unlimited drinking mugs

...just got back from the 4 night Wonder.

Soda Mug Program... they put a sticker on your KTTW card. I believe it costs $ 5 extra for the mug if you want it. If and when you use the mug, you are also required to show your KTTW card with the sticker. This is to prevent "sharing".

We had the AAA mugs. With the AAA program - you only get the mug - they would not put a sticker on our KTTW cards. We had to drag the mugs with us everywhere.

The lack of a sticker caused some confusion with a few of the new CMs. Once the new CMs noticed that we had AAA mugs (they are bright yellow, different than the DCL mugs) it was never a problem again. With the AAA program, since every member of the family gets a mug automatically, they must figure that there will be no "sharing" so you don't have to prove ownership of the mug.

Ok, forgive me - so exactly how does this work? A sticker on your KTTW card means that you paid for a mug or what? And, what's the scoop - $5 extra for a mug or they give it to you in paper cups?

Sorry . . . .
Brenda

When we were on our 7 day cruise, we purchased the mug. You automatically got a sticker with the mug. The mug was $5 extra, thought it would be a nice sovenier. If you wanted a soda, you showed your card with the sticker and they gave you a soda. With the mug, it was a bit odd. When you brought up your mug, they didn't ask to see your card with sticker, but they wouldn't fill the mug for you, they gave you your soda in a cup, then you dumped it in your mug. I actually think this had to do with all the illnesses on board. If they took everyone's mug and touched it up against the soda dispenser, way too many germs would be spread. So, the next time I go, I will not purchase the mug, I would just pay for the sticker.

So, your options are: purchase the sticker or purchase the sticker and pay extra for a mug and make sure you carry your mug if you want to drink out of your mug and not a regular cup.

A sticker on your KTTW card means that you paid for the unlimited soda program - price vaires with the length of your particular cruise. A sticker without a mug means you get your soda in a plastic disposable cup.

In mid March they would refill the mugs directly. Sometimes they would empty out the remaining ice and refill the mug with ice and soda, other times they would just refill the soda if enough ice was left. A "hose" type dispenser was used. There was no contact with the mug.

However, if you left the lid on the mug, the CM would take it off and drop it on the "dirty" counter before refilling your mug. The bar counters didn't really look dirty, but you know what I mean.
It would be your responsibility to put it back on (but not until I wiped in on my sterile [yeah] shirt first).

On the 4 night cruise - "extra precautions" by the CMs (gloves, cups, etc) as mentioned on previous posts from pre-March cruises were not evident. As an emergency health care provider with over 25 years of service I noticed that, on this particular cruise, prevention of disease transmission did not seem to be a priority concern, nor did I see any "sick" persons wandering around...

...except for my wife who got seasick the first night.

So did they reduce the cost by $5 if you don't want the mug? Or are they adding $5 for the mug?

When we went on our cruise in Dec. '02, we purchased the unlimited soda program. A coca-cola sticker was put on the KTTW card and we just showed it to the bartender....soda was put in a plastic cup. We weren't given a choice re: a mug...this was during all the sicknesses happening w/in the cruise industry.
One note: we "cheated" a little ...we only purchased one sticker ($20 for the 4 day cruise). We did not have a problem giving the kids the card to get a soda & sometimes they would get one, then we would go up and get one too. The bartenders only wanted to see the sticker..didn't seem like they cared about the name or room #.

hope this helps ya,
Nina

We're supposed to get the AAA mug and I wish they would just put stickers on the card. Seems like such a hassle to have to carry around your mug all the time....just another thing to remember to grab when your walking out your door!!

Thanks for all the info - it's so nice to know these things before going. :)

I do have a couple questions.

How much are the stickers on a 7-night cruise? And, how much are sodas if you don't have a sticker or mug?

I'm trying to figure out how many sodas I'd have to drink in order to make the sticker worth it. :) I'm not usually a big soda drinker, I'll take water or tea over soda any day, but my hubby lives on soda, he'd probably go into convulsions without a soda a day at least. :) LOL

Thanks for the info.

Just remember that soda is complimentary at all sit down meals in the dining rooms (breakfast, lunch, dinner). There is also a beverage station up on deck 9 that has lemonade, ice tea, milk, hot choc., coffee, tea that is also complimentary. In Topsiders during lunch fruit punch is also available. So, unless he needs a soda fix by the pool, save that soda mug money for something else, maybe a drink with some more "kick" to it!!!

The mug program before the sticker program went into effect again was $35 for the 7 day cruise.
