Universal's new ticket structure!

It puzzles me that so many people believe that Universal should charge way less than most carnivals. It's still considerably less expensive than WDW and it's just logical that they would charge more to help defray the costs of adding HP.

I think most people have just gotten used to the cheap prices and now take them for granted. I have to agree with Damo that given the volume Disney gets, it should be considerably less expensive than it currently is.

I would have loved for the ticket prices to remain unchanged, but I don't think that is a realistic expectation.

I just bought the 99 tickets from DU. I am printing them now. Well I guess we will have to see what October brings for us because our original plan was to buy the season pass for 149.00, that is no longer avalibile except to Fl residents. This just saved me 250.00. Thank you DIS boards

Glad we got the $99 tickets when we did!

I think the shock is that it is such a huge jump; almost double. If I go back to Orlando after this next trip, I would probably still go to Universal but it would depend on the ticket combinations as there are some UK tickets which include Sea World/Aqautica/Wet 'n' Wild too which may work out better value.

ALL 4 parks in one day? I can't imagine trying to do all the parks in Disney in one day. We went for the first time this past Sept and the crowds were very low. There is no way we could have done all 4 parks in one day and had any time to do much of anything in those parks. Your family must be able to move quickly. How did you ride anything or catch any parades?

The key statement for you is first time, of course you couldn't do them all. Add another 99 or so times and you'd find it to be not only easy but the only way to go. We would not only go to all 4 parks we would have time to go back to the hotel during the afternoon for a swim, lunch and a nap.

I'm leery of buying anything under the old deal it seems they are posting expiration dates on Florida resident tickets saying they will all expire in March on the Universal website. anyone know about this ?

I think Universal's tickets are still a good deal - especially for the 2, 3, and 4 day tickets. Disney does not give you any noticeable discount on its muti-days tickets until the 4 day tickets and above. Some of Disney's higher prices are justified based upon the nighttime shows and the parades they provide on almost a daily basis (some cutbacks during certain times on Fantasmic and Spectro). At this point in my life, I prefer Universal over Disney - but if I am on a trip 5 days or longer, I would probably pick Disney over Universal because there is more to keep you occupied at Disney. As months pass and $ 99 ticket fades from our memory, I think most people will realize the new pricing scheme is still a pretty good deal (it may help if the $ 99 add at the top of this page is removed).

I was driving past a AAA office and went in a bought their last two tickets. I am now good thru 2012!!! We go once a year and we saved a ton of $ thanks to this thread! Thanks again!!!

But it's better for Universal and come on.. the $99 7-day ticket deal couldn't last forever. That's why it's a deal. Now that Rockit is at USF and HP is coming to IOA, it makes sense.

At least you see the investment in the parks unlike Disney's ticket prices over the years where you wonder.. what more am I paying for exactly? These celebration signs?

Is it possible to buy tickets that don't expire? It used to be cheaper for me to purchase a longer ticket which didn't expire but could be used from year to year. I know Disney now charges an outrageous amount for this option, but I didn’t even see a non-expiration option listed on the Universal website.

I see that now. It looks as if they expect to open HP shortly after March 19th, so they won't extend the discount for those specific tickets.

That said, those tickets have a defined expiration date up front and have just become available for purchase. The others have no expiration date, and they can't arbitrarily add one on after the fact. The $99 tickets that are still available aren't going to expire until 7 days after first use, you can safely purchase them while supplies last.

Those of you who found them at Kroger, were they with all the other gift cards or somewhere else?

So anyway I now am trying to get rid of them without a big loss. Kinda stinks. So off to Ebay and praying to sell em there to someone whos going before March

The Kroger I went to has an entire section of gift cards at the end of an aisle so that they are actually in two aisles on each side. I found them right at the bottom.

I'd check the print on your tickets. You never know who you're talking to on the phone and TMs and CMs are probably the single most unreliable sources of information from Universal and Disney, respectively. If your tickets didn't state a specific expiration date upon purchase, I would bet good money that they do not expire. I've never once seen any theme park retroactively put expiration dates on any tickets. Ever.
