the only one that has seen these comments? Are they errors? (surely Mickey doesn't really say that, I'd hate to have to explain that to my kids) Does the Author/Publisher know these statements are in there?

(Maybe I'll buy the Passporter when it comes out instead)

It is a joke. There was a thread posted on the boards a while back about it. I have a new Pal Mickey, and he most assuredly doesn't speak of getting baked, nor does he ask where the hell he is when my daughter is serving him tea at her tea parties at home. Just a bit of levity for the geeky readers like ourselves. :)

Not sure if you caught the part about "the books states" or not, but if I understand the OP she is quoting from the actual published UOG. If this is correct, I certainly hope that this is a big mistake.

Yes, it's been discussed here before - several times. It's a joke! A funny little bit of humour for the readers. Personally, I almost wet my pants when I read it the first time. In fact, that sort of hilarious stuff is exactly the reason why I DO buy the Unofficial Guide instead of anything else. We always get the newest version, despite the fact that we don't even need a guide at all anymore. We just find it really funny and full of interesting little tidbits. It's definately great entertainment, as well as the best guide out there for getting the most out of Disney! Personally, I like a guide book that isn't afraid to poke a bit of fun at the Mouse. (Come on, does anyone out there really believe that Mickey is saying that stuff??)

I'm playing with Pal Mickey now...he's saying....

"Can't you take a joke...Ha Ha! Buy the new Unofficial Guide! It's funny! By the way, Where the hell am I!?" :rotfl2:

Not sure about the 2006 UG, but I believe the 2005 UG includes a "just kidding" after those comments.

They must have edited that disclaimer out this year.

I remember one of the UG's stating that test track would open when hell freezes over. Its a book they don't have to be politically corrector kind, and its not disney that puts it out either, just some people trying to sell a book. But that is pretty funny about how mickey would like a good joint right now.

I personally LOVED this part, this was just too perfect. One of my most favorite parts that I've read in anything since I've been researching Disney. Laugh it off, and enjoy. :flower:

I remember that line from the 2005 edition as well. That's what I like about the UG--it makes you laugh! Len, if you guys are reading this and wringing your hands ("OMG, we won't be able to sell enough books if we aren't more PC!"), all I have to say is: DON'T CHANGE A THING--PRETTY PLEASE! :sunny:

I guess maybe the 2007 UOG will need a note in the front with a sarcasm alert.

Of course it's a joke. There are several just like it sprinkled throughout the UOG -- for example, the part where it identifies "flash mountain" as an attraction. (Maybe that was the 2005 guide.)

I actually wish the book were a little more irreverent -- some of the really old versions are. But I think Bob pretty much realized pretty early on that people take Disney very very seriously.

Oh it was a joke! I thought it was a really strange thing to say! but I didn't know... :confused3

They are talking about the new Pal Rasta Mickey. He comes with stayings like "Jah Mon", "IRIE", and "Don't Drink and Drive, Smoke and Fly!". He's got a fat spliff in his hand and dreds.

Just kidding, but it would be hilarious!

Its a joke. I found that and other comments funny but they were also why I wouldn't let our 8 year old read the UG either.

BTW my favorite comment in UG was about selling softballs outside of IASM. :rotfl2:

I just bought my first UG this year and I have to admit I thought parts of it were quite funny. :rotfl: I wasn't offended but then I don't think I am as PC as I should be because something like this makes me laugh. :teeth:

Doesn't offend me either. It's all in good fun. I also love the IASW "softball" comment! :rotfl:

I just loaned my copy of the 05 book to a friend who leaves for his first trip Sunday. I told him it is THE guide book to WDW. :earsboy:

It shouldn't be softballs outside Its A Small World, they should rotate the ride in cycles. First cycle is kids with parents, just as today, second cycle is the now semi-crazed parents alone armed with paint ball markers. After this cycle they just hose it all down and run they can run kids thru again. If they caught me getting out of the boat after a trip thru there I would gladly pay a premium price to go through again with a paint ball marker.

My favorite comment was in my 1st UG guide, I think 1999, where they said, Why do we find the need to buy clothes we wouldn't be caught dead in outside of WDW....like a tie with Goofy on it......

I totally understood :rotfl2:
