hey everyone,

i have been reading about the unoffical guide to disney world, and you guys love it.

i have a question, ok maybe more

do you guys think its worth the money for me to buy it, because we are staying at the wilderness lodge, going to epcot, mgm and disney animal kingdom.. but not mk ?

also, when i was at borders the other day, i notice an unoffical guide to orlando for like 10.00 dollars.. does anyone have that one ?

what books do you guys think i should get '?

I definitely think its worth buying those unofficial guided to WDW. The information is always handy if you have a question about a park, ride or restaurant.

My family always buys the Birnbaum book (I think its the official guide book). It runs about $15-$20 dollars, and the info is VERY accurate. It covers everything: parks, restaurants, resorts, recreation, directions from places, ect.

It's very useful, and there are a lot of pictures in it, if you just want a Disney fix.. =)

I think it's definitely worth the investment to buy the Unofficial Guide to WDW. It does cover all of the WDW theme parks, not just the Magic Kingdom.

My helpful hint - Go to the library. Our library just got in the Unofficial Guide and Birnbaum for 2006. So it's free. I've been photocoying pages and writing down tips.

that guys well my birthday is coming up and i asked everyone to buy me gift cards to borders lol i read alot anyways lol

By all means, buy it! Not only is it useful, but it's a fun read!

I like Birnbaums and Passporter. I have also bought the Unoffical Guide but I find that you really don't need the current year's edition. Most of the info I found useful in that guide can be used year after year. Now Birnbaums I buy the latest edition each year we go and I bought Passporter for the first time for our last trip, but I'll probably buy the latest edition for our next trip.

I'm going to respectfully disagree with a PP. I say that you need to buy the 2006 version of whichever guidebook makes you happiest. While I do agree that a chunk of the UG is repeated year after year (after year after year :teeth: ), don't spend your money on outdated info on park specifics. There have been some pretty significant changes to stuff like tickets and EMH that older editions won't have right. And if you've never read that stuff the UG repeats every year, it's valuable information.

I am a fan of the UG series. I have loved every UG I've bought (with the exception of the DL one--stink-ola!). I happen to like their sarcasm and wit, but many don't.

I also love my new Passporter. Much cheerier if you don't like the UG's style (slightly cynical). And the pockets. . . Passporter, you complete me!

Because I'm an anal-retentive vacation planner, I've also just subscribed to TourGuideMiKE. He's probably middle-of-the-road between the happy Passporter and the cynical UG. But you have to be connected to the internet to use TGM, which doesn't help you for bedtime reading or if you are stuck in an airport somewhere killing time. Whatever you do, if you are not A-R like me, don't buy all three!! They give conflicting advice. :badpc:

Check the guides out at the library or pull up a chair at the bookstore. Determine which style feels right to you and go with that one.

There's my much-more-than two cents. . .

Yes it's worth the money! There are a lot of little details in the UG that make it well worth the $20 bucks.

Just purchased the Unofficial Guide 06 yesterday. I would hightly recommend it - only $18.99. I have used the past editions (03), yes they repeat alot, but with the addition of the new ticket pricing, EHM and daily attendance info, I would recommend it before you go. It has info on all 4 parks. Buy it and enjoy!

We also buy the UG, but for the kids we buy the kids version of the Birnbaum's . Lots of great activivties and they get to help plan. So if you have kids, do both!

I had the 2004 edition of the Unofficial Guide & as I was going through it last night, there were quite a few pages that were outdated, etc. So, I ended up ordering the 2006 edition. With all the recent pricing changes and so on, I do think it's worth buying a recent copy.

I reference it all the time!

I don't buy many books, I prefer the library, but for some reason I lost my head & bought the UOG before our first trip in 2004.
It was so informative & really educated me for an otherwise overwelming vacation! Well worth the money!

But you could check the Library or ebay. :wave2:

Love the Unoffical Guide...Definitely some funny parts that you need a sense of humor to read. I also buy the Birnbaum guide almost every year. The internet has become one of the best sources of info. I printed a ton of menus, articles and reviews off allearsnet and trip reports from mouseplanet (they make me feel like I'm in WDW) and put them in a binder.

another vote for Unofficial guide.I have the UG to WDW, UG to DL, UG to Cal with kids, Florida with kids etc etc. Also have the passporter and birbaum. UG makes an interesting read.Very cynical and funny.

Be careful buying the new year's UG in the beginning of the year. I bought the 2005 edition in early 2005 and there was incorrect information in it. There were big changes in ticket pricing that year which may have caused the problem.

But the good news is...
You can go on their website and download all the changes as they update them!
