Universal Tickets/ Power Pass purchasing questions

I "Think" I have the answer but I just want to ask around and make 100% sure that I have this right. I'd like to save some money where I can but I am nervous about trying to do something to save a buck and end up being out a lot of bucks.

So we want Power Passes. Assuming that they will not add any black out dates to our trip (last week of September), they will be the best deal for us and we may just go ahead and come back next year in Mid September to make it an even better deal. WHo knows, maybe the APH rate will even save more if it comes out. (right now it is available for the first 4 of our 5 nights) Currently the power pass for non Florida residents is $260.

My understanding is that instead of ordering those I can buy the 2-Day Universal Park to Park Ticket - plus extra day free from Undercover Tourist. Then after going to the park the first day, I would go to guest services and ask to upgrade those tickets to the Power Pass. I would get the gate price of the current 3 day ticket toward my pass and would pay the difference, which would be around $10 each.

By my math, we would end up saving about $33 per ticket, and then once spending the $10 or so to upgrade we would still be ahead $22 or so savings (I'm not counting taxes here). That $22 a piece adds up quite a bit when buying 5 tickets.

Does this always work? Is there any risk over just ordering the Annual Passes from Universal? How long does it take at guest services? Is it a quick process or will I spend an hour in there? I would love to save the $100 but if there is any risk that I wont be able to do it this way or would end up not being able to upgrade them, Id rather spend a little more than regret it later.

Hoping for some feedback either way.

This has always worked in the past. I would go to Guest Services inside the park immediately in the morning. Line should be nice and short then.

This is my plan in about 3 weeks! I'm hoping it works out like that!
