Universe of Energy, one last time...

I'm sad. I wanted a complete rehaul of this attraction...instead I get a rumored closing??? :(:sad::sad:

My daughter had never seen it and I never saw it after it became ellen so we did it about 2 months ago....

The best part is the dinosaurs and that's only because it was mentioend on connecting with walt they are the original worlds fair dinosaurs. Nothing else was good...

Theres no reason to revisit it...

Since I joined this forum, I've been quick to defend critics of a lot of rides, because I love pretty much everything about WDW. However, this is one ride where I kind of have to agree. I don't hate it, and as I said before, it's nostalgic to me. It made for a great date night ride when we were there recently. We had been walking all day and had a little time to kill. It was a nice break from the heat and it's nice to just sit next to my wife and hold hands for a while. But beyond that, I do think the ride has run its' course. It's time to either replace it completely or if they want to keep Universe of Energy as the theme, give it a complete and utter overhaul.

That's kind of the point of this thread, rumors has it that ride will be replaced with something new and should they go for 1 more spin on it.

Intellectual property. In Disney's case, usually a movie.

Intellectual Property - in this case, the Marvel rights (for characters not already used in Universal parks east of the Mississippi or some such contractual contortions. . . )

ETA: oops! simultaneous posting :)

Thanks. I deal with IP everyday, but didn't put two and two together here. I get it now, but it's kind of a weird way of using the term, IMO. I guess it does help differentiate the theming of the ride versus something more generic like the old Maelstrom ride, but it seems there would be a better term to use than IP.

This ride is very dear to me! My favorite thing about it is actually the film itself - I love Ellen, Bill Nye, Alex Trebeck and Jamie Lee Curtis - so funny! And the huge theater screens make it amazing.

If you want more info on Epcot plans read my July rumor round up article in my signature.

Great read, thanks!!! I especially love this: "Next up is the moving of the Leave a Legacy stones in front of Spaceship Earth. The stones which many Disney fans call an eye sore are set to be moved for a new entrance look at Epcot."

That would be fantastic!!!!!!! The very first time I set foot at Epcot was 2010, and one of the very first impressions I had was "What are these ugly monolithic type structures "tombstones? :)" smack in the front of Epcot?" Really , really takes away from the entrance to Epcot IMO. This change would be GREAT if it happens.

I think that EPCOT will become IPCOT. And while a lot of people may groan, that may not be a completely bad thing. If done thoughtfully, it could be a good way to continually update the attractions and keep them at least current if not "future." Test Track would be a good Cars attraction (isn't it Cars in DL anyway?), Energy would do well with a Tron themed overhaul, Living With The Land could get a Wall-E tie-in... there's a lot that could be done without destroying the essence of Epcot. Keep FutureWorld about the seas, the land, energy, motion, imagination... but spruce it up a bit. The one that I would completely leave alone though is Spaceship: Earth. Update maybe, but not do an IP tie-in.

That said, I won't get a chance to reride because we're not going until January and we haven't been in 18 years, so I guess that was my last ride. Was it even Ellen then? Gosh, I don't remember - it was 1998. I think I took a nap in the A/C on it to be honest.

Bummer. We have really enjoyed Universe of Energy. We don't plan on going back until next June, so we probably won't be able to ride it again. I'm not really sure how Guardians fits into Future World. Will this still be an Energy attraction?

Sigh.
Very depressing to me. And I understand with technology advancing every 3 - 6 months it's impossible anymore to keep Future World up to date. It irks me that educational-entertainment is being washed away by the need to pump the latest movie. I figured that was what MK and DHS were for. Just nostalgia I guess. EPCOT remains my fave park, but I don't know for how much longer.

No it will not be an energy attraction from what I understand.

It'd be easy to incorporate the purple power thingy (it's been awhile since I've watched the GotG movie... I think you know what I'm talking about).

I've never been a fan so there's no desire to do it "one last time". I have no idea what Guardians of the Galaxy is (I know it's some kind of super hero crap) but ANYTHING'S gotta be better than Ellen's Energy Adventure.

before the holidays seems like a dumb time to close it given that it has so much capacity and is a nice, long sitting ride for people to take a break in even when the park is packed. I am going first week of december and hoping it is still open... I know I am in the minority (my ex husband and I used to argue about it all the time, though that is not why we divorced lol) but I like it and would love another chance to ride it before it is gone forever.

We've only gone on it once in all of our trips and we only went on it so DD1 could nap. We have two Epcot days this fall so if it's still open, I guess we'll make an effort to see it.

I rode it last trip, and it was literally just me, DS, and 4 other people. In that huge moving theatre thing, I mean 6 people in all 6 moving car things. Which is a waste. Personally, I love the pre-show with the Jeopardy scenes. Stupid Judy! lol. I think it is educational still, and has value, and it is nice and cool in there!

My husband and I rode this the month after Epcot opened. We were AMAZED, just stunned how the theatre splits out and moves. But, that was over 30 years ago. Time to move on.
