My family and i are taking our first trip to Orlando in April and will be doing one day at Universal. I just realized that the day we are planning to go to Universal the park closes at 6. Are tickets less expensive on the days the park closes earlier? trying to figure out if we should rearrange our schedule.
Also, any thoughts on which Harry Potter experience is better (if you have to choose one)...Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley? Thanks!!

No...price is the same regardless of hours.

I'm torn on the HP world thing. For theming, I think the Diagon Alley side is better. But, while Escape from Gringotts is an outstanding ride, I think Forbidden Journey is the best ride in all of Orlando.

If you have to choose just one park, I would choose Islands of Adventure.
Note that some rides have a height requirement of 48".

Some of the better rides at Islands of Adventure:
  • The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man
  • Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
  • Skull Island: Reign of Kong
  • The Incredible Hulk Coaster
  • Jurassic Park River Adventure
  • Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges
  • Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls
  • Dragon Challenge

If you are prone to motion sickness, I would suggest Gringotts over Forbidden Journey.

I'd choose Diagon Alley. It's way bigger than Hogsmeade. More shops, more to do plus the dragon and Knockturn Alley. But, if you can only visit once and for one day, really consider the park to park splurge.
