Does the UG give info on all the restaurants and on how to go about making ADR's and all the info about them? The last time I went we didn't make any ADR's but it sounds from all I've read here if we don't we won't be able to get into any sit down restuarants if we don't. It's pretty overwhelming to choose all these places prior to going and I don't even know where to call to set them up or what to say. All we have thus far is our hotel reservations. I was hoping the UG would help me out with all this. Does it have good info?

The Unofficial Guide has an extensive section on both the Table Service and the Counter Service eateries. They give a description as well as an assessment of each. Each of the authors rate the restaurant, as well as a rating from the readers. We agree with most of their assessments.
I think that you are right, that now you will need to make ADR's. They also explain the process to do this.
Good Luck!

The UG is just what you need. The Passporter Guide also has sensible ratings and reviews and makes a good alternative or supplement.

Thanks to both of you! The UG for 2006 is the only one out right now for next year so that's all I have thus far and I am glad to know it will explain all this to me:)

www.touringplans.com is their website, and they have a page for Dining that definately explains things!!

Good luck, and enjoy!!

Although the UG is a great resource for details on planning, I've never agreed much with their ratings for restaurants. They seem to put the most emphasis on perceived value. One person's perception of value is different than another's when it comes to dining and I seem to perceive very differently than most of their reviewers. ;)

Actually they rate them both on pure quality of the experience alone, then also on value. They also publish each place's up or down rating as submitted by their readers. They give descriptions on what to expect. Ie "if you want a nice quiet meal, don't go here" and things like that.

Well, your post made me look at the most recent book I could find in my home...the 2004 edition. It does seem better but still...Chefs is rated better than Le Bistro, Jikos is below Boma, H&V has the same # of stars at Mama Melrose.....I think not! But this edition from 2 years ago is fairer than I remember overall.

But it still can be misleading. For GFC, it uses a part of a quote from many years ago about fried chicken and beef in pan drippings and then mentions healthier choices. I do believe it is years since the GFC offered fried chicken.

But I suppose I should look at a current edition before I criticize the UG  ....which I end up buying almost every year even as I fume about its description of the Polynesian as having rooms smaller than most deluxe resorts. :rotfl2: Hopefully that has finally been changed!

they also have reviews on here ( home page) and www.allearsnet.com and menus . the laughing place has picture reviews of some places but i forget their web address.
