We travel with our golf cart in the bed of our tow vechicle (2500 chevy diesel).

Was wondering if there is some location at the fort to make unloading our golf cart from the bed of the truck easier. We have ramps, but have camped at campgrounds that have what I call "little hills" that you can back the truck up to and just drive the cart off the back of the truck---no ramps.

Is there any place at the fort that we would be able to unload the cart without the ramps?

Thanks

We'd definitely bring the ramps, and we do.

NCS Tigger,

There is a small hill at the Fort that folks use for this purpose. I got a picture of it with my son in the pix for perspective. See page 2 post 29 of my trip report from last year:

Once you enter the Fort you will drive past the bus stop and horse corral (both on your right). About 50 yards past the corral is a service road to the right that goes back to some work garages. Turn onto the service road and this hill will be on your left.

It's not laid out to be THAT user friendly but it is the best option for this task. It's either that or bring the ramps.

Good luck and have fun!

1) No problem.
2) The Fort takes care of you.
3) As Boma Ed mentioned, there is a "hill' or more of a "mound".
. . . not a formal ramp or not a true dock
. . . but, just the right height for offloading from a pickup
. . . we keep it up, so it maintains the proper level

Thanks to you and Boma Ed ( the picture helped )

So, the Disney folks don't mind if you pull onto the grass to unload? DH is always so concerned about parking and getting off the paved pad because of things we've heard. Great to know about this place. Will try to unload here next week.

Let me know how this goes. I am planning on bringing my own cart down on my next trip and was wondering same thing.
Thanks

We have used that hill many a time, you still need ramps.It just makes it not as steep. We have a 2500 Dodge diesel.
BTW, last time at The Fort we were told not to use this anymore by security.

Oh my!!!! That is just my fear. He would not be happy with me, if I tell him to use this hill and then we were confronted by the security folks. The "hills" just make me feel so much better loading and unloading!

Am I reading wrong ? It sounds like this mound is there and maintained by someone for uses like this. Why would security tell you not to use it ? Can you explain here Therustyscupper ?

The mound is part of the old railroad bed. I don't think it is maintained for a ramp. Everyone uses it and you do still need your ramps. There are a few other good locations at the Fort to load/unload a GC. I'll bet it was just an over jealous security person and not a Fort policy on not using it.

Cousin Ed,

Actually the mound is not part of the railroad bed there as it ran at grade level by this point. However you may be thinking of the raised ridge that ran parallel to the main road to act as a visual buffer. You can see it in the background of the photo I linked over the left side of the hill. And this golf cart hill is a good 15 feet from where the ridge breaks to let the service road through.

If you could advise NCS Tigger of these other places to load/unload, I bet they would appreciate it.

In the event I have a great summer I may purchase a cart but most likely not. For now I am renting for our Halloween trip. But I'm sure other will appreciate the info.

TheRustyScupper

Is it still ok to use this location?

Cousin Ed

I'd love to know of any other locations to unload either without the ramps or places that make using them easier.

Thanks--Donna

The dirt road to the dam in the 300 loop has a good little hill. You drive right toward the canal....set your brakes!
Across form the 2000 loop bus stop there is a good ditch; just make sure it is not too muddy.
Across fron the 1200-1300 entrance is OK too, but I don't remember exactly where.

Thanks Cousin Ed! :thumbsup2

I learn something new every day. You got today covered for me. :cool1:

Thanks so much. We"ll check them out. We're off to the fort Thursday morning. Hopefully, DH will be able to use on of these locations.

In most if not all loops is a little hill. We've always found a place to unload. In 1600 loop by the canal is a decent hill also, you still need ramps. You'll be fine! Enjoy your trip.

The hill Bama Ed referred to in an earlier post now had wooden posts surrounding it preventing its use as a ramp. I guess Mickey decided it was not a good location for loafing and unloading carts. I'll try to get a photo posted.

Dang!

That means the quivering Fort Managers hiding in an underground bunker somewhere in Central Fl are monitoring:

- this DIS board? :worship:
- my posts? :badpc:
- maybe even my PM's and emails? :cool2: (oh THAT for sure will put them to sleep) :rotfl2:
- possibly even those of my parents and known associates? :surfweb: (well I admit Donnie's life is a LITTLE more exciting than mine...)

Maybe since I know they're reading this I'll throw them a curveball... :smooth:

"Mickey snort the banana" :banana::banana::banana:

I'm sure the popo will be knocking on my front door in minutes. :hyper:

It's been nice working with ya'll on this board. :cool1: <odd sounds in the background>

They'll never take me alive! :disrocks:

<muffled beatings of a scuffle then takedown>

<silence>

Sizing up the layout of the prison for a planned breakout of BamaEd...

(Mission: Impossible music begins playing...)

Then we're gonna plan out our strategy for taking back that hill...
